Bellator MMA had to scramble once again for a new main event for this Friday’s Bellator 173 event in at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The prelims will air on bellator.spike.com while the four bout main card will air on Spike at 9 p.m. ET.

On Monday, Bellator officials announced that Chris Fields had been forced out of the main event against former Bellator light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary (11-1). Then it was announced that McGeary would fight promotional newcomer Vladimir Filipovic (8-2) at the event. Just 48 hours later, Bellator confirmed that Filipovic is out too due visa issues. Now, McGeary will be fighting Brett McDermott (7-4) on just two days notice.

McDermott has six of his seven career wins by knockout and fought Bellator heavyweight Oli Thompson in December 2014 as well as Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal in December 2015 under the Rizin FF banner. He went 2-1 in 2016.

James Gallagher vs. Kirill Medvedovsky in a featherweight bout will serve as the co-main event of Bellator 173. Rounding out the main card will be Sinead Kavanagh vs. Iony Razafiarison in a women’s catchweight bout and Colin Fletcher vs. Alex Lohore in a welterweight bout. Bellator MMA is headed to Belfast, Northern Ireland next month

The promotion announced via a press release on Tuesday that Bellator 173 would take place inside The SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Friday, February 24. The main event will be a light heavyweight bout pitting former 205-pound world champion Liam McGeary (11-1) against Chris Fields(11-7-1).

McGeary will enter the cage for the 10th time under the Bellator banner, where he has posted an 8-1 record with seven finishes. Following an 11-fight winning streak to begin his professional career, McGeary lost the title to Phil Davis back at Bellator 163. On the other hand, Fields will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight.

Also announced for the event is the return of 20-year-old James Gallagher. Having made his Bellator debut in London this past July in London, Gallagher followed up in December with a submission victory over Anthony Taylor at the 3Arena in Dublin. Gallagher’s opponent will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Bellator 173 prelims will air on SpikeTV.com while the main card airs on Spike at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. Tickets for the event start at just £35 and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.ie,SSEArenaBelfast.com, or the SSE Arena box office. More bouts for this event will be announced shortly.

At the Bellator 163 event on Friday evening, a new Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Champion was crowned.

Former UFC contender Phil Davis defeated Liam McGeary in the main event of Friday’s fight card, which went down at The Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut and aired live on Spike TV.

With the victory, “Mr. Wonderful” improved to a perfect 4-0 under the Bellator MMA banner. Additionally, Davis became the undisputed Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion by handing McGeary his first professional MMA loss via unanimous decision after five rounds. The judges scored the bout 50-43, 50-44 and 50-45, all in favor of Davis.
