Falling Tree Knockout of the Day: Theo Michailidis Wrecks Corrin Eaton With a Spinning Back Elbow

(Props: BCMMAUK via MiddleEasy)

I don’t know anything about London-based featherweight Theo Michailidis, other than the fact that he’s fought a bunch of guys with charmingly foreign names. (Kenzos Xristos! Giorgi Papuasvilli! Alex Bilobrovaka!) Last Saturday at BCMMA 9, Michailidis took on the relatively normal-named Corrin Eaton, and blasted him in the jaw with a devastating spinning back-elbow near the end of the first round. Eaton stiffens up and falls directly backwards; falling tree knockout has been achieved. Also, I think the ref’s t-shirt says “MAKE TEA NOT WAR,” which is 1) incredibly British, and 2) kind of unexpected in a combat sports setting.

This Tornado Kick Falling Tree KO Might Have “Knockout of the Year” Wrapped Up [VIDEO]

(Props: mmaUNDERGROUND/Staunch Top Team)

On November 1st in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, Muay Thai ace Jonathan “Jungle Doctor” Tuhu obliterated his opponent with a 360-degree kamikaze-style tornado kick. Now, we’ve seen some pretty fantastic spinning-kick knockouts this year, but what sets this one apart is the reaction of the KO-victim, who drools out his mouthpiece, drools a little bit more, then falls to earth in the most dramatic falling tree impression since Vovchanchyn vs. Bueno. Honestly, this might be the greatest falling tree knockout ever. If you disagree, please let us know in the comments section and provide visual proof.

Street Fight of the Day: Russian* Dude Knocks Two Fools Cold With Just Two Punches

(Props: MiddleEasy)

As is often the case with Russian alley fights, context and backstory are completely irrelevant here. But basically, this video features a guy in a hooded jacket demolishing two consecutive foes with two perfect punches. The first victim gets falling tree’d with a left hook. The second one eats an off-balance haymaker and drops to the ground, temporarily dead.

Watch that second knockout again and you will notice two things. 1) The dude got knocked out while trying to throw a leg kick. In a street fight. So, so embarrassing. 2) The second knockout victim also had a cigarette in his mouth at the time, which was ejected like a bullet due to the force of the punch. Those two details combine to make this video a late front-runner for 2014 Unsanctioned Fight of the Year. If you have any better candidates, let us know.

* I’m going to assume these people are Russian, because the full video of this incident was originally uploaded to the FromRussiaWithLOLs YouTube account. And that’s what passes for fact-checking around here.

Falling Tree Knockout of the Day: Damacio Page Annihilates Brian Hall at Legacy FC 36

(Props: AXS TV Fights)

Friday night at Legacy FC 36, bantamweight veteran Damacio Page knocked out Brian Hall about as ferociously as one person can knock out another person. Less than two minutes into the bout, Page landed a sledgehammer overhand right that put Hall into falling tree mode. It was one of those super creepy knockouts where Hall was totally unconscious, but his eyes remained open (aka, “The Living Death”). Page is now 4-0 under the Legacy banner, with all four wins by stoppage.

Expect to see this knockout on some end-of-year lists, although this is still the 2014 KOTY frontrunner in my book.

VIDEO: Hermes Franca Is Quickly KTFO’d in First MMA Fight Following Prison and Deportation

(Props: MEIAGUARDA Fortaleza)

Hermes Franca returned to MMA competition last Thursday at Extreme Fighter: Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil, and was smashed in 34 seconds by Marcio Breno. Franca looked rusty for a reason; the former WEC lightweight champion and UFC title contender hadn’t competed in over three years, due to his prison stint for sexually abusing an underage jiu-jitsu student, and his subsequent deportation back to Brazil.

If you’re into karmic justice, watch the video above. Franca swings some decent leg kicks early, but Breno drops him with a right cross at the video’s 1:47 mark and bounces his head off the canvas a few times with shots from above, causing the ref to jump in. Eventually, Franca makes it back to his feet and the crowd chants something at the 2:20-2:32 mark. (Are they saying “Hermes”? And if so, are they doing it sarcastically? I can’t tell.)

Releated thought: This list from 2008 has become woefully outdated in the year 2014. Most of those guys would be off the list due to inactivity. New version to come soon…

Knockout of the Day: Amanda Bell Smokes ‘Horsewoman’ Marina Shafir at ‘Chaos at the Casino 5?

With six consecutive first-round submission victories to her name in amateur and pro competition (five via armbar), featherweight prospect Marina Shafir was expected to cruise through Amanda Bell during their match at Chaos at the Casino 5, Sunday night in Inglewood, California. Instead, the fight turned out to be the latest blow for Ronda Rousey‘s “Four Horsewomen” stable, as Bell knocked Shaffir out in just 37 seconds. Video of the finish is above.

Bell came into the fight with a pro record of 1-2, but had previously TKO’d Jessamyn Duke during an amateur bout in 2011, making her the only fighter to hold wins over two of the Horsewomen. (Is that an impressive stat? Not really. But Bethe Correia has the opportunity to match it when she faces Shayna Baszler at UFC 177 on August 30th.) Anyway…

Here’s a bunch of photos of Ronda Rousey and Marina Shafir hanging out together.
