Li Jingliang has revealed what went wrong for him against Khamzat Chimaev.

UFC veteran Li Jingliang is set to take on Muslim Salikhov at UFC on ABC 3 on July 16 at UBS Arena in New York. Jingliang is coming off a hard loss to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 267 last October. Chimaev dominated the seasoned pro, rag dolled him, even picking him up and taking him to the corner of the octagon where UFC president Dana White was at to have a chat.

Chimaev continued smashing “The Leech” before handily finishing him in the first round with a rear-naked choke.

Li Jingliang reveals why he lost to Khamzat Chimaev

In an interview with James Lynch, Li Jingliang talked about his loss to the rising “Borz” and what he took away from the result.

“Yeah, I think I got victory and I think I learn more if I got a loss. The last fight, I was a little rushed into the fight. I wanted to knock him out. I could see (Khamzat’s) game time pretty well so I fought to his pace instead of getting him to my pace. My biggest takeaway is to stay and follow your own rhythm.”

With a defeat that hard, it’s important to note Jingliang was considered a step up for Chimaev, who got a high-ranked opponent off the back of the win. Chimaev would go on to edge out a close-fought battle against former title challenger Gilbert Burns in his next fight.

“Borz” is waiting to get booked

Khamzat Chimaev brought a lot of excitement with him to the UFC. Currently sitting at the third spot in the official rankings, Chimaev could get a shot at the gold sooner than later. Colby Covington, the top contender, has already fought the champion Kamaru Usman twice and a third shot looks unlikely anytime soon.

Leon Edwards, the other man above Chimaev, is scheduled to challenge Usman for the title at UFC 278 on Aug. 20. If Edwards manages to dethrone the commanding king, a rematch appears to be the most ideal path ahead.

However, if Usman defends the strap once more, he could be looking at Chimaev for his next fight, unless he moves up to 205 lbs.

On Monday, May 16, a host of UFC fights were announced for this summer, and MMA News is here to give you a rundown of all the matchups!

With bouts announced across multiple divisions, including amongst the stacked bantamweight, lightweight, and welterweight rosters, as well as the bookings of a number of fan-favorite fighters, these scraps are bound to deliver some entertaining action.

Check them out below and see which excites you the most.

UFC Lightweight: Brad Riddell vs. Jalin Turner – July 2

How about this for an intriguing matchup? UFC 276 just got more exciting with the addition of entertaining lightweights Brad Riddell (10-2) and Jalin Turner (12-5). The pair will meet on the July 2 pay-per-view card, which is scheduled for International Fight Week.

Riddell, who is currently ranked #14 at 155 pounds, rose up the ladder with a perfect 4-0 start in the UFC that included decision victories over Magomed Mustafaev and Drew Dober. But in his latest outing, the New Zealander fell to defeat against a man he’d previously trained with at Phuket’s Tiger Muay Thai facility, Rafael Fiziev.

Having been the victim of a vicious wheel-kick finish last December, Riddell will look to rebound against the unranked Turner, who is riding a four-fight win streak. After an impressive TKO win against Jamie Mullarkey earlier this year, “The Tarantula” has earned a crack at adding a number next to his name.

This bout was confirmed by Iridium Sports Agency, the team that manages Turner.

UFC Bantamweight: Ricky Simón vs. Jack Shore – July 16

Perhaps the most important matchup put together in terms of divisional rankings sees undefeated bantamweight prospect Jack Shore (16-0) square off against experienced campaigner Ricky Simón (19-3).

Since arriving in the Octagon in 2019, Shore has maintained his perfect professional record with five Octagon triumphs, including submissions of Nohelin Hernandez and Aaron Phillips. Most recently, the Welshman thrilled the UK crowd at UFC London with unanimous decision victory over Timur Valiev, a win that eventually aided his ascent into the rankings, where he currently occupies the #14 slot.

Simón, who sits two places above “Tank” on the bantamweight ladder, is in similarly impressive form. The nine-fight promotional veteran has won four straight, including a December 2021 knockout victory over the ranked Raphael Assunção.

The pair of rising 135lbers will meet at the UFC Fight Night event scheduled for July 16, per Cageside Press’ Alex Behunin.

UFC Featherweight: Billy Quarantillo vs. Bill Algeo – July 16

In the featherweight division, the always-entertaining Billy Quarantillo (16-4) is set for his first appearance of 2022. At the July 16 UFC Fight Night, he’ll take on former CFFC champion Bill Algeo (15-6).

Since earning a contract through Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019, Quarantillo has gone 4-2 inside the Octagon. Across his last four outings, “Billy Q” has traded wins and losses, having his hand raised against Kyle Nelson and Gabriel Benitez, while falling to defeats against Gavin Tucker and, in a wild fight at UFC 268 last November, the ranked Shane Burgos.

While Quarantillo will look to rebound on July 16, Algeo will be fighting to secure back-to-back wins for the first time in his UFC career. In his 2-2 promotional slate, “Señor Perfecto” has outpointed Spike Carlyle and Joanderson Brito, but lost on the scorecards to a pair of Ricardos in Lamas and Ramos.

This matchup was first reported by Sherdog’s Tudor Leonte.

UFC Welterweight: Li Jingliang vs. Muslim Salikhov – July 16

If your plate hasn’t been filled with July 16 news, here’s a third bout announced for that particular UFC Fight Night card, this time in the welterweight division.

Per MMA Fight Universe, #13-ranked contender Li Jingliang (18-7) will make his first appearance since being decimated by Khamzat Chimaev this summer. In his way of a successful rebound will be elite striker Muslim Salikhov (18-2).

While “The Leech” will look to maintain his spot in the rankings and return to the kind of form that saw him brutally knock Santiago Ponzinibbio out last January, the “King of Kung Fu” will be targeting a sixth addition to his win streak, which has seen him collect victories over the likes of Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos and Francisco Trinaldo.

UFC Lightweight: Drew Dober vs. Rafael Alves – July 30

In another potential banger, this time at 155 pounds, lightweight veteran Drew Dober (24-11-1) will throw down with DWCS alum Rafael Alves (20-10) at UFC 277 on July 30, per MMA Fight Universe.

The formerly ranked Dober has been a mainstay in the Octagon since 2013, a period in which he’s faced the likes of Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev. Having rebounded from a two-fight losing skid last time out with a memorable come-from-behind TKO of the highly-touted Terrance McKinney, the entertaining Nebraskan will look to edge closer to the rankings against Alves.

The Brazilian has gone 1-1 in the Octagon since earning a contract. Following a decision loss to Damir Ismagulov last May, “The Turn” entered the win column in the UFC for the first time with a first-round submission victory over Marc Diakiese six months later.

UFC Middleweight: Gerald Meerschaert vs. Bruno Silva – August 13

Finally, in another intriguing scrap, this time in the middleweight division, veteran submission specialist Gerald Meerschaert (34-15) will share the Octagon with Brazilian brawler Bruno Silva (22-7).

After back-to-back losses, including a 17-second KO setback to Khamzat Chimaev, Meerschaert found form with three consecutive wins, all of which came via submission. Having failed to maintain his streak last time out against Krzysztof Jotko, “GM3” will hope to avoid falling to a losing skid when he battles Silva.

“Blindado” will also be targeting a rebound performance having had his lengthy win streak ended. After seven consecutive victories, including three UFC knockouts, Silva fell short in a memorable three-round fight against world-class kickboxer Alex Pereira earlier this year.

Per Brazilian outlet Ag.Fight, the pair will collide at the UFC event slated for August 13, where it’ll be 19 KOs versus 26 submissions.

Which of these UFC fights are you most looking forward to?

The Pulse of MMA: Fan Reactions To The Sport’s Biggest Stories

In this installment of The Pulse of MMA, we look at the raw, unfiltered reactions from MMA fans to the UFC’s nominations for Best Submission of 2021.

It’s the last week of 2021, which means it’s time to start looking back at the biggest and best moments of the year. Right now, that means taking a peek at the UFC’s nominations for the best submission of the year.

You can expect everyone and their grandpappy to break out their year-end lists over the next few days. But naturally, the UFC’s lists stand apart from the rest given that, well, it’s their promotion.

So on behalf of the UFC, we at MMA News present to you their nominations for best submission of 2021! After a brief recap of each submission, you can find the video showcasing all the action followed by the Pulse of MMA letting their collective voice be heard on their thoughts on the nominations list. Vicente Luque Submits Tyron Woodley via D’Arce choke (UFC 260)

During what was an action-packed first round, Tyron Woodley brought the fight to Vicente Luque. No longer gun-shy and tentative, Woodley took a more proactive approach. Though he had some success in the beginning, eventually, Luque got the better of the stand-up exchanges, culminating with a barrage of strikes that had “The Chosen One” on wobbly legs before ultimately being dropped by a looping left hook by the Brazilian, which led to the D’Arce.

Brandon Moreno Submits Deiveson Figueiredo via Rear-Naked Choke (UFC 263)

Brandon Moreno came into UFC 263 as an underdog, but he exited as a champion. Heading into the third round, Moreno was up on two out of the three scorecards, with the third judge having it one round apiece. The judges would be taken out of the equation when he secured the rear-naked choke after peppering Figueiredo with a couple of left hands while applying a full body lock.

Glover Teixeira def. Jan Blachowicz via Rear-Naked Choke (UFC 267)

Coming into the fight, it was well known what was Glover Teixeira’s path to victory when he challenged Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight championship at UFC 267. The second-degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt would be well served to get the fight to the mat and do what he had done in three of his previous five fights: get the submission. And that’s exactly what happened.

After getting the takedown in the second frame, Teixeira effortlessly passed Blachowicz’s guard into mount, prompting the Pole to give up his back, which is the last thing you want to do against Teixeira. Within seconds, the 42-year-old had secured the light heavyweight prize as well as his place in UFC history.

Kevin Holland

Kevin Holland has a few names in mind when it comes to his debut in the welterweight division.

Holland has made it clear that his next fight will be at 170 and has no desire to fight Kyle Daukaus after their last fight ended in a no contest. The two had a head to head clash that gave Daukaus the upper hand. He was able to finish the fight, but after replay they deemed it a no contest, since Holland was clearly knocked out from the blow.

Holland has also made it clear he wants to go toe to toe with another striker inside the octagon. A couple names that came to mind were Daniel Rodriguez and Li Jingliang. Holland was being interviewed by ‘The Schmo’ when he name dropped those fighters.

“So at 170, D-Rod said he’s a little hurt right now and I don’t know when he’s gonna get better, but if he’s ready by January or February, that would be nice.If not, the guy that Chimaev just fought [Jingliang]. You wanna strike? I’m down to strike baby, let me know. Probably somebody that likes to bang. Still down to test the wrestling, but can we squabble a little bit?”

Rodriguez is coming off a win against Kevin Lee and holds a 6-1 record in the UFC. Jingliang is coming off a loss against Khamzat Chimaev, where he got submitted in the first round. Both fighters are very dangerous on their feet.

A fight against Rodriguez or Jingliang would be enticing for Kevin Holland

Both those fighters as Holland said, like to stand and throw hands. That would be a welcoming change for Holland who has been matched up recently with guys that like to grapple. Holland has always joked about his wrestling and even cracks wise during fights with ‘DC’.

He has even trained with AKA to improve his grappling, but everyone knows Holland wants to put on a show with his hands. The move up to 170 is an intriguing move and many are interested to see how Holland matches up against some of the top guys.

Who would you like to see Kevin Holland fight in the welterweight division.

Li Jingliang is down but not out.

Jingliang suffered a first-round submission defeat after getting dominated by Khamzat Chimaev in their welterweight contest at UFC 267 last night.

Chimaev quickly took Jingliang down and looked to finish the fight with ground strikes. Jingliang managed to survive only to see his back get taken.

“”Borz” applied the rear naked choke and despite getting out of it a couple of times, Jingliang’s luck didn’t last for long as Chimaev eventually put him to sleep.

It was a tough way to lose for the Chinese star who has now suffered his second defeat in his last three outings overall. However, he only plans on coming back stronger as he took to social media following the setback.

“Adult beauty. Feed the wolf, the sun will still rise tomorrow. I will train hard and come back. Thank you friends and fans for supporting me.”

It’s not the worst thing for Jingliang either given how high Chimaev’s stock is.

Jingliang’s own stock was pretty high after an emphatic knockout victory over Santiago Ponzinibbio eaerlier this year. Another win like that and he will be back on track once again.

Who do you want to see Jingliang fight next?
