The art of the post fight interview is something that very few can master. It’s a craft, and one that takes a combination of timing, an element of comedy, controversy and also some decent subject matter to all come together. This seldom happens, but when it does we get some seriously memorable moments. In some cases, the post fight interviews can become more memorable than the fights themselves.joe rogan

UFC Fight Night 87 continues in Rotterdam, The Netherlands this evening, and the anticipation is growing for the heavyweight main event between Andrei Arlovski and Alistair Overeem. For now we continue our journey through the exciting main card, and now it’s time for Germaine De Randamie vs. Anna Elmose at women’s bantamweight.

Six inch reach and height advantage to the striker GDR, they touch gloves and the Dutch crowd is heavily behind De Randamie. They both move very well on their feet, nice straight right by GDR, wow this girl has brutal power. They clinch and Elmose shoots for the single, GDR spreads her weight well and resists against the fence. They remain in the clinch, Randamie sprawling still, nice reversal by GDR, but they remain clinched.

Knees from Elmose but they are met by equal amounts in return, to the chin from De Randamie and Anna ‘Panda’ is wobbled. GDR stuffs a takedown and has side control, they stand. Nice sharp jabs by GDR, this woman is scary, horrible knees connect in the clinch over and over, this is like watching a snuff film. Randamie with a huge knee to the gut and it’s over, Randamie by TKO (knee to body) round one.

The division has been warned.

Falling Tree Knockout of the Day: Theo Michailidis Wrecks Corrin Eaton With a Spinning Back Elbow

(Props: BCMMAUK via MiddleEasy)

I don’t know anything about London-based featherweight Theo Michailidis, other than the fact that he’s fought a bunch of guys with charmingly foreign names. (Kenzos Xristos! Giorgi Papuasvilli! Alex Bilobrovaka!) Last Saturday at BCMMA 9, Michailidis took on the relatively normal-named Corrin Eaton, and blasted him in the jaw with a devastating spinning back-elbow near the end of the first round. Eaton stiffens up and falls directly backwards; falling tree knockout has been achieved. Also, I think the ref’s t-shirt says “MAKE TEA NOT WAR,” which is 1) incredibly British, and 2) kind of unexpected in a combat sports setting.

TUF 20 Video Highlights: Felice Herrig vs. Randa Markos Ends in First-Round Submission

(Video via TheUltimateFighterFX)

TUF 20 got its first semi-finalist on last night’s episode, when #14-ranked Randa Markos tapped out #6 seed Felice Herrig in the first round with a brilliant modified armbar. Now carrying wins over Herrig and Tecia Torres, Markos has become the season’s Cinderella story — but keep in mind that her next fight will be a true buzzsaw against the winner of Rose Namajunas vs. Joanne Calderwood.

Also on the episode, Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez squared off in the Coaches’ Challenge, which was a non-physical competition for the first time ever, on account of Pettis’s gimpy knee. So if you feel like watching a semi-awkward UFC trivia competition hosted by Bruce Buffer, that’s after the jump.

Kill a Half Hour Watching Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler’s First Fight at UFC 171

(Props: UFC on YouTube)

In advance of their welterweight title fight rematch at UFC 181 (December 6th, Las Vegas), the UFC has released the full video of Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler 1 — the Fight of the Year candidate that took place at UFC 171 in March. Hendricks won the bout by unanimous decision (48-47 across the board) following a wild brawl that we stopped trying to score after the second round. In particular, the third round, which starts at the video’s 15:18 mark, is an incredible testament to both fighters’ ability to give and receive damage. It’s a true classic, and not a bad way to spend a half hour if you’re bored at the office today.

Hey, Who Wants to See Another Exploding Ear in an MMA Fight? [VIDEO]

That was a rhetorical question, of course, because everybody wants to see another exploding ear in an MMA fight. Exploding ears are in our DNA, bro.

In the wake of Leslie Smith’s cauliflower ear blowing up at UFC 180, BloodyElbow has dug up an even messier clip of welterweight Rance Jones Jr. popping Dion Rizzuto’s ear at Atlas Fighting Championships 4 back in September. At the 1:14 mark, you will see a geyser of blood so propulsive that it must have drenched a few cageside spectators.

And that’s how the ebola virus began to spread in the United States.
