Marc Diakiese will be sticking around the UFC’s Octagon for the foreseeable future.

The English lightweight standout announced on Twitter that he has signed his third multi-fight contract with the UFC this week, and he couldn’t be happier:

“Signed my 3rd multi fight contract with the @ufc today, couldn’t be happier!! Thank you for the continuous support. Time to get to work!!”

Diakiese joined the UFC back in 2016 and immediately began to turn heads with a three-fight win streak. However, “Bonecrusher” suffered a rough setback when he embarked on a three-fight losing skid against the likes of Drakkar Klose, Dan Hooker, and Nasrat Haqparast.

He picked up a much-needed victory against Joe Duffy in their 155-pound meeting at UFC Fight Night 147 in March. Diakiese defeated Duffy by way of unanimous decision on the ESPN+ preliminary card. It was his first victory under the UFC banner since 2017, when he knocked out Teemu Packalen in just 30 seconds in March of that year.

Now, the 26-year-old hopes to string together another win streak to continue his climb up the 155-pound rankings. It won’t be an easy ride, however, as lightweight is, arguably, the UFC’s most talent-rich division at the moment.

Nasrat Haqparast put a 15-minute beatdown on Marc Diakiese.

The opening bout on the main card of UFC Hamburg featured lightweight action. Haqparast went one-on-one with Diakiese. The action was held inside the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany. This was a special fight for Haqparast as he trains in Hamburg.

Haqparast opened up with a leg kick. Diakiese used his range with a front kick to keep his opponent on the outside. Another leg kick was there for Haqparast. Diakiese landed an inside elbow. An overhand left connected for Haqparast. Haqparast closed the distance and put the pressure on. Diakiese got tagged by his opponent and ate some knees to the body. Diakiese looked to struggle with the pressure of Haqparast. Diakiese kept eating uppercuts in the clinch. A left hook landed for Diakiese and the round ended a few seconds later.

Right away in the second stanza, Diakiese went high with a kick that was blocked. Time was called for an accidental eye poke to Haqparast. Haqparast’s left hand found a home. A nicke punch to the body followed by a body kick was there for Diakiese. Diakiese went for an uppercut. Haqparast found another left hand over the top. Diakiese threw out some jabs. Another left hand caught the chin of Diakiese. Diakiese was wobbled by a left hand. He dropped and Haqparast laid down some ground-and-pound near the end of the round.

The right eye of Diakiese was shut at this point. Haqparast  wasted little time throwing strikes in the final frame. An uppercut landed for Haqparast. Diakiese shot in, but got thrown off. A counter left hook was there for Diakiese. Diakiese went down again and Haqparast grabbed a hold of him. The fight returned standing and Diakiese’s nose was leaking blood. An outside low kick dropped Diakiese momentarily. A left hand conencted for Haqparast. The final horn sounded, this was a beatdown courtesy of Haqparast.

Final Result: Nasrat Haqparast def. Marc Diakiese via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Lightweight fireworks were certain to ensue when hyped striker Marc Diakiese took on New Zealand’s Dan Hooker on the main card of tonight’s (Sat., December 30, 2017) UFC 219 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Hailing from Congo, the now England-based Diakiese needed a win to rebound from his first MMA loss to Drakkar Klose in his prior fight. After an up-and-down UFC career, his opponent “Hangman” made a successful return to 155 pounds by knocking out veteran Ross Pearson with a highlight reel knee this past June.

The bout began somewhat slowly with Diakiese taking the center of the octagon and Hooker on the outside. Diakiese threw several kicks but nothing of real significance early on. The crowd grew restless as Diakiese avoided the little offense Hooker attempted. A spinning kick missed from “Bonecrusher,” who appeared stifled to a degree. He didn’t take much damage himself, however, and looked for a takedown after grabbing a kick attempt. Hooker defended it and landed a body kick to score a takedown at the tail end of the otherwise uneventful opening frame.

The second frame began with kicks from both fighters, and Diakiese was more aggressive. He scored a looping left hand and Hooker a body kick. Diakiese hit Hooker with a solid uppercut, and Hooker responded with a big shot before seeking a clinch against the cage. The New Zealander controlled the action for a while until Diakiese broke and landed a knee to the body. Hooker got another takedown and looked to take Diakiese’s back. He locked a body triangle, yet couldn’t do much with it as the referee threatened to stand the fight up. Diakiese spun and landed in top guard to close the second round.

Despite a slow opening two rounds, the third frame saw arguably the most action of the UFC 219 main card so far when an exchange unfolded and Diakiese shot a takedown and was immediately locked into a super-tight guillotine to score an impressive finish.

Final Result: Dan Hooker def. Marc Diakiese via R3 submission (guillotine choke, 3:42)
