Marcos Rogerio de Lima horrific injuries after UFC 291 loss to Derrick Lewis my teeth are loose

UFC heavyweight Marcos Rogerio de Lima details the damage he suffered following his knockout loss to Derrick Lewis at UFC 291.

Lima was on the receiving end of an explosive performance by Lewis, who holds the record for most knockouts in UFC history. In the bouts opening seconds, ‘The Black Beast’ would land a flying knee that would drop Lima before he would be finished with an onslaught of ground and pound

While Lima stood while Lewis’ win would be made official by Bruce Buffer, with no significant cuts or lumps – the Brazilian walked away with some serious damage done.

Marcos Rogerio de Lima reveals significant injuries suffered at UFC 291

Talking to Super Lutas, Marcos Rogerio de Lima discussed the injuries he suffered and how it has impacted his day-to-day life.

There’s a lot of people sending me messages, emails,” Marcos Rogerio de Lima said. “I’ve never received that many messages. I lost one fight and instead of supporting me, people from my country, my fans, are bothering me. I took a hard knee. My teeth are all loose. I can’t eat properly. It’s a hard moment. Let’s support our fighters and motivate them (H/T MMANews)

Lima, who has been fighting in the UFC for going on a decade, came into the bout on a nice 4-1 run in his last five. While this opportunity to break into the top 10 didn’t go to plan, Lima has proven himself a competent heavyweight and still remains ranked No.15.

Lima did not give a time frame on how long it will take to fully recover from his injuries.

As for Lewis, the fan favourite successfully ended a three-fight losing streak, which all came by stoppage. Lewis came in looking in great shape and seemed to have an extra level of motivation heading into to the fight. The 38-year-old is now a free agent and has set himself up nicely to get some big fights, and hopefully big money, in or outside of the UFC.

Derrick Lewis got back into the win column in a big way at UFC 291.

Lewis, who came up short in his last three outings, was determined to make a statement on Saturday night. ‘The Black Beast’ did exactly that, scoring a sub-one-minute TKO against Marcos Rogerio de Lima.

As soon as the bell rang, Lewis sprinted across the Octagon and took a page out of Jorge Masvidal’s book, throwing a brilliantly placed flying knee that knocked de Lima to the canvas. Lewis pounced on his opponent and unleashed a flurry of ground-and-pound strikes. De Lima did his best to roll out of danger, but as he gave up his back, Lewis swarmed on him further and unloaded another barrage of strikes forcing the referee to step in and call for the stoppage.

Official Result: Derrick Lewis def. Marcos Rogerio de Lima via TKO (strikes) at 0:33 of Round 1.

Following the news that Paul Felder and Dan Hooker would headline the UFC’s return to Auckland on February 23, another three fights have been added to the card.

Light heavyweight Tyson Pedro features as he returns to action for the first time since his TKO defeat to Mauricio Rua last year against Vinicius Moreira.

Pedro has lost three of his last four bouts after entering the promotion as an unbeaten prospect. A win against Moreira — loser of his last three outings — would signal the Aussie’s first win in nearly two years.

Another Aussie in Jake Matthews will look to make it two wins in a row when he faces Emil Meek in a welterweight bout. The 25-year-old was previously on a three-fight winning streak until he was submitted by Anthony Rocco Martin in December last year. He would bounce back with a conservative unanimous decision win over Rostem Akman at UFC 243 last month.

Meek, meanwhile, is on a two-fight losing streak and hasn’t fought since getting outpointed by Bartosz Fabinski in July 2018. His loss before that was a unanimous decision defeat to current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

Lastly, Ben Sosoli looks to get his first UFC win when he meets Marcos Rogerio de Lima. Sosoli made his debut in a now-overturned decision defeat to Greg Hardy last month.

Rogerio de Lima, on the other hand, has been alternating between wins and losses since 2015. His last outing was a submission defeat to Stefan Struve.
