Khamzat Chimaev

Welterweight prospect Khamzat Chimaev has finally been granted his U.S. visa and could make his third UFC appearance as early as September 19 according to John Morgan of MMA Junkie, who wrote on social media.

“It took some time, but Khamzat Chimaev (@KChimaev) has obtained his U.S. visa and may compete again as soon as Sept. 19. When confirming news with @AliAbdelaziz00, he thanked @danawhite for getting visa secured. “Nothing is impossible to Dana White. He is the new James Bond.””

UFC president Dana White previously revealed he was struggling to get Chimaev into the country and was unable to schedule another fight for the Russian until that hurdle had been cleared.

“We’re working on it,” White said. “You know I want (him to fight). I want him here. I want him to come to America and fight. We’ll see what happens. … He wants to fight and people will fight him, but we’ve got to work on getting him in the (country). It ain’t easy getting people into the country right now.”

Chimaev scored back-to-back victories on ‘Fight Island’ in July. The 26-year-old made his UFC debut at middleweight against John Phillips. He dominated the first round before sinking in a submission early in round two. Ten days later and Chimaev was back action again – this time competing at welterweight. Once again he dominated the fight and managed to stop UFC newcomer Rhys McKee inside one round.

Post-fight White revealed he was hoping to book Chimaev’s third fight with the promotion for UFC 252. The undefeated prospect then began calling out the biggest and best fighters at welterweight including Demian Maia, Conor McGregor, Mike Perry, and even the 170lb champ, Kamaru Usman. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and fans have been forced to wait a little longer than anticipated to see Chimaev back in action.

Unfortunately, things haven’t worked out and it appears fans will have to wait just a little longer to see Chimaev back in action.

In an Instagram live session with Yahoo Sports on Wednesday, White was asked about Chimaev’s return. The UFC boss revealed he is currently struggling to get the welterweight prospect into the United States and therefore he hasn’t been booked to fight.

“We’re working on it,” White said. “You know I want (him to fight). I want him here. I want him to come to America and fight. We’ll see what happens. … He wants to fight and people will fight him, but we’ve got to work on getting him in the (country). Chimaev Cerrone

UFC welterweight Khamzat Chimaev wants the big names next and Donald Cerrone certainly counts as one.

After two dominant wins since debuting last month, Chimaev is looking to make it three fights in the space of a month as the plans are currently for him to compete at UFC 252 on August 15 which takes place in Las Vegas.

As of now, however, there is no opponent with just 11 days to go for the pay-per-view event.

“I don’t know,” Chimaev told Chael Sonnen when asked if he had an opponent yet. “I train every day. … I just want an opponent to smash.”

Chimaev vs. Cerrone?

UFC president Dana White recently revealed he was working on a fight for him as we speak but it remains to be seen if Chimaev will get a ranked opponent as he wishes.

The 26-year-old notably called for a fight with Cerrone in previous weeks and with “Cowboy” recently revealing he was in training camp again, there was speculation that he could face Chimaev next.

Again, there is no update on that front, but Cerrone is a big name that Chimaev would love to fight next. However, he also sees the veteran as an easy win.

“No, nothing, brother,” Chimaev added when asked if there was any news regarding a Cerrone fight. “I would be happy if they give me him.

“He has a good name, but for me it’s an easy fight, easy win. I think first or second round, I’m gonna finish him.”

Chimaev

Khamzat Chimaev will be back in action soon. Whether it’s against a ranked opponent remains to be seen for now.

Chimaev made a big splash in the UFC since debuting last month with two dominant victories in the space of 10 days. He is now eager to go again at UFC 252 which takes place August 15 and Dana White is more than receptive to the idea.

But despite previously acknowledging Chimaev may even be ready for the ranked welterweights, White remains unsure at the moment if that will actually happen. However, he is still working on a fight for the 26-year-old.

“I don’t know. I don’t know if that’s the case but we’re working on that right now,” White told TSN when asked if he would get a ranked opponent (via BJ Penn). “This guy wants to fight every weekend. He wants to fight every weekend. I love guys like that. So I gotta figure that side out first.”

White: Ranked Fighters Should Want To Face Chimaev

Given the nature of Chimaev’s victories as well as his grappling style, it wouldn’t be a surprise if some ranked welterweights preferred not to face him, especially with him being unranked at the moment.

But as far as White is concerned, rankings shouldn’t matter and given how high Chimaev’s stock is right now, fighters should want to step up and face him next.

“No. Listen man, this is the fight business. If you think you belong in the top-15 then a guy who isn’t ranked should not be a concern of yours,” White added.

“Plus, the guy’s picked up so much traction and has become so famous so fast that it’s a good fight to take. Hopefully, you’re the guy who is going to be the first to stop him. Those are the guys I want to talk to. I want to talk to the guys that want to be the first to stop Khamzat (Chimaev). His Instagram has grown 15,000 percent.”
