The Ultimate Fighter 8 winner Efrain Escudero will head across the pond
on Sept. 10 to fight Tim Radcliffe at BAMMA 7 at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, the promotion announced Monday, along with lightweight title bout Rob Sinclair vs. Leonardo Santos and welterweight matchup Matt Ewin vs. Valentino Petrescu.

BAMMA 7 is the follow-up to the May 21 event at the Wembley Arena, which featured Frank Trigg, Ivan Salaverry and what turned out to be the retirement fight for Murilo “Ninja” Rua.

Last September, Escudero (16-3) became the second The Ultimate Fighter winner to be handed his release (Travis Lutter was first) after losing to Charles Oliveira at UFC Fight Night 22. The 25-year-old lightweight won three straight following his release before suffering a loss last month against Fabricio Camoes at Tachi Palace Fights 9. Radcliffe (11-4) won both his fights this year against Michael Pastou and Alexandre Izidro and holds six submission victories.

Sinclair (9-2) will be making his second defense of his BAMMA lightweight strap when he faces Sengoku veteran Santos (9-3). In March, Sinclair took a fight with another British promotion, OMMAC, and scored a TKO over Martin Begley. With the crumbling of the Sengoku promotion, Santos debuted for BAMMA in May and defeated Jason Ball via unanimous decision.

Ewin (22-9-1), who missed 2009 and 2010 entirely, defeated Salaverry via unanimous decision at the last BAMMA event. Petrescu (11-2) also won at BAMMA 6, defeating Joao Paulo de Souza via majority decision.

Four-time BJJ World Cup champion Leonardo Santos has suffered a neck injury during training and has been forced out of his anticipated title elimination match with Yoshida Dojo rising star Maximo Blanco at Sengoku Raiden Championship 15. Stepping in on just over one week’s notice will be former welterweight and middleweight King of Pancrase Kiuma Kunioku.

In 2002, Kunioku held both the welterweight and middleweight Pancrase crowns and during his 66-fight career has picked up significant victories over UFC middleweight contender Nate Marquardt, Genki Sudo, Frank Shamrock, Guy Mezger and Masakatsu Funaki but since a 2004 TKO loss to Kazuo Misaki has slipped somewhat, going 4-7-2 in his last 13 outings.

Santos defeated Kunioku with a quick rear-naked choke back at Sengoku 12.

While we hear reports of financial troubles over in DREAM, Sengoku is moving forward as Director Taro Mukai predicted “slow and steady.”

Sengoku 14 will feature middleweight champion Jorge Santiago granting Kazuo Misaki a rematch in his second title defense, the welterweight and the Asian bantamweight tournaments, Hatsu Hioki returning to Sengoku after capturing Shooto gold and Akihiro Gono will debut at lightweight against a sumo’s friend.

After the break, predictions so good, lets just call them pre-fight results.

Four-time BJJ World Cup Champion Leonardo Santos will be making his return to the Sengoku ring against the newly recruited “Sengoku training player” Sotaro Yamada at SRC 14 on August 22nd World Victory Road announced Monday.

Santos, a Nova Uniao black belt, last fought in Sengoku back in March where he choked out former middleweight and welterweight King of Pancrase Kiuma Kunioku in the first round.

Yamada holds a MMA record of 6-4-1 but has not fought since 2008 but instead has been focusing on his grappling. Training out of Kazuyuki Miyata’s BRAVE gym and part of Sengoku’s fighter development program, Yamada holds a notable submission victory over CBJJ Mundial Champion and ADCC veteran Ryan Hall.
