Neil Magny is ready to rebook a fight with Khamzat Chimaev, and he wants it before the end of the year.

Magny was originally supposed to fight Chimaev after the Chechen was unable to face Leon Edwards in 2020, but the fight got scrapped when Chimaev had lingering issues with his spat of COVID-19. Both men parted ways after this, with Chimaev finally returning to action after a year away, demolishing Li Jingliang at UFC 267.

After this win, Magny spoke with MMAJunkie to explain that he is ready to have the fight with Chimaev rebooked, stating that while some in the top ten might avoid the matchup, he wants the UFC to put it together in December. On top of that, he says that he is happy for the delay in the fight, because now he understands how good Chimaev is, and will not be overlooking him.

“I was going about my day after the fight happened and I was getting messages with the same old routine saying, ‘No one wants to fight this guy.’ ‘I doubt on Monday when the new rankings come out that anyone in the top 10 will fight this guy.’ ‘He’s just a monster and everyone is going to do their best to avoid him,’” Magny said. “I’m sitting there reading these comments over and over again like, ‘What? No way. I wanted to fight this guy a year ago.’ Nothing has changed today. He did come back, he did look impressive against Jingliang, but for me it adds fuel to the fire. It makes me want to fight him more than I did last year.

Neil Magny, Khamzat Chimaev

“Maybe it was a good thing this fight got pushed off as long as it did. A year ago I would have 100 percent might’ve looked past him, like, ‘Ah whatever. Some new kid that thinks he’s hot stuff. School this kid and show him what’s up.’ Coming out here and beating Jingliang the way he did, it definitely made me take a step back like, ‘Oh damn. This kid’s legit.’ He definitely has some skills that he brings to the table. To me, that’s the kind of fight that makes it more exciting – the guys that make you have to stay on your A-game. When I saw what he did to Jingliang, that made me more excited to fight him.”

A fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Neil Magny would be an interesting one, but it seems more of a possibility that the UFC would look to push the Chechen prospect into a top contender fight given his apparent star power and skill. Perhaps this could be a matchup for later down the line.

Li Jingliang is down but not out.

Jingliang suffered a first-round submission defeat after getting dominated by Khamzat Chimaev in their welterweight contest at UFC 267 last night.

Chimaev quickly took Jingliang down and looked to finish the fight with ground strikes. Jingliang managed to survive only to see his back get taken.

“”Borz” applied the rear naked choke and despite getting out of it a couple of times, Jingliang’s luck didn’t last for long as Chimaev eventually put him to sleep.

It was a tough way to lose for the Chinese star who has now suffered his second defeat in his last three outings overall. However, he only plans on coming back stronger as he took to social media following the setback.

“Adult beauty. Feed the wolf, the sun will still rise tomorrow. I will train hard and come back. Thank you friends and fans for supporting me.”

It’s not the worst thing for Jingliang either given how high Chimaev’s stock is.

Jingliang’s own stock was pretty high after an emphatic knockout victory over Santiago Ponzinibbio eaerlier this year. Another win like that and he will be back on track once again.

Dana White Touts “Special” Khamzat Chimaev After Win At UFC 267

UFC President Dana White didn’t hold back when discussing Khamzat Chimaev’s flawless performance at UFC 267 against Li Jingliang.

UFC President Dana White didn’t hold back when discussing Khamzat Chimaev’s flawless performance at UFC 267 against Li Jingliang.

Chimaev, who was making his return to the UFC Octagon after nearly a year away due to a severe case of COVID-19, ragdolled Jingliang with his wrestling to earn the first-round finish. In addition to earning the submission, Chimaev also showed his confidence by attempting to have a full-on conversation with White while grappling with Jingliang.

Chimaev will more than likely enter the UFC welterweight rankings this week after his UFC 267 victory, and could get a top contender for his next Octagon appearance. During his UFC 267 post-fight press conference, White had a lot to say about the talented Russian fighter.

Dana White Certain Khamzat Chimaev Will Break Into The Top 10

“Last time we were here [in Abu Dhabi], we knew this guy was special,” White said. “It’s tough once you start to break into the top 10, which he will do on Tuesday. But yeah, listen, if he wants to stay busy, I’m a big believer in that anyway, especially with the huge layoff he’s had. We would figure it out if that’s really what he wanted to do.”

Chimaev called out top welterweight contenders such as Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz for his next fight. Masvidal is slated to face Leon Edwards at UFC 269, while Diaz is still awaiting a fight booking and appears at odds with the UFC brass.

Chimaev rose to prominence in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, earning three-straight finishes within just over two months. Before signing with the UFC, Chimaev made a name for himself in Brave CF, with an undefeated record with the promotion.

Chimaev is known to want to keep busy, and he didn’t suffer virtually any damage against Jingliang. We could see the UFC star return to the Octagon sooner rather than later.

Do you think Khamzat Chimaev is a future UFC champion?

Khamzat Chimaev

Khamzat Chimaev was busy planning his next fight before he had even dispatched of Li Jingliang, who was talked about as the toughest test of his career prior to UFC 267.

‘The Wolf’ looked sensational at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi as he dominated #11 ranked welterweight, Li, from the first bell before finding a submission win in just over three minutes.

During his time in the Octagon, Chimaev somehow managed to have a brief chat with Dana White, who relayed his conversation with the undefeated prospect to reporters at the UFC 267 post-fight press conference.

Khamzat Chimaev Says He’s Ready To Fight Brock Lesnar

“He was yelling crazy sh*t at me the whole fight,” White said. “I don’t know why but basically just saying, ‘I’m going to fight everybody. I’ll fight Brock Lesnar. I don’t care who it is.’ You know, he was just yelling stuff like that.”

The UFC president couldn’t be anything but impressed with Chimaev’s performance at UFC 267.

“100 percent,” White replied when asked if Chimaev had picked up from where he left off in 2020. “Last time we were here, we knew this guy was special. This COVID thing is one of the weirdest things any of us have ever seen. You get some people who fit the profile to be high risk, it doesn’t even feel like a bad cold to them. And then, a guy who’s in phenomenal shape like this guy gets hit as hard as he did by COVID. But, he’s back and there’s no doubt this kid is special.

Chimaev is adamant he wants to stay busy after returning from a year away from fighting and White wants to help his newest star do that but admits it can be tough when you are trying to book fights against someone else in the top 10.

“It’s tough once you start to break into the top 10, which he will do on Tuesday,” White said. “But yeah. If he wants to stay busy, I’m a big believer in that anyway. Especially with the huge layoff, he has had. I don’t know. We would figure it out if that is really what he wanted to do.”
