Khabib Nurmagomedov turned down 40 million to make stunning UFC comeback I am done

Former undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomdov reportedly rejected a stunning $40,000,000 payday to snap his 2020 retirement from the sport just two years ago according to his former training partner, fellow Hall of Fame inductee, Danel Cormier.

Nurmagomedov, a former undisputed lightweight champion and prior pound-for-pound number one ranked fighter under the promotion’s banner, called time on his illustrious fighting career back in 2020, following a submission win over then-interim titleholder, Justin Gaethje, successfully unifying the divisional crowns.

Citing the passing of his late father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov and a promise he made to his mother that he would not fight again, Russian sambo ace, Khabib Nurmagomeov ended his tenure boasting a stunning 29-0 professional record.

However, linked with a multitude of fights to bring him back to the Octagon, including a rematch with former two-division champion, Conor McGregor, a long-mooted super fight with former two-weight champion, Georges St-Pierre, Khabib Nurmagomedov elected against entertaining a comeback.

And according to former light heavyweight and heavyweight kingpin, Cormier, a sum in the region of $40,000,000 was floated to Nurmagomedov to secure another outing in the Octagon – which he ultimately turned down.

“Khabib Nurmagomedov turned down $40,000,000 [to fight again],” Daniel Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “That dude said $40,000,000 to come back. I don’t know what would prompt him to come back if he’s throwing this much money away. Despite occasional thoughts of a comeback crossing Khabib’s mind, his unwavering commitment to a promise he made to his mother prevails.”

“To fight in the UFC, I don’t know how many fights he was meaning, I don’t know what he meant,” Cormier explained. “But he just said, ‘I turned away $40,000,000, brother. I am done.’”

Khabib Nurmagomedov rules himself out of stunning comeback at UFC 300 it will be without me

Definitely shutting down links to a spectacular return to the Octagon at a monumental UFC 300 event in April, former undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov claims the upcoming pay-per-view event will take place without him – as will UFC 400.

Nurmagomedov, a former undisputed lightweight titleholder and inductee into the promotion’s Hall of Fame, has been sidelined from the Octagon since 202, retiring in the immediate aftermath of his stunning submission win over Justin Gaethje in the pair’s title unification bout in the Middle East.

Yet to make a long-anticipated return to the Octagon in his retirement, Nurmagomedov has been continually linked with a comeback to active competition, particularly in the form of a rematch against former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor.

And ahead of UFC 300 in April, speculation has once more mounted regarding a stunning return to the Octagon for Dagestan native, Nurmagomedov, who has notably been linked with a welterweight championship super fight against undisputed champion, Leon Edwards.

“Coach Javier Mendez, owner and leader of the American Kickboxing Academy, came out in an interview and said that Khabib (Nurmagomedov) is back training with me,” Chael Sonnen said. “He said, ‘Khabib always goes to practice, but he only trains with me when he’s getting ready for a fight.’ And that is all I know.”

“There is a reason that Leon (Edwards) versus Belal (Muhammad) did not get made,” Sonnen claimed. “It was expected and it was planned. Something became available. This is nothing more than a rumor, but it’s a rumor that came from coach Mendez, who’s training him (Khabib Nurmagomedov), who says, ‘I don’t train him unless it’s for a fight.’ It’s fascinating.”

However, Nurmagomedov’s former head coach, Javier Mendez has poured considerable cold water on a return for his student, who has himself since quashed rumors amid encouraging from closer friend and former professional football star, Zlatan Ibrahimovic

“UFC 300 will be without me,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said on his official Instagram Stories. “As will UFC 400.

Former undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov has been continually linked with an earth-shattering return to mixed martial arts this year at UFC 300 – as soon as April. And despite confirmation from his coach, Javier Mendez how his past student is not lining up a return fight, the Russian’s close friend, former professional footballer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has added fuel to the fire on a massive comeback.

Nurmagomedov, a former undisputed lightweight champion and prior pound-for-pound number one ranked fighter under the banner of the promotion, called time on his professional career back in 2020, boasting an unbeaten 29-0 professional record.

Bowing out after a massive title unification win over then-interim champion, Justin Gaethje, Nurmagomedov has since been linked with multiple comebacks to the sport – with UFC boss, Dana White pursuing a blockbuster fight between the Dagestan favorite and his arch-rival, former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor in a rematch most notably.

And speculation began to persist over the course of last weekend regarding a stunning retirement-snapping return for Nurmagomedov, with Chael Sonnen linking the American Kickboxing Academy mainstay to a UFC 300 return and welterweight title siege against Leon Edwards.

“Coach Javier Mendez, owner and leader of the American Kickboxing Academy, came out in an interview and said that Khabib (Nurmagomedov) is back training with me,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic adds fuel to Khabib Nurmagomedov return rumors

And despite confirmation from the above-mentioned, Mendez that Nurmagomedov is not lining up a fighting comeback, the latter’s friend, former AC MIlan striker, Ibrahimovic posed for pictures with the ex-UFC star at the San Siro in Milan over the weekend – posting a picture simply captioned, “UFC 300”.

Legendary MMA coach Javier Mendez claims there is no truth to the rumors that Khabib Nurmagomedov is returning to the Octagon to headline UFC 300.

MMA Twitter has been abuzz ever since former three-time title challenger Chael Sonnen suggested that the UFC is angling to book Nurmagomedov’s long-awaited comeback for the massive milestone event. The American Gangster’ even suggested that the former lightweight champ would return to challenge current welterweight titleholder Leon Edwards.

With the promotion yet to announce Belal Muhammad as the next man in line for a shot at Edwards’ crown, fight fans and media outlets were quick to run with Sonnen’s report, no matter how crazy it sounded.

Less than 24 hours later, the American Kickboxing Academy founder attempted to dispell the rumors in an exclusive comment made to combat sports journalist Helen Yee.

“Stop all this nonsense regarding Khabib coming back and me and him training,” Mendez said in the video clip. “There’s been no such thing happening. We’re not discussing training. We never have. Khabib is still devoted to what he said. He’s devoting time to his family. He’s not working people’s corners. He’s not ever going to fight.

“To my knowledge, it’s never been spoken about and to my knowledge, he’s been [in Dubai] the last few days. He just left yesterday and nothing has ever been discussed about fighting. No training, no nothing. We train together actually, but we’re doing cardio. We’re not doing any kind of kickboxing or MMA training whatsoever. So stop the clickbait. Got it?”

It certainly wouldn’t be the first time a fighter or their coach has attempted to squash a rumor that hit a little too close to home.

Is there any chance we see ‘The Eagle’ back inside the Octagon on April 13, or is Uncle Chael just telling us another fib?

Former undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov has been linked today with a stunning return to the UFC – in a massive welterweight title siege against undisputed gold holder, Leon Edwards atop UFC 300 in April.

Nurmagomedov, a former undisputed lightweight champion and pound-for-pound one ranked fighter under the Dana White-led promotional banner, called time on his career back in late 2020, following a successful title unification win over then-interim gold holder, Justin Gaethje.

Officially vacating his lightweight crown at the beginning of the following year, Nurmagomedov has been linked with a return to the Octagon in the time since, however, has yet to make good on a return to competition in search of a perfect professional 30-0 record.

However, according to former light heavyweight and middleweight title chaser, Chael Sonnen, rumors are circulating that Nurmagomedov is gearing up for a stunning return to the Octagon in a welterweight title charge against Birmingham native, Edwards.

“Coach Javier Mendez, owner and leader of the American Kickboxing Academy, came out in an interview and said that Khabib (Nurmagomedov) is back training with me,” Chael Sonnen said on his YouTube channel. “He said, ‘Khabib always goes to practice, but he only trains with me when he’s getting ready for a fight.’ And that is all I know.”

Expected to make his return at UFC 300 in April himself, undisputed welterweight champion, Edwards recorded his second successful defense of the crown back in December with a unanimous decision shutout win over former interim gold holder, Colby Covington.

Belal Muhammad compared to Khabib Nurmagomedov dominance ahead of UFC 300 he's the closest to him

Expected to make his return to the Octagon at UFC 300 in April in a championship rematch with undisputed gold holder, Leon Edwards, surging welterweight contender, Belal Muhammad has been compared to Khabib Nurmagomedov – in terms of the pair’s wrestling styles, in particular.

Muhammad, the current number two ranked welterweight contender, has been teased as a potential opponent for former-foe, Edwards at UFC 300 in April – in the form of a championship rematch between the two, following an initial clash two years prior.

Earning his championship tilt back in May at UFC 288, Illinois native, Muhammad landed a dominant shutout decision win over former title chaser, Gilbert Burns over the course of five rounds, extending his unbeaten run to 10 consecutive fights.

And ahead of his first-ever championship excursion later this opening quarter, Muhammad, who is set to train with lightweight kingpin, Islam Makhachev ahead of UFC 300, has drawn comparisons to the Russian’s coach and former lightweight titlleholder, Nurmagomedov, by former champion, Henry Cejudo.

“It’s going to be a great, competitive fight,” Henry Cejudo said on his YouTube channel. “Stylistically, the way that Belal Muhammad – what he did to Gilbert Burns and how he did it to him, he’s only gotten better. I will say this: The closest person to a guy like Khabib Nurmagomedov, his name is actually Belal Muhammad.”

“They do the same kind of cross steps,” Cejudo explained. “They kind of run and shoot. They do the same kind of feints with that lead hand to eventually level change for the takedown.”

And whilst Muhammad is widely expected to fight Edwards at UFC 300 later this year, speculation has been rife earlier this week regarding a potential drafting into the fold of former two-time title chaser, Jorge Masvidal – who confirmed he is “unretired” from combat sports at the beginning of this month, having called time on his tenure just 8 months ago.
