Jorge Masvidal is the UFC’s BMF Champion, meaning he’s down to step into the Octagon against anybody.

However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t matchups out there that “Gamebred” isn’t looking forward to. Recently, Masvidal was interviewed by Submission Radio to get his thoughts on the upcoming matchup between Leon Edwards and former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. Edwards and Woodley headline UFC London on March 21 from the O2 Arena. The winner could very well get a title shot next.

Masvidal is already lined up to face UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, as the Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion is looking to book the fight for International Fight Week in July. Should Masvidal win, that would likely put his first title defense against the Edwards vs. Woodley winner. If Edwards picks up the win, Masvidal, who has a bit of beef with Edwards already, says he’d “definitely” fight “Rocky.”

However, in regards to fighting Woodley, if it was up to him, he’d rather not fight “T-Wood.” But if it’s the fight that makes sense, he’d still, of course, fight his fellow American Top Team (ATT) original.

“If Leon wins the fight, it’s gonna happen. Me and him are gonna definitely fight, because now he’s a very strong candidate for the fight. And in the case of Woodley, if I had to pick a guy I wouldn’t fight, it would be him. That’s not a guy that I want to fight.

“But if we’re gonna fight, if we’re both in position for the belt, yeah, we’ll do it. And there’d be no heat about it. Afterwards, we’d go hang out, fucken eat food, talk shit. Me and Woodley have a really good relationship and we see things really similar. It’s just business. It’s nothing personal.”

First, however, Masvidal will have to get past Usman, who comes off a big first-ever title defense in which he finished Colby Covington in the fifth round of their UFC 245 main event in December. There has been a heated rivalry built up between Masvidal and Usman, which should make for an extremely entertaining bout.

Leon Edwards may be facing an angry Tyron Woodley at UFC London.

Edwards faces his toughest task yet when he meets Woodley in the UFC London headliner on March 21. And “Rocky” is certainly doing all he can to annoy the former champion.

He recently mocked his rap music and claimed that once he defeated him, Woodley could go back to rapping on a full-time basis. That angered Woodley who not only responded on the Instagram post, but also proceeded to message Edwards privately:

“I put out a meme [about his rap career] on my Instagram and he DM’d me and everything, and then he blocked me,” Edwards told the Eurobash podcast. “He blocked me and everything – he took it really personal because I brought up his sh*t music. To me it’s all banter, he’s taking it seriously, but there’s nothing much you can do. He’s saying, ‘I’m angry now,’ and blah, blah, blah, but he’s still going to come in and do the same thing. He’ll throw a few kicks, a few takedowns, there’s only so much you can do. I’m just looking forward to the fight, it’s going to be a good one.

“… I put the meme up and I can’t remember what it was. I deleted it and he blocked me after. I don’t know [the DM] was something like, ‘You punk-ass, I’m going to knock you out,’ and blah, blah, blah…and ‘I make more money than you’…just a bag of nonsense, really. I deleted it after and then he blocked me. I think I really got on his nerves…but he is a crap rapper…everyone knows he’s sh*t! I don’t understand what the issue is.”

Considering how rattled Woodley seems to have gotten by the comments, Edwards wants to take another dig at “The Chosen One” — by walking out to one his songs at UFC London:

“I might walk out to his music – that might be funny,” Edwards said. That would be a good little dig at him before the fight! We’ll see.”

That said, Woodley is not an easy opponent whatsoever. Edwards acknowledges this as he believes his opponent is his toughest fight yet. However, he is well-prepared:

“On paper, it’s my toughest fight, but we’re not going to know until we get in there,” he added. “I’ve been there before where I thought I was going to have a tough fight, and I’ve got in there and it’s been easy, so we’ll see. On paper, he’s the most accomplished guy I’ve fought, but I don’t know – I’m ready for whatever he brings.

“I know everyone is looking at his last fight with Usman and saying he might be finished or washed up, but I don’t believe so. I’m preparing for the best Woodley, I’m preparing for the one that knocked out Robbie Lawler.”

Former UFC fighter turned commentator Dan Hardy has been talking up the UFC London main event between Leon Edwards and Tyron Woodley. The one-time welterweight title challenger believes the winner of this bout on March 16 will be next in line for 170lb champion Kamaru Usman, speaking to MMA Junkie, he said.

“Absolutely
– I don’t see how not, especially if it’s Leon, because he’s been poised for
this opportunity for a long time.”

British contender Edwards revealed he has a title shot built into his new contract, however he must get by the dangerous Woodley in London first. It won’t be easy, and Hardy pointed that fact out, citing the former champions demolition job on fellow Brit Darren Till. The pair met at UFC 228 in September 2018. Woodley scored a second round submission win after dropping his opponent and landing some nasty ground and pound before sinking in a choke.

“Tyron
Woodley’s a very dangerous fighter,” Hardy said. “He’s got that piston of a
right hand. He’s got a hell of a wrestling game. We saw him run through Darren
Till.”

Whilst obviously not the primary focus, Hardy believes ‘Rocky’ will take some motivation in bettering the achievements of Till. The two have shared a low-key rivalry and the chance get one over on ‘The Gorilla’, beat a former champion and earn a title shot will bring the best out of Edwards.

“I
think there’s an advantage for Leon to get this win over Tyron because Darren
Till didn’t – because there’s been that animosity between him and Till before,”
he said. “I just think there’s a lot to be gained for this for Leon, and I
think that’s a motivating factor for him. Leon motivated is dangerous, and I’m
excited for him.”

Will Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards earn a welterweight title shot by beating Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley at UFC London?
