A great welterweight matchup will co-headline UFC Shenzhen this weekend in China.

No. 14-ranked Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos will take on Li Jingliang in what should be an explosive contest. Both men are proven finishers inside the Octagon, but more so dos Santos as of late, who has won seven-straight, finishing his last three in a row. He’s one of the best unkept secrets at 170 pounds, but has been flying under the radar given how talent-stacked the division is at the moment.

Speaking to LowKickMMA, dos Santos said he’s not frustrated at all, and will eventually reach his ultimate goal of becoming champion.

“With every fight I’m proving my worth, so sooner or later I’ll reach my goal. I don’t feel frustrated at all. I’m really happy to be fighting in China, another challenge in my career, I’m ready to overcome it and on to the next.”

With a win over Jingliang, there’s nowhere to fight but up after that. The welterweight division contains household names such as Robbie Lawler, Anthony Pettis, Ben Askren, Demian Maia, and more ranked above dos Santos. If he leaves China with his hand raised, the Brazilian prospect is open to fighting anyone.

“Honestly, I would fight anyone, even the champion. It’s one step at a time and my focus is on this fight, but with a win I will probably be near a title shot.”

Dos Santos is stepping into enemy territory, fighting Jingliang in front of his native Chinese crowd this weekend. However, he claims he has been received well by the Chinese people and plans on putting on a show for the fans in attendance Saturday.

“I feel great. It’s my first time fighting in China, is a long trip, but I’ve been really well received here, I feel welcomed, so I’m really happy to be the co-main event and I’m here to show my game and definitely, put on a great fight.”

Do you think dos Santos is near a title shot with a win over Jingliang this weekend?

31-year-old Chinese UFC star Li Jingliang has the opportunity to get a number in front of his name this weekend (Sat. August 31, 2019).

Jingliang will take on Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos in the co-main event of UFC Shenzhen. Dos Santos is currently the No. 14-ranked welterweight in the world and is on a seven-fight winning streak. The Brazilian is also a proven finisher, finishing his last three fights.

For Jingliang, the opportunity to extend his win streak to three against dos Santos in front of his native Chinese crowd is a massive one. When speaking to LowKickMMA, Jingliang dispelled the notion that this is “just another fight,” and admitted his training has been tailored towards dos Santos specifically as an opponent.

“It’s not just another fight for me. Dos Santos is an all-around fighter and I have been tailoring my training against his moves. It’s the only way, to treat your opponent with full respect, and that we put on a great fight for all.”

Jingliang is competing on a card that is massive for the Chinese MMA market. With a UFC title fight headlining the night, and the recent opening of the UFC Performance Institute in China, Jingliang is excited to see the Las Vegas-based promotion in investing in the athletes of his country.

“I think this is fantastic and very good for Chinese athletes. And I hope China (athletes) will improve.”

This morning (Sat. November 24, 2018), UFC Beijing went down from the Cadillac Arena in Beijing, China.

In the featured UFC Fight Pass Exclusive preliminary contest, Alex Morono and Kenan Song put on an extraordinary bout. The two welterweights left it all in the cage after a tremendous three-round contest.

When it was all said and done, Morono got the nod on the judges’ scorecards via unanimous decision. However, their fight was good enough for Fight Of The Night honors. They’ll both take home an extra $50,000 as a result.

Opening up the main card, Chinese prospect Li Jingliang made quite a splash with a third-round finish over David Zawada. Jingliang landed a beautiful body shot that was able to put his adversary away. His finish was worthy of a Performance Of The Night bonus worth $50,000.

And finally, in the main event of the evening, Francis Ngannou displayed his horrendous knockout power yet again. “The Predator” finished Curtis Blaydes via TKO in under a minute. He too will take home a $50,000 Performance Of The Night bonus for his victory.
