Highly ranked Featherweight contender Chan Sung Jung “The Korean Zombie” has shared some of his plans for 2021 during a recent interview with Korean publication Sport TV News.

During the interview, Jung was asked when he would be making his return to the Octagon to which he replied that he was awaiting a contract but expected it to be in April. Jung said that he could potentially compete this month in January, however, the UFC is currently working on an opponent for him. Jung also shared his goal for the year was to fight at least two times and to emerge victorious in both matchups.

Recently Jung called his shot on Twitter calling out fellow Featherweight contender Zabit Magomedsharipov in December following his recent loss to Brian Ortega. Since Magomedsharipov had recently lost his multiple time scheduled opponent Yair Rodriguez, Jung felt that a matchup between them would make sense and also be a crowd-pleaser.

“This is a fight that would bring the fans to their feet,” Jung said. “(He) and I are both entertainers and extremely competitive, so I think he’d like to step in the octagon with me. A win for both of us would mean a lot for our careers, and it would be an amazing match. The ball is in Zabit’s court; I want this fight to kick off 2021,” Jung said in an interview with MMA Junkie.

Jung took on the number one Featherweight contender Ortega late in 2020 after the fight was rescheduled due to injury on Ortega’s side. In this matchup, the pair engaged in a five-round striking fight that saw Ortega dominate Jung from start to finish. Look past this loss Jung appears to have his sight set on getting back in the octagon and the win column as soon as possible.

Currently, there has been no word from the UFC or Zabit regarding the matchup and it is unclear if this is the mystery opponent the UFC are working on.

‘Korean Zombie’ hopes to get back into title contention in 2021 after a dominant loss at the hands of Brian Ortega in October.

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Chan Sung Jung reflected on his defeat to ‘T-City’ which was the toughest of his career.

“It was honestly the most mentally challenging fight of my career,” Jung said via translator. “Physically, it was also very challenging, and my ego was struck down too. Luckily, I didn’t have any injuries. My two-week quarantine once I returned home to Korea made me very focused on the future.”

‘Korean Zombie’ was defeated but is not disheartened. The fan favourite is already eyeing up another big fight with Zabit Magomedsharipov and hopes the pair will square off in the early months of 2021.

“I want Zabit (Magomedsharipov),” Jung said. “That’s the fight that’s going to get me closest to a title shot. More than that, I want to once again try to prove myself against one of the hottest fighters in the division and prove that I’m still capable of competing at the highest level. Of course, I would understand if he doesn’t want to fight me.”

Magomedsharipov hasn’t competed since November 2019. His long talked about fight with Yair Rodriguez seems to be off the table. UFC president Dana White recently hinted that Rodriguez would not be returning to the Octagon for some time. ‘Korean Zombie’ isn’t convinced the Russian will accept a fight with him and tried to talk up the potential match-up as the interview progressed.

“This is a fight that would bring the fans to their feet,” Jung said. “(He) and I are both entertainers and extremely competitive, so I think he’d like to step in the octagon with me. A win for both of us would mean a lot for our careers, and it would be an amazing match. The ball is in Zabit’s court; I want this fight to kick off 2021.”

Do you think Zabit Magomedsharipov will accept a fight with ‘Korean Zombie’?

The beef is settled between Brian Ortega and The Korean Zombie.

After what was a heated buildup for nearly a year, the pair finally collided in their highly-anticipated UFC Fight Island 6 headliner on Saturday night that saw Ortega come out on top via unanimous decision after an impressive performance.

The reason for their beef stemmed from hostile words shared towards each other after Ortega had to pull out of their December fight through injury. It ultimately culminated in Ortega slapping Zombie’s friend and translator Jay Park at UFC 248 earlier this year.

Although things did simmer down later on, there was still some bad blood going into their featherweight matchup — not anymore though.

Zombie was seen embracing Ortega after the fight and even playfully slapped him in what was undoubtedly a nod to the Park incident.

You can watch it below:

For Zombie, it’s back to the drawing board while for Ortega, he is seemingly next in line for a shot at Alexander Volkanovski’s featherweight crown.

IT’S TIME! The UFC Fight Island 6 main event is finally upon us. Brian Ortega returns to the Octagon for the first time in almost two years to face off against ‘The Korean Zombie’ in the featherweight fight with title implications. Who’ll win? Let’s find out…

Round 1: ‘The Korean Zombie’ leads the dance with big wide hooks that miss. Brian Ortega lands with a heavy leg kick. Both men are being really patient right now. Despite the animosity it’s clear these two fighters respect one another. Ortega lands another leg kick. ‘TKZ’ rush forward and lands a nice one-two straight down the middle. Both fighters land with low leg kicks. Ortega is trying to keep his opponent at range. Each and every time ‘Korean Zombie’ steps in Ortega pops him with something to maintain distance. Ortega is opening up and drops ‘TKZ’ with a overhand. The Korean pops straight back to his feet but that was legit. Ortega goes upstairs with a kick that partially lands. He’s really starting to turn it on at the end of this round. Both men clash and try to throw as they break as the horn sounds to end round one.

Round 2: A really slow start to round two. Ortega lands a low leg kick and the fight suddenly sparks into life. ‘The Korean Zombie’ rushes forward with a flurry of punches. Ortega is covering up well and is blocking most of them but ‘TKZ’ did sneak a few in. Ortega drops down for his first takedown of the bout. ‘TKZ’ does really well to defend it. ‘T-City’ swings an overhand that catches his opponent on the top of his head. Ortega is pressed back against the fence. ‘TKZ’ lands a nice one-two. He quickly follows up with a nice uppercut. ‘The Korean Zombie’ rushes in once again and eats a huge spinning elbow. Ortega drops him and is trying to follow up now for the finish. ‘TKZ’ eats some ground and pound before popping back to his feet. Ortega shows his fight IQ by dropping down to secure the takedown and riding out the rest of round two in top position.

Round 3: Another slow start. ‘TKZ’ still seems to be shaking off those shots from round two – he’s stretching out his jaw right now. Jung is hesitating right now and it’s allowing Ortega to take his time and pick his shots. Ortega goes to the body with a kick. ‘The Korean Zombie’ returns with a right hand over the top. Ortega level changes and fires off a hard straight shot to the body of his opponent. The one-time title challenger is really mixing up his attacks tonight. ‘TKZ’ comes over the top again. Ortega rattles off another low leg kick. He tries to shoot for a takedown. ‘TKZ’ shrugs it off but eats a nice hook on the break and round three lands shortly after.

Round 4: ‘The Korean Zombie’ is pushing forward at the start of round four. He’s likely down three rounds right now. Ortega is content to move back towards the fence but seems to take the middle too. He shoots for a takedown. Ortega pushes him from one side of the Octagon to the other. As he breaks he lands a huge shot that cuts and hurts ‘The Korean Zombie. The blood is pouring into his eye and the referee stops the fight and invites the doctor in to check it out. After a brief look, we are back underway. ‘TKZ’ is really struggling to get anything off tonight. He throws a body kick but it’s caught and Ortega nails him with a big shot. This fight is starting to get away from ‘TKZ’. Ortega ends the round with a deep takedown attempt. It doesn’t come off but he uses the desperation to try to land more big strikes

Round 5: ‘TKZ’ pushes forward at the start of round five. He lands a straight to the body. Ortega hits a low kick. ‘T-City’ keeps grabbing down for the leg and it’s really throwing his opponent off. It’s a complete shut out at this point. Ortega is feeling himself popping off shots that are knocking back the head of ‘The Korean Zombie’. He’s down but ‘TKZ’ keeps pushing forward. However, every time he gets in range he seems a bit shot shy. Ortega certainly isn’t and continues to catch his man coming in. ‘The Korean Zombie’ is having a bit more success towards the end of this round. He’s landed a couple of big strikes but is unable to follow up. Ortega has supreme confidence in his chin and is content to remain in the pocket. The fight ends with both men throwing – Ortega even tried to spin for that elbow again.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Brian Ortega def. ‘The Korean Zombie’ via unanimous decision.

Top ranked Featherweight Brian Ortega stepped on the scale this morning with a brand new look ahead of his number 1 contender’s main event tomorrow night against The Korean Zombie Chan Sung Jung.

Over the last few years, Ortega has sported long hair, rocking a man bun, ponytail, etc. where it had become almost a signature look, along with the cornrows on fight day.

At the Friday morning weigh-ins for his fight with the Korean Zombie, however, he revealed he’s cut off all of his hair ahead of his fight.

While rumors quickly spread regarding why he cut it, mainly due to a potential weight cut issue, it was revealed that he had donated his hair to “Locks of Love” which is for children who are undergoing chemotherapy.

Brian Ortega has not fought since a December 2018 TKO loss to Max Holloway for the title. He’ll look to get back to a long coveted title shot post injury.

The Korean Zombie, meanwhile, last fought in December 2019, when he picked up a first-round knockout win over Frankie Edgar, who stepped in to replace an injured Ortega on short notice. He’ll be looking for his second career title shot with a win tomorrow night.

How Do you see Ortega vs Korean Zombie playing out tomorrow night?
