Mark Zuckerberg was seated front row for UFC Vegas 61, even after Dana White said that the claims of Zuckerberg renting out the Apex were “total bullish*t”.

UFC Vegas 61 headliner Mackenzie Dern claimed that Zuckerberg was renting out the entire Apex for himself, but was unsure if it was just for him or if he was having others with him as well. The event was closed to the public for both the media and for fans as it had a pandemic event type feel to it. White shot down those claims in a tweet, saying that those claims were completely false. Was White lying? If not, why would the event be closed off to the public, when the Apex hasn’t been closed off in quite a long time.

Zuckerberg was enjoying himself, as he is an avid MMA fan. The billionaire was even there for the prelim fights, proving he’s not just a “casual” fan. Zuckerberg took up watching MMA during the pandemic and even started training as well. He was having a great time, but his wife on the other hand looked to be mortified by the violence at times. She was screaming and grabbing her face multiple times during some nasty exchanges.

Mark Zuckerberg even thanked Dana White for inviting him to the fights in an Instagram post

Zuckerberg posted a photo of him and his wife with Dern before her bout at UFC Vegas 61.

“Excited to see Mackenzie Dern fight tonight in Vegas. Thanks Dana White for inviting us!” Zuckerberg captioned the photo

Maybe the claims weren’t quite “total bullish*t”, like White alluded too.

Mackenzie Dern claims that Mark Zuckerberg is the reason why UFC Vegas 61 will be closed off to the public, as he has bought the place out for himself.

Dern is headlining the event against Yan Xiaonan, in a strawweight bout that may have future title implications. Dern was very close to receiving a title shot, but unfortunately lost to Marina Rodriguez. She got back on the winning side, as she was able to bring home a split decision win against Tecia Torres in her last fight, to put her back in the title picture. Dern is currently the fifth ranked fighter in the division, and looks to continue her success against Xiaonan.

This event will have a weird feel to it, as the Apex is closed off to fans and even the media. The media will be able to cover the official weigh-ins and media day in the days prior to the event, but the UFC decided to go back to the pandemic like feel of the Apex.

Mackenzie Dern was asked why the UFC chose to take this route

“I know Mark Zuckerberg rented out the whole event,” Dern said at Media Day. “So I know he’ll be there, but I don’t know if it’s just like literally him and his wife or if he’s gonna have friends, or if it’s just like a small party, I don’t know.”

Zuckerberg had recently released a video of him training MMA, and has shown that he is a huge MMA fan in recent months. The CEO of Meta says that he got into the UFC and MMA during the pandemic, as many new fans had. The UFC was able to capitalize on their ability to stay relevant, and was one of the only sports still putting on shows during those times.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, has recently released a video showing off his MMA ability following on from an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience.

As someone who is in control of one of the largest social media companies, it comes as no surprise that the billionaire like many of us needs a release away from the office. A follower of the sport and someone who praises the skills of these athletes Mark Zuckerberg put his techniques on display for the world to see.

Speaking to Joe Rogan, Zuckerberg reveals how his interest in the sport came about during the pandemic.

“How did I not know about it till right now?”

“Since COVID, I got super into surfing and foiling, and then really into MMA. I know a lot of people who do it. There’s actually this really interesting connection between people who surf and do jiu-jitsu.”

Mark Zuckerberg reveals his regret for not starting to train sooner in his life

Having competed within a sporting setting throughout his childhood but never anything like this Zuckerberg told Joe Rogan how he wished he had become involved from a younger age and how now he spends his time trying to convince his friends to come and join his within training at MMA gyms.

Zuckerberg has been training under BJJ/Judo black belt Dave Camarillo at his gym, Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu. Camarillo himself spent time mastering his trade under the watchful eye of Ralph Gracie and has since been passing on his knowledge to his students for over 20 years.

“My mom made me do three varsity sports and my life took a wrong turn when I chose to do fencing competitively instead of wrestling in high school or something,” he said. “There’s something so primal about it, I don’t know.”

“Since then, I’ve just introduced a bunch of my friends to it—we train together, and we like, wrestle together, and there’s a certain intensity to it that I like.”

Having felt the benefits, himself Zuckerberg implemented these sessions into his workplace offering all employees the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of grappling for free along with giving out free customized gis to entice them even further.

“There’s a lot of good parallels for philosophy of life and, like foiling and surfing, jiu-jitsu, MMA, I think it sort of teaches you about the flow and momentum of things.”(Transcribed by bloodyelbow)

Whether Mark Zuckerberg will opt to take a step further and begin competing remains to be seen. Although if he did one man who may be willing to trade blows with him is none other than UFC lightweight Paddy Pimblett who called out the social media giant owner after he was banned from Instagram.
