Khabib Nurmagomedov working with UFC for release of documentary on his career

UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov revealed that he is working with the UFC to film a documentary.

Nurmagomedov is one of the most celebrated athletes in the history of mixed martial arts, amassing an incredible 29-0 record whilst capturing the UFC lightweight world championship. After three successful defenses against a murderer’s row of lightweight talent, including Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje, ‘The Eagle’ walked away from the sport following the tragic loss of his father and coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

Following his exit from competing, Khabib Nurmagomedov turned his attention toward coaching, developing the next generation of Dagestani standouts. He famously guided his successor, Islam Makhachev, to the UFC lightweight championship last year and helped his cousin, Usman Nurmagomedov, capture the 155-pound title in Bellator. Another cousin, Umar Nurmagomedov, is currently undefeated in his MMA career with 16 straight wins, four of those coming under the UFC banner.

Khabib Nurmagomedov Documentary to Be Released in 2024

Khabib Nurmagomedov has since stepped away from coaching for the time being, but ‘The Eagle’ is staying busy these days. During a recent video chat with UFC President Dana White, the former lightweight champ revealed that he was working on a new documentary with the UFC.

“I’ve been working on this the last five days. It’s been very busy. Even now there’s people waiting for me,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said “I think this year is going to be very busy and next year, around summer, it’s going to be one of the best documentaries.”

With the immense success of Conor McGregor‘s Netflix documentary, McGregor Forever, it’s no surprise that the promotion would look to put out another film focusing on one of its most influential figures.

No official details have been revealed regarding the documentary, but based on Nurmagomedov’s comments, a release in mid-2024 appears to be the goal.

BJJ ace Craig Jones claims that Khabib Nurmagomedov priced himself out of a potential grappling match against Georges St-Pierre.

In attempt to lure Nurmagomedov back to the sport following his shock retirement, UFC president Dana White attempted to put together a lucrative fight with St-Pierre. The idea has since been bounced around and even proposed to take place as a grappling match rather than an MMA fight.

However, Nurmagomedov stuck to his word and has not accepted any offer – in fact, it seems that the 34-year-old is happy in retirement is is unlikely to compete again.

Craig Jones talks Khabib Nurmagomedov grappling offer

In a new twist, grappling star Jones revealed that Nurmagomedov appeared to price himself out of a potential grappling match against St-Pierre. Talking on his gym’s YouTube channel, B-Team Jiu Jitsu, the 32 year-old claimed that ‘The Eagle’ asked for a fee of five million dollars.

“I was with the [UFC] Fight Pass guys and they were trying to ask me for opponents for ‘GSP,’ for ideas, and I had no idea who would be [suitable]” Jones said on a podcast with Gunnar Nelson. “They asked me at the moment and I didn’t know. I remember I said Khabib and I think they said Khabib wanted $5 million to do the grappling match. I was like, ‘Woah!’ Obviously that’s priced himself out there. Those guys would be cool to see. I’d love to train with those guys and feel what it’s like, you know?” (H/T MMA Mania)

A fight between Nurmagomedov and St-Pierre would have been massive, probably one of the biggest fights in UFC history. Unfortunately, it will just have to join the long line of mythical fights that have slipped away

Khabib Nurmagomedov claims Justin Gaethje hardest hitter in UFC he hits like a truck

Former undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov has claimed former interim division titleholder, Justin Gaethje is the most dangerous and hardest hitting opponent he shared the Octagon with during his tenure with the UFC – detailing the ferocious power the Arizona native possesses.

Nurmagomedov, a former undisputed lightweight champion under the banner of the UFC, retired from combat sports back in 2020, citing the passing of his late father and head coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov as the reasoning behind his decision to hang up his gloves.

The announcement came immediately following Nurmagomedov’s title unification win over the above-mentioned, Gaethje, submitting the then-interim lightweight champion with a stunning second round triangle choke for a technical submission win on ‘Fight Island’.

And reflecting on his career and the opponents he has faced, Nurmagomedov, who also successfully defended his title against fellow punchers, Conor McGregor, and Dustin Poirier, revealed that Dominance MMA stablemate, Gaethje holds the most worrying power.

“I think it was Justin Gaethje,” Khabib Nurmagomedov told Patrick Bet-David during a recent interview. “He hits like [a] truck, but it was one thing what breaks like it was right uppercut and left hook, it was his best shot in the fight and I told him, ‘Brother, this is everything you have?’”

“I was talking with him, it was [a] conversation inside the cage,” Khabib Nurmagomedov explained. “I like Justin Gaethje, and I was talking with him after this combination, and [at the] end of the first round, he started to like tire, and I told him, ‘This is jetlag because you come to Abu Dhabi one week before the fight, I’m here one month.’ I know where I was after one week because this is like [a] desert. You have to be there at least a couple of weeks before the fight. I know myself, one week when I come [to Abu Dhabi], I cannot sleep.”

Most recently headlining UFC 291 back in July, Gaethje avenged a TKO loss to common-foe, Poirier, finishing the Lafayette native with a stunning second round high-kick KO to land the symbolic BMF championship.

UFC Hall of Fame inductee Khabib Nurmagomedov insists there are only two genders: ‘I only see woman and man’

UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov believes there are only two genders.

In recent years, the LGBTQ community has expanded the number of genders that one can identify as, leaving the door open for individuals from all walks of life to become the person they feel like rather than the one their parents assigned to them at birth. Of course, that’s a fairly strange concept for much of the world outside of America to comprehend. Especially those who grew up in or embrace religions largely known for marginalizing individuals who do not adhere to gender norms or engage in less “traditional” relationships.

During a recent Q&A on the PBD Podcast with Patrick Bet-David, Khabib Nurmagomedov was asked about his thoughts on the LGBTQ community, specifically the growing number of genders that seems to be a continuous source for debate.

Unsurprisingly, Nurmagomedov suggested that there are only two genders; man and woman.

“I only see woman and man. There is no between. This is like… It’s crazy,” Nurmagomedov answered. “It’s like, the first time in my life a couple of weeks ago, I was in California. I was in a coffee shop and I was like, ‘I really want to go to the bathroom. Can I go to the bathroom?’ They told me I could and I’m like, two bathrooms. All gender, all gender. It’s like, ‘What is this? Where do I have to go?’

“I stopped there for five seconds like, ‘Where is woman? Where is man?’ I knocked on the door. ‘Anybody inside?’”

Khabib Nurmagomedov Makes His Stance on the Subject Clear

Nurmagomedov’s confusion over the gender-neutral bathrooms earned a laugh from the live crowd, but he made it abundantly clear where he stands on the issue of gender in America.

“I don’t know, brother,” Nurmagomedov continued. “I grew up in a very traditional place with a very traditional family. I am very happy with this. I am from big mountains and we have only two genders.”

As a Muslim, Nurmagomedov’s confusion and downright disdain for non-normative gender roles and relationships is understandable. It’s how he was raised. It’s how he grew up and in many Muslim nations, gay sex is still criminalized, including Qatar where the 2022 FIFA World Cup was held, much to the chagrin of football fans around the world.

In Nurmagomedov’s native Russian, LGBTQ community members are not dubbed as criminals per se, but laws prohibiting LGBTQ propaganda have largely taken away the communities voice for fear of being heavily fined, prosecuted, or worse. Some lawmakers in the country have even sought to pass legislation disallowing same-sex partners from having children and stripping them of the legal custody of children they may already be caring for at the first sign of “homosexual behavior.”

No matter which side of the fence you fall on, Nurmagomedov’s take is far from shocking as the fighter has made similar comments in the past.

Khabib Nurmagomedov addresses potential UFC return people want to see this

It’s been over three years since former undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov last stepped foot inside the Octagon, and in the time since fans have continually clamoured for the Russian to make a return – something he has admitted he is very much aware of.

Nurmagomedov, a former undisputed lightweight champion under the banner of the UFC, retired from mixed martial arts competition following a 2020 triangle choke submission win over former interim champion, Justin Gaethje, successfully unifying the divisional titles.

And announcing his retirement from combat sports competition with immediate aftermath of his submission triumph, Nurmagomedov, after moving to 29-0 as a professional, revealed he had promised his mother that he would call time on his career, following the sad passing of his father and head coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

Despite multiple calls from fans, and even UFC president, Dana White, as well as other organizational brass, Nurmagomedov, who has since turned his hand to coaching and training, has shut down ideas of a return to combat sports.

Khabib Nurmagomedov talks a potential return to MMA competition

And this month, the Dagestani grappling ace once more broached the idea of a stunning return to mixed martial arts competition – in a similar vein to NBA superstar, Michael Jordan’s final tenure with the Chicago Bulls, Nurmagomedov explained his situation, admitting that at present, he is “full”, and retains no desire to return.

“First of all, I am not MJ (Michael Jordan),” Khabib Nurmagomedov told David Patrick-Bet during a recent sit-down interview. “And of course, I watch the documentary [‘The Last Dance’], it’s the best ever I’ve watched.”

“I don’t think so,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said of a potential MMA return. “Because – I don’t know – a lot of things come to my mind. First of all, because of my mother. I don’t think so. About a comeback, I am not sure – it doesn’t make sense to me. People want to see this. People want drama, people want the movie to keep continuing. Right now, I am full.”

Landing vacant lightweight gold back in 2018 with a decision win over Al Iaquinta, Nurmagomedov would then defend the title and unify the crowns in subsequent wins over arch-rival, Conor McGregor, as well as Dustin Poirier, and Gaethje.

Nate Diaz offered up his honest opinion on retired UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov just days before his highly anticipated squared circle debut on Saturday night.

On August 5, the Stockton Samurai will strap on a pair of eight-ounce gloves for a clash with social media and combat sports sensation Jake Paul inside Dallas’ American Airlines Center. The bout comes nearly a year after Diaz’s final appearance inside the Octagon at UFC 279 where he scored a fourth-round submission victory over former interim lightweight world champion Tony Ferguson.

Next, Nate Diaz will attempt to secure a win in his professional boxing debut. But first, the TUF alumnus sat down for an interview with Full Send to talk about all things UFC, including his dislike for former UFC titleholder Khabib Nurmagomedov and fighters alike.

“F*ck him. Khabib’s the worst. Because he’s like… Look at him. He ran off,” Diaz responded when asked what his beef is with Nurmagomedov. “He’s a jock. It’s not my style of fighting. I don’t like it. The style of fighter in general, he’s not a real fighter. Him, [Daniel Cormier]. Certain guys are just like… I’m not interested in that kind of fighting at all. Not wrestling, because I love wrestling. It’s the jockey attitude. I’m a real fighter and I like real fighters. People who fight for real and take it.”

While Nate Diaz never shared the Octagon with ‘The Eagle,’ he had the honor of throwing hands with Nurmagomedovo’s highest-profile opponent, Conor McGregor.

Diaz and McGregor mixed it up twice in 2016 with the Stockton native handing the Irishman his first career loss in the UFC via a second-round rear-naked choke. McGregor evened the odds five months later, scoring a majority decision. Since then, fans have been clamoring for the long-awaited trilogy bout. Asked if he sees a third fight with McGregor materializing before they both walk away from the sport, Diaz answered in the affirmative.

“100%. Yeah, I’m ready to see him get back and do something cool too,” Diaz said.

Nate Diaz Reveals His Relationship with Dana White

Of course, for that fight to happen, Nate Diaz will likely have to re-sign with the UFC. That’s exactly what the Stockton scrapper hopes to do once he takes care of some business with Jake Paul this weekend.

After his split with the promotion was anything, but amicable, some have questioned whether or not Dana White would even welcome Nate Diaz back to the Octagon. Speaking on his relationship with the UFC President, Diaz revealed that the two are generally very cool with one another, but they have a tendency to lock horns when it comes to the business side of things.

“Me and Dana has always been real cool. From the business side, people got their complaints and sh*t like that, but it was never like me and him going, ‘F*ck you, f*ck you.’ But you know, he said sh*t that p*ssed me off. I said sh*t that p*ssed him off and I got fined all kinds of times for it,” Diaz continued. “But on the most part, if we hung out… We hung out a bunch of times. He took me gambling. He takes a bunch of guys gambling, drops a bunch of money. He’s always pretty cool and we’re just chillin’. So we actually got a good relationship.”
