Last weekend in Poland the Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki promotion held their latest show from the Hala Torwar in Warsaw with KSW XXI: Ultimate Explanation. The event was headlined by a middleweight bout between local fighter Mamed Khalidov (26-4-2) and former TUF 3 season winner Kendal ‘Da Spyder’ Grove (18-11, 1NC), who has been looking to get back into the UFC. Grove carried a four fight win streak into the fight while Khalidov carried a six fight undefeated run into the main event. The bout would end in Khalidov’s favor as the Polish fighter would secure an achilles lock on Grove to force the tap in the second round. The UFC may not be too far off for Khalidov with a solid win over a proven fighter like Grove.

Press Release – The biggest European promotion KSW returns to its birth city of Warsaw with its year-end show on December 1st in Torwar Arena. The best Polish and foreign fighters will once again provide MMA fans all around the world with maximal dose of sporting excitement.
In the event’s headlining bout, the most outstanding European middleweight Mamed Khalidov will square off against the kickboxing superstar Melvin Manhoef. In the classic grappler versus striker match-up, the unbeaten on his home turf Pole will look to use his slick submission skills to submit his foe, while the explosive Dutch knockout artist will try to rip Khalidov’s head off with his trademark punches and kicks. This is undoubtedly one of the most exciting MMA showdowns to be held in Europe this year.
Apart from the spectacular main event, the star-studded show will also feature as many as three title bouts. In the middleweight championship clash, Micha? Materla will defend his belt for the first time facing UFC veteran Rodney Wallace. The Szczecin-based fighter won this valuable trophy in May, outlasting Jay Silva in a battle that will go down as one the best fights in Polish history. Wallace returns to KSW to erase his disappointing performance against Khalidov at KSW 19. Since then, the experienced American won two consecutive bouts by TKO stoppages and is eager to add another one in front of the Polish audience.
The inaugural KSW welterweight title will find its way to either Aslambek Saidov’s or Borys Ma?kowski’s hands. It will not only be the clash of two highest ranked Polish welterweights, but also a rivalry between two of the most renowned teams in Poland in Arrachion MMA Olsztyn and Ankos Zapasy Pozna?. Saidov earned his way to the title with six KSW victories in a row, while Ma?kowski won his two KSW appearances this year.
The KSW lightweight championship fight will feature a long-awaited rematch between fan-favorites Maciej Jewtuszko and Artur Sowi?ski. In November of last year Sowi?ski upset the UFC veteran with a knockout victory in just forty-six seconds. Since, then, the popular Irokez has been burning with revenge, calling out his rival on every occasion. KSW owners answered his demands and set up the anticipated match-up for the December’s show.
The rest part of the card also guarantees unforgettable excitement. Former KSW middleweight champion and one of the Polish MMA pioneers Krzysztof Ku?ak returns from injuries to battle young up-and-comer, Nastula Team product Piotr Strus. In the first American versus American clash in KSW history, the former title challenger Jay Silva is set to face the true veteran of the sport Matt Horwich, while the opening bout the night features the second leg of the KSW female tournament with Paulina Bo?kowska squaring off against Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
The entire KSW 21 seven-fight card will air both on free-to-air Polsat and cable Polsat Sport. Outside of Poland the show will be available via IplaTV online PPV.

This past weekend saw Polish strong man Mariusz Pudzianowski (3-2, 1NC) earn a controversial unanimous decision victory over British heavyweight James ‘The Colossus’ Thompson (16-14, 1NC) in a rematch from their previous meeting earlier in the year.
On Monday, KSW officials announced that an error on the judges score card led to an incorrect announcement on Saturday night, awarding the bout to Pudzianowski. The promotion stated that they would have the result changed to a “No Contest”. Judge Piotr Baginski had in fact scored both rounds for Thompson but due to an error in the scoring procedure, the scores were awarded to the wrong fighter.
The Polish based Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki (KSW) promotion runs their fights with two rounds, followed by a third “overtime” round if the match is scored a draw at that point. With the bout having only gone two rounds, the promotion was left with no other choice than to declare it a “No Contest”.
After the bout on Saturday, Thompson launched a verbal assault at the promotion and it’s owner ranting “F**king joke. Give Mariusz a big round of applause. Come on. What a f***ing joke. I thought KSW was really trying to be serious. If you can watch that back and call that serious, then (looking at the promoter) you’re f***ed, and KSW is going down the f***ing toilet.”
On Monday, Thompson apologized for his comments, but declined to commit to a third fight against the Polish strong man.
“I appreciate KSW acknowledging the issues with the judging and taking quick steps to remedy the situation,” Thompson wrote today in an exclusive statement to MMAjunkie.com.
“As for whether I will fight Mariusz again, the no-contest goes some way in the right direction to address the issues I have with KSW in this fight, but there are things I need to sort out with them,” he wrote. “If talks work out well, then I am sure possibilities of another fight with [Mariusz] will be discussed, but if not, then I will look to take other fights and continue on with my career elsewhere.”
“The support for me about this whole situation has been amazing, from fans – especially the Polish ones – (and) other fighters, even people who aren’t fans but simply love MMA and don’t want the sport to go down the same route as boxing did,” he stated. “It’s all been a bit overwhelming, but is very much appreciated.”
Former PRIDE heavyweight, and British born fighter, James Thompson competed in Poland this evening in the co-main event of KSW XVII: Revenge against the world’s strongest man, Mariusz Pudzianowski.
After two rounds, KSW features two round matches with an overtime third round for draws, which saw Thompson control much of the first, the judges scored the bout for Pudzianowski by unanimous decision.
After the world’s strongest man thanked the crowd, Thompson grabbed the Mike and went off on the promotion in anger.
