Legendary boxer Manny Pacquiao isn’t quite done yet.

Already etching his name into the history books as an eight-weight world champion, Manny Pacquiao now has his sights set on closing out his career with an Olympic gold medal. According to Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino, Pacquiao hopes to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris next year.

Senator Pacquiao’s camp reached out saying our Filipino ring idol wants to fight in Paris,” Tolentino said in a statement.

The biggest obstacle Manny Pacquiao faces in qualifying for the games is the fact that by the time athletes head to Paris in 2024, ‘PacMan’ will be 45 years old, five years over the maximum allowable age limit. However, it has been reported that the local Olympic body is now discussing with the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines and the International Olympic Committee how Pacquiao might earn a spot at the games.

The next opportunity to quality for Paris 2024 will begin on September 23 when the Asia Games kick off in the People’s Republic of China. Pacquiao is unlikely to appear at the event given the limited amount of time between then and now, but there will also be two qualification events held during the second quarter of 2024 that could lead Pacquaio toward a birth in the Olympic Games.

Previously, Olympic-level boxing was exclusive to amateur pugilists, but that rule changed in 2016, paving the way for professional boxers to finally compete on the globe’s biggest stage.

Manny Pacquiao’s Accomplishments Speak for Themselves

With a career spanning more than a quarter century, Manny Pacquiao amassed an impressive 62-8 record and is considered by many to be the greatest boxer in the history of the sport. Aside from capturing world championships in eight different weight classes, ‘PacMan’ is the first fighter to capture the lineal championship in five separate divisions. He also holds the distinction of being the oldest fighter to win a welterweight world title.

‘PacMan last competed in 2021, suffering a unanimous decision loss to Yordenis Ugás in Las Vegas.

Before making a push for the 2024 Olympics, Manny Pacquaio will strap on the eight-ounce gloves for an exhibition bout with Muay Thai icon Buakaw Banchamek. Announced in July, the pair will compete under international boxing rules in Bangkok, Thailand this January.

Retired boxing legend Manny Pacquiao is set to face Muay Thai icon Buakaw Banchamek in a super fight slated for January 2024.

Bebangpakong (Worathep Makapokha), a renowned Thai sports insider, revealed in a post on Facebook that Pacquiao and Banchamek would square off as part of a mega-sized sports event called ‘The Match 3’ early next year. The information reportedly came from Vinij Lertratanachai, the CEO of Fresh Air Festival Co Ltd, who will be promoting the matchup.

On July 21, a press conference is scheduled to take place at 4:00 p.m. ICT where more details will be announced, including an official contract signing ceremony between the two combat sports stars.

Fresh Air Festival is best known for booking the Manchester United and Liverpool football match dubbed ‘THE MATCH Bangkok Century Cup 2022’ last year. In March, the company also hosted a six-red snooker tournament billed as ‘The 2023 Pathum Thani Six-Red World Championship’, otherwise known as ‘The Match 2.’

Buakaw is one of the most decorated Muay Thai practitioners in the history of the sport, competing in more than 270 career bouts. He is a former WMC and WBC Muay Thai world champion and has won the K-1 World Max tournament on two separate occasions. Buakaw walked away from the sport in 2019 but has since competed in exhibition bouts and kickboxing matches, including an appearance for Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship in 2022. He scored a first-round knockout against Erkan Varo at BKFC Thailand 3 in September.

His next appearance inside the squared circle will come against another legend in the art of eight limbs, Saenchai. The two men are scheduled to scrap at BKFC Asia 5 on November 5.

Manny Pacquiao, of course, needs no introduction. ‘PacMan’ is one of the most beloved boxers in the history of the sport, becoming the first and only eight-division world champion while capturing 12 different titles during his illustrious career. He was also the first boxer to win the lineal championship in five different weight classes. Pacquiao actively competed for more than 25 years but has since put more focus on his political career, serving as a Senator of the Philippines from 2016 to 2022.

Pacquiao went 62-8 in his career, his last appearance coming against Yordenis Ugás in August 2021. ‘PacMan’ came up short in the contest, suffering a unanimous decision defeat. A month later, he would announce his retirement from the sport. “My boxing career is already over. It’s done because I’ve been in boxing for a long time and my family says that it is enough,” Pacquiao told Toni Gonzaga in a September 2021 interview.

Former boxing world champion, Manny Pacquiao, is set to coach Philipines based influencer Vladimir Grand.

The infection of influencer boxings seems to be continuing to spread inside the combat sports world, and in yet another bizarre twist Pacquiao will now supposedly train a Tik Tok star from the ground up. Grand, who boasts nearly 2 million Instagram followers and 17 million on Tik Tok, posted an announcement to his social media alongside the former eight-division world champion.

“Hi everyone, this is Manny Pacquiao I have big news for you,” Pacquiao said. “For the first time in boxing history, I decided to get my first and only student whom I will personally train from zero and who will become a great boxer – Vladamir Grand.”

I still cannot believe this is happening,” Grand followed up. “I am just blown away by this news Manny. This is a huge honor and privilege to have you as my coach, to have you as my mentor, manger.

“I know this is going to be a long and exciting journey, for me, for us, for all of you guys,” Grand continued.

It is unclear why Pacquiao has decided to train Grand, originally from Ukraine, but it does seem that ‘PacMan’ has missed the sport since his retirement.

Will Manny Pacquiao to fight again?

Pacquiao retired from professional boxing following his August 2021 loss at the hands of Cuban pugilist, Yordenis Ugas. However he did have an exhibition contest against Korean YouTuber, DK Yoo in December of last year.

The 44-year-old fought professionally for over 25 years and is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters ever. Like many boxers, Pacquiao has clearly found it hard to walk away from the sport and while there have been rumours of a potential Conor Benn showdown, Pacquiao is slated to take part in another exhibition contest this year.

Conor McGregor is celebrating Paradigm Sports’ legal victory over boxing legend Manny Pacquiao the only way he knows how; by tweeting and deleting.

On Wednesday, Paradigm Sports, who represents some of the biggest names in combat sports including, Conor McGregor, was awarded a $5.1 million settlement after a ruling that their former client, Manny Pacquiao, was in breach of contact after negotiations for a bout with Mikey Garcia fell through. Paradigm reportedly fronted Pacquiao $3.3 million for the bout which never materialized. Paradigm was awarded that plus an additional $1.8 million in damages. With lawyer fees and interest, Pacquiao will be forced to pay $8 million in total.

Conor McGregor reveled in Paradigm’s win in a since-deleted tweet, sharing thoughts on his agency’s big day before turning his attention toward former friend Artem Lobov.

‘Manny owes 8 in all. 5.1 he owes and then 2.1 in legal costs,” McGregor tweeted. “Legal fees are heavy but that’s what we do. Heavy weight operations. Rartem, you already owe me two rounds of court fees, awarded by the judge. There will be a judgement put on your home as this progresses because I know you won’t have my legal fees. I will have no choice but to take your home. You are a mad thing lol. Silly c*nt.”

Last year, ex-UFC fighter Artem Lobov sued former friend Conor McGregor, claiming that he played a pivotal role in the inception of the Irishman’s popular brand of whiskey, Proper No. 12. Lobov sued for unpaid profits after McGregor sold the brand to Proximo Spirits in 2021 for a reported $600 million. The case was eventually thrown out with Lobov ordered to pay McGregor’s legal fees.

Following Paradigm’s win over Manny Pacquiao in court, the sports agency’s CEO issued a statement, saying:

“We are elated to learn of the jury’s ruling in Paradigm’s favor in our suit against Manny Pacquiao,’ Paradigm CEO Audie Attar said. “The jury plainly found that Pacquiao testified falsely in denying Paradigm’s claims against him, and his excuses for his conduct proves our case that a breach of contract was committed.

“We are appreciative of the court’s time and the jury’s careful attention to the facts of this case. Hopefully, Manny will have learned a lesson from the verdict and will henceforth act with the honesty and integrity that was so lacking in his treatment of Paradigm.”

Manny Pacquiao RIZIN 1

The Filipino-born boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has just announced that he will be coming out of retirement for a bout with RIZIN in 2023.

The 44-year-old boxer put together an incredible 62-8 record over his 26-year-long career in professional boxing, making his debut at just the age of 16. His last bout was a loss in 2021 against Yordenis Ugás for the WBA Super Welterweight title. More recently, Pacquiao took on three exhibition boxing bouts in Korea in 2022.

Manny Pacquiao will box for RIZIN in 2023

During the Bellator vs. RIZIN and RIZIN 40 New Years Eve event hosted in Tokyo, Japan, Manny Pacquiao stood at the center of the ring next to PRIDE and RIZIN founder Nobuyuki Sakakibara. The two announced that Pacquiao will face a Japanese opponent in the RIZIN ring in 2023.

Manny Pacquiao said:

“A few months ago, I was here as a guest and today I have a very exciting announcement tonight. I have agreed with Rizin to fight next year, the date will soon be announced and also my opponent that Rizin will choose. I’m open and excited to fight a Japanese fighter.” [Transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie]

RIZIN is certainly no stranger to ‘legends’ boxing fights. In two matches the Japanese MMA organization has hosted Floyd Mayweahter Jr. exhibition boxing bouts. Mayweather faced kickboxing great Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018 and former RINGS champion Mikuru Asakura in 2022. The US-born 50-0 boxing great walked away with a victory in both matches.

Later in 2023, a former Mayweather opponent, Manny Pacquiao will set foot in the RIZIN ring. The specifics remain to be seen but it will likely be an exhibition bout.
