Alex Pereira no interest in Khamzat Chimaev fight UFC 287 I don't even talk about him

Ahead of his incoming UFC 287 title rematch with former undisputed champion, Israel Adesanya this weekend, current middleweight kingpin, Alex Pereira has zero interest in sharing the Octagon with the undefeated welterweight challenger, Khamzat Chimaev, claiming the Chechen-born contender “talks too much”.

Headlining UFC 287 this Saturday in Miami, Florida, Pereira looks to end his rivalry with former undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Adesanya – having collected the division crown against the Nigerian-Kiwi back in November of last year.

Featuring at the Madison Square Garden flagship event last year, Pereira managed to rally to defeat City Kickboxing staple, Adesanya with a stunning fifth round standing TKO win at the Octagon fence.

And in the weeks removed from the bout, Pereira was linked with a title defense with the current #3 ranked welterweight contender, Chimaev, who had claimed the Sao Paulo native had rejected the opportunity to fight him at UFC 282 on short-notice in December of last year.

Alex Pereira unmoved by calls for a fight with Khamzat Chimaev next

Focused on this weekend’s title re-run with Adesanya, Pereira remains unmoved on a fight with the unbeaten, Chimaev, weighing up potential fights with former champion, Robert Whittaker, and compatriot, Paulo Costa next instead.

“This week, I’m obviously focused on Israel (Adesanya), but talk about [Robert] Whittaker, and Paulo Costa,” Alex Pereira told assembled media during his availability on Wednesday. “I know they want to fight me. They were never disrespectful. They always kept their composure, but when you talk about [Khamzat] Chimaev, he’s the kind of guy that seems to be a little lost, he talks too much.”

“Right after my last fight, he said that he wanted to fight me at this weight class,” Alex Pereira said. “He knows it was right after the fight, everybody’s injured. I could not make that weight so I challenged him to a fight at 205 [pounds]. He ran. To be honest, if it’s Whittaker or Paulo Costa, if the organization wants to put us to fight, it’s my job to fight as UFC champion, but I don’t even want to talk about Chimaev.”

Sidelined since September of last year, Chimaev co-headlined UFC 279 against incoming UFC 287 feature, Kevin Holland, submitting the Riverside native with a first round D’Arce choke in an impromptu catchweight pairing.

Former two-time UFC welterweight title challenger, Jorge Masvidal has hit out at the undefeated, Khamzat Chimaev – questioning if the Chechnya native is utilizing steroids, and questioning his longevity in the sport.

Masvidal, the current #11 ranked welterweight contender, returns to the Octagon this weekend in the co-main event of UFC 287, taking on Brazilian contender, Gilbert Burns.

Returning to his native, Miami, Florida – Masvidal has a three-fight losing skid to overcome against Burns, having previously dropped a pair of losses to former champion, Kamaru Usman, and last March, former interim titleholder, Colby Covington.

Hitting out at undefeated #3 ranked welterweight contender, Chimaev ahead of this weekend’s flagship event – Masvidal questioned how the AllStars MMA staple could call for a title fight after missing weight in his last outing.

Jorge Masvidal blasts rival, Khamzat Chimaev

And now, Masvidal has questioned if Chimaev had been utilizing steroids ahead of UFC 279, before predicting his impending exit from mixed martial arts.

“I’m not accusing him of using steroids – which I wouldn’t be surprised [of] anyway,” Jorge Masvidal said of Khamzat Chimaev during an interview with The Sporting News. “But anyone that’s doing steroids and not making the weight, you’re not a fighter. You are a version of a fighter, but you’re not a pure fighter because you can’t do that.”

“…I don’t think guys like that – he had already retired at some point because he caught Corona (COVID-19), or the flu, I don’t know,” Jorge Masvidal explained. “He made this whole big stink. I don’t know, personally, if he’ll be around this sport much longer.”

Himself weighing up his fighting future, Masvidal remained coy on hanging up his own gloves, however, admitted a loss to Burns at UFC 278 on Saturday would likely force him to consider walking away from active competition

Former undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker has refused claims from the undefeated welterweight contender, Khamzat Chimaev that he turned down an offer to fight him in his Octagon return, as well as noting his intentions to see how this weekend’s UFC 287 title fight plays out.

Whittaker, the current #2 ranked middleweight contender, most recently featured in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night Paris back in July of last year, defeating recent UFC 286 winner, Marvin Vettori in an impressive, one-sided unanimous decision victory.

The victory returned Whittaker to the winner’s enclosure, having previously suffered a unanimous decision rematch loss to former champion, Israel Adesanya at UFC 271 back in February of last year in a championship fight.

Breifly expected to feature at UFC 284 in February of this year, the former undisputed middleweight champion was linked with a fight against division contender, Paulo Costa, however, the Brazilian elected against penning a bout agreement for the Perth, Australia card – scuppering a planned pairing.

Robert Whittaker denies avoiding a fight with Khamzat Chimaev

In recent weeks, the aforenoted Chechen finisher, Chimaev has claimed the trio of Alex Pereira, Colby Covington, and even Whittaker have rejected offers to fight him – a claim the latter has vehemently rejected.

“Someone said (Khamzat) Chimaev offered me a fight and I turned it down,” Robert Whittaker said during an interview with MMArcade Podcast. “I was never offered a fight with Chimaev, and that’s that. That’s that – that’s it. I haven’t been offered any fight.”

“I’ve just been waiting, and like I’m sure I could’ve asked for someone in the meanwhile,” Robert Whittaker explained. “Like, I’ve been talking to the UFC and I’ve been asking what’s up. The communication has just been, ‘Let’s wait and see what happens with this title shot.’ I haven’t received any sort of written contract asking if I want to fight Chimaev on X, Y, Z, that’s not something that has been presented to me.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com

Former two-time UFC welterweight title challenger, Jorge Masvidal has hit out at the undefeated division challenger, Khamzat Chimaev, criticizing the Chechen-born contender for calling for a title siege, off the back of a seven and a half pound weight miss in his last fight.

Masvidal, the #11 ranked welterweight contender, has been sidelined since March of last year, most recently headlining UFC 272 in a grudge match against former interim welterweight champion, Colby Covington – suffering a one-sided unanimous decision loss.

As for Chimaev, the AllStars MMA staple improved to 12-0 as a professional in his most recent Octagon walk – maintaining his #3 rank in the weight class after a submission win over Kevin Holland.

Initially scheduled to headline UFC 279 last September against Nate Diaz, Chimaev forced the bout’s cancellation after missing weight by a staggering seven and a half pounds for the fight, resulting in a catchweight co-main event bout with Holland.

Expected to make his return to the middleweight division for his next Octagon walk as per UFC president, Dana White, Chimaev has been blasted by Florida veteran, Masvidal for calling his shot at promotional gold.

“You miss weight by eight and a half pounds (sic), get the f*ck  out of here,” Jorge Masvidal said of Khamzat Chimaev on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. “You’re still talking about nobody wants to fight you, go f*cking make weight before you talk about fighting. That’s the first thing. Don’t do steroids and make the f*cking weight that you agreed upon as a f*cking man. You’re going to miss by eight pounds and think it’s all cool and be calling people out? Get the f*ck out.”

“I saw him (Chimaev) do a comment that he was calling out (Alex) Pereira,” Jorge Masvidal explained. “Like, who the f*ck are you? This is a world champion and you don’t even have a f*cking win over a top-15 guy [at middleweight]. Get the f*ck out of here at 185. Go f*cking be like the rest of us, put your hard hat on, put your mouthpiece on, and get to work. You can’t miss weight by eight and a half pounds and call for title shots.”

Paulo Costa fight offer UFC October fight Khamzat Chimaev

UFC middleweight contender and one-time title challenger, Paulo Costa has revealed he has been approached with three offers to make his Octagon comeback after agreeing terms on a new contract, following links with an October fight against the undefeated, Khamzat Chimaev.

Costa, the current #5 ranked middleweight contender, has been sidelined from active competition since August of last year, featuring in a main card outing against former undisputed division champion, Luke Rockhold.

Snapping a two-fight losing skid against former champion, Israel Adesanya and fellow former title challenger, Marvin Vettori, Belo Horizonte native, Paulo Costa defeated Rockhold with a unanimous decision effort – sending the Californian into retirement subsequently.

Confirming recently how he had agreed terms on a reportedly lucrative four-fight deal with the Dana White-led organization, Costa’s manager, Tamara Alves claimed that the Brazilian would earn in excess of $1,000,000 per fight

And the outspoken fan-favorite then proclaimed that he would become the first mixed martial arts fighter in history to earn $1,000,000,000 over the course of his professional career.

Seeing a February fight against former undisputed middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker fall to the wayside prior to the UFC 284 pay-per-view event, Costa revealed the UFC had offered him a May return against Sean Strickland following contract talks.

Paulo Costa expressed interest in fighting Khamzat Chimaev this year

Furthermore, the top-5 contender claimed the UFC were chomping at the bit for a fight between him and the undefeated welterweight contender, Chimaev, who has been linked with a return at UFC 294 in October in Abu Dhabi, UAE – on ‘Fight Island’.

Whilst failing to shed total light on his comeback to the organization, Costa revealed on his official social media how he has been approached with three fight offers from the UFC.

“I have 3 offers in (sic) tables right now,” Paulo Costa tweeted

Prior to his second round TKO loss to the above-mentioned, Adesanya in their 2020 title fight, Costa had turned in consecutive victories over the likes of Yoel Romero, Uriah Hall, and former undisputed welterweight titleholder, Johny Hendricks.

Jiri Prochazka true power against Khamzat Chimaev in UFC fight

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Jiri Prochazka responded to comments made by Khamzat Chimaev about their time spent training together.

Earlier this week, Chimaev appeared on The MMA Hour, calling out a litany of the roster from 170-205lbs. The 28-year-old would mention Prochazka by name, bringing up previous sparring sessions and would claim that he ‘beat’ him on numerous occasions during their time together at AllStars MMA in Sweden.

When he was fighting Rizin and I was fighting Brave,” Khazmat Chimaev said about Jiri Prochazka. “We trained together in the gym. We sparred — hard sparring, and I won many rounds. I submit him many times, I beat him many times. He becomes a champ. Now I don’t know maybe it’s too bad fighters in this division [light heavyweight].”

Jiri Prochazka responds

In response, Prochazka took to social media to call out Chimaev, ultimately calling out the Chechen to a fight.

“Man, which person needs to speak again and again about this four years old information? Gym, inside information. Man, when we will meet next time in a cage, I will show you my true power, I will not it lightly. Don’t speak about others too much”, Prochazka said.

Chimaev would then post screenshots of DMs between him and Prochazka, agreeing to the proposition.

Jiri Prochazka responds to Chimaev

“See you soon boy. Respect. Let’s fight in Sweden, June or July”, said Chimaev. (H/T BJPenn.com)

While the idea of the matchup is a fun one, the likelihood of it being next is extremely slim. Prochazka is still recovering from a serious shoulder injury which ultimately forced him to vacate his light heavyweight title and no timetable has been discussed by either the UFC or Prochazka for an Octaton return.

As for Chimaev, it’s been six months since we have seen him compete, with little in terms of plans being set — in fact, it’s not clear which weight class Chimaev will be competing at next.
