UFC welterweight, Belal Muhammad makes a comparison between Khamzat Chimaev and Conor McGregor, claiming both just make claims on Twitter.

With his recent win over Gilbert Burns, Belal Muhammad is in a prime position to challenge for the welterweight title. However, with Chimaev’s next fight rumoured to be against former champion, Kamaru Usman, a win for him could also see him with a strong case for being the next challenger.

While speaking to The Schmo, Muhammad revealed that he was skeptical that the Chimaev vs. Usman fight would take place. He also took the opportunity to criticize Chimaev, commenting on his regular social media callouts and drawing comparisons to former champion, McGregor.

This new Twitter age is kind of annoying. Khamzat’s one of the guys, kind of like Conor McGregor,” Muhammad began. “He wants the attention, so he’ll throw out a random tweet here and there, but nothing ever comes of it, right? So, when they say that (Chimaev vs. Usman), I’m like, ‘Bro, that fight’s not happening.’ They’ll talk about it, both say something about it, and then there won’t be nothing else.

“You’ll see, ‘Khamzat’s gonna fight this guy! Khamzat’s gonna fight that guy!’ So, I think it’s literally just talk to stay in the news, stay relevant. If Khamzat makes 170 (welterweight), that would be a great fight. But I doubt he could make 170.” (H/T MMA News)

Chimaev is expected to return on the October pay-per-view card in Abu Dhabi which which will mark over a year since his last fight.

As for Muhammad, he is staying ready and has recently been training under the eyes of UFC legends Cain Velasquez, Daniel Cormier, and Khabib Nurmagomedov at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California.

Khamzat Chimaev

Dana White is once again targeting MMA media, this time for spreading rumors about a potential rift between himself and undefeated star Khamzat Chimaev.

It’s been nine long months since ‘Borz’ stepped foot inside the Octagon and depending on who you’re talking to, the reason for that will swiftly change with each party blaming the other. That alone is more than enough for media outlets to start speculating about the relationship between the two polarizing combat sports figures. But when Khamzat Chimaev seemingly went on a massive unfollow spree on social media, it added a whole lot of gasoline to the flickering flame. Initially, Chimaev unfollowed everyone except for UAE-based MMA pioneer Tam Khan and the often controversial Andrew Tate.

In response, news outlet MMA Mania ran an article pointing out the fact that, at the time, Khamzat Chimaev had unfollowed every UFC account, including that of Dana White, and suggested that there could be tension between the two which directly relates to Chimaev’s lengthy layoff. White quickly sought to squash the accusation the headline was making, chalking it up to the media creating another “bullsh*t” story for clicks.

“This is the ‘media.’ I could literally do this every day with almost every story that’s written, White posted on Instagram along with a screenshot of the headline in question. “Everything these people write is total and absolute bulls**t.”

Khamzat Chimaev and Dana White May Be on Good Terms, but There is a Clear Lack of Communication Between the Two

Since then, Khamzat Chimaev has resumed following Dana White on Twitter, including a couple of other UFC-related accounts. ‘Borz’ also commented on White’s post. “My big brother forever,” Chimaev added on Instagram.

While Khamzat Chimaev and White may not have any personal issues between them, there is clearly some miscommunication between the two when it comes to his lack of fights over the last several months. White previously placed the blame squarely on the shoulders of Chimaev, suggesting the Chechen-born wrestler had a lot of personal stuff going on in his life.

“That’s on him (Chimaev), though. He’s got stuff going on in his personal life,” White said of Chimaev’s absence. “That’s not because we’re not getting him a fight. Obviously, you know how it goes here. I talk about this all the time, we have to get guys three fights a year. If we don’t get guys three fights a year, we have to pay them. The only way that wouldn’t happen is if they have personal stuff going on.”

‘Borz’ disputed White’s comments, letting it be known that he is more than ready for a fight as soon as the promotion presents him with one.

“I have no problems with fights, if they gave me a fight, I would have fought a long time ago, I did so many training camps and not one fight, the problem is definitely not with me, prepared in dubai then to thailand, why do I train so much if there is no fight, I don’t understand, Chimaev said on Twitter in response to White’s comments.”

Khamzat Chimaev claims UFC want Colby Covington to win title because he's American

Khamzat Chimaev believes Colby Covington’s undeserved welterweight title opportunity is the result of his nationality.

Covington’s last appearance inside the Octagon came more than a year ago when he bested bitter rival Jorge Masvidal in a main event grudge match at UFC 272. After going 2-2 in his last four, both losses coming against then-welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, ‘Chaos’ has somehow found himself on the cusp of another UFC title fight. Dana White’s insistence that Covington was the next man in line led many MMA fans and fighters to cry foul as they failed to understand why Covington was the recipient of yet another title fight.

But for Khamzat Chimaev, the reasoning seems relatively clear. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the undefeated Chechen monster suggested that Covington’s inevitable title tilt with welterweight champ Leon Edwards was all based around the promotion desiring an American-born champion.

“I don’t know what UFC wants to do,” Chimaev said. “They give it to Colby that chance. When he win his last fight? I don’t remember. Who did he win against? Nobody. He’s a nobody, he wins against nobody. Usman broke his chin two times. He knocked down that guy.

He is sh*t and they give that chance for him because maybe he’s from USA. They want the belt for him. I’m from Sweden, I live in Dubai, so maybe they don’t want to give that belt to me. So, only that thing I see. I don’t know what else. Maybe they have good plans for me, I don’t know. I trust that guys, so we’ll see (h/t BJPenn.com).

Khamzat Chimaev Could Return Against Former Champion Kamaru Usman

With six-straight wins inside the Octagon, including a unanimous decision victory over No. 5 ranked welterweight Gilbert Burns last year, Khamzat Chimaev has been lobbying for a UFC title opportunity, whether it be at welterweight or middleweight. Fans can expect to see ‘Borz’ return to the cage later this year as the promotion heads back to Abu Dhabi in October. Recent rumors suggest a fight with Kamaru Usman is on tap for this fall, but no official announcement has been made and likely won’t be until we get toward the end of summer. Should he come out on top in the potential clash, he will likely find himself as the next man in line for a title shot.

Meanwhile, Colby Covington has stayed busy calling out practically every fighter under the UFC banner since his emergence from the shadows in March. A date for his return against ‘Rocky’ is yet to be announced, but it is expected to go down before 2023 comes to a close.

Khamzat Chimaev issues warning to Leon Edwards I'm ready for you UFC

Seeing a slew of scheduled showdowns with Leon Edwards fall to the wayside through 2020, undefeated welterweight contender, Khamzat Chimaev has issued a warning to the current division champion, clamoring for his premier title offing under the UFC banner in his Octagon return.

Chimaev, the current #4 ranked welterweight contender, improved to 12-0 as a professional back in September of last year in the co-main event of UFC 279, submitting Kevin Holland in a dominant opening round D’Arce choke submission success.

As for Edwards, the Birmingham native turned in his second career win over former pound-for-pound number one, Kamaru Usman back in March at UFC 286, successfully defending the welterweight title in the pair’s trilogy title rubber-match.

Slated to fight Chimaev on three separate occasions between December 2020, and March of 2021 – illness for both fighters forced the bout’s postponement and ultimate cancellation.

Khamzat Chimaev has been tipped to make his return at UFC 294 in October

And preparing for an expected middleweight division climb in his much-rumored Octagon return in October – Chimaev, who has been linked with a spot on the upcoming UFC 294 pay-per-view card in Abu Dhabi, UAE, has called for fights with the above-mentioned, Usman, middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya – and claimed he was “ready’ to fight Edwards too.

“I want to fight for the title, so for me it doesn’t matter which weight class,” Khamzat Chimaev said on his YouTube channel. “I can go [170 pounds], but i don’t want to make weight for a nobody at [170 pounds], why am i going to do that? I’m number three – actually, that number for me is nothing. I feel I’m the king of this weight class and I’m the king of [185 pounds] as well.”

“So, just give me a title shot,” Khamzat Chimaev explained. “I’m ready for both. I’m ready for (Kamaru) Usman. I’m ready Leon (Edwards), I’m ready for Israel (Adesanya). Doesn’t matter. I’m ready for everybody. Just ask Dana (White) when I say no. Never. I want to fight I am the best, and when you feel you’re the best you have to fight with the best, everyone.”

Khamzat Chimaev tipped to bring tough fight to Kamaru Usman in UFC clash

Former light-heavyweight title challenger, Anthony Smith sees Khamzat Chimaev as a tough stylistic matchup for Kamaru Usman.

It has been rumoured that Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev will square off later this year on the Abu Dhabi PPV in October. It would be a meeting of a decorated and experienced former champion in Usman and an up-and-coming brute in Khamzat Chimaev, who is unlike anyone that the MMA world has seen before.

The matchup has all the making to be a great one and the winner would put themselves in prime position to fight for a title, but when analysing the fight Anthony Smith feels that Usman could be at a disadvantage. Talking the Believe You Me podcasts which he co-hosts with Michael Bisping, Smith discussed the potential welterweight bust up.

It’s a bold move, for sure,” Smith said. “It says a lot about where he is mentally because I think a lot of people were kind of writing him off just a little bit and saying, ‘Oh, he’s done. He’s probably just gonna kind of fade off into retirement.’ But him wanting to fight Khamzat is the total opposite of that.

“That’s a tough fight for Kamaru if I’m just being very honest and fair with my analysis. I think what he does well kind of fits right into Khamzat’s game. I think maybe a younger less beat-up Kamaru, I think that fight’s a little bit different. He’s not as much of a wrestler as he used to be. He used to chase the takedown relentlessly. I don’t think he even has the capability to really do that anymore just with his knees and some of that stuff.” (H/T MMAFighting)

Chimaev, the current #4 ranked welterweight contender, slipped from the top-3 in the official welterweight rankings earlier this month, following Belal Muhammad’s impressive unanimous decision win over common-foe, former title challenger, Gilbert Burns at UFC 288.

Yet to feature since September of last year in the co-main event of UFC 279, in a period of fierce inactivity for the Chechnya native, Chimaev most recently improved to 12-0 as a professional with a first round D’Arce choke submission victory against Kevin Holland.

Khamzat Chimaev calls for UFC championship opportunities

Claiming this week that he would also defeat two-time and current undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya without strikes if they competed against each other, Chimaev has now declared himself as the “king” of both the welterweight and middleweight limits.
