Daniel Cormier explains how O'Malley is playing psychological games with Merab Dvalishvili

Ahead of next month’s title fight at Noche UFC, former two-weight champion, Daniel Cormier claims it’s clear as day to see the incumbent, Sean O’Malley is playing “mind games” with his incoming foe, Merab Dvalishvili.

O’Malley, the current undisputed bantamweight gold holder, is slated to headline UFC 306 next month at the Las Vegas Sphere, taking on surging number one ranked contender, Merab Dvalishvili — in his second defense of his divisional crown.

Last time out, Montana striker, O’Malley turned in a dominant unanimous decision win over Marlon Vera — avenging his sole professional defeat in a stunning judging win over the Ecuadorian challenger.

As for Tbilisi native, Dvalishvili most recently added to his lengthy winning spree with a unanimous decision shutout win over former two-division champion and Olympic gold medal winner, Henry Cejudo.

And according to Hall of Fame inductee, Cormier, the undisputed gold holder, O’Malley is playing some major “mind games” with Georgian challenger, Merab Dvalishvili ahead of Noche UFC.

“This young man has managed to not only become a champion but to become a star,” Daniel Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “So when (Sean) O’Malley says things like that, I’m pretty sure he’s stewing. But he (Merab Dvalishvili) also has to recognize that these are the games that guys that understand fighting.”

They want to play the mind game with you, that really are like O’Malley or Conor McGregor,” Cormier explained. “Them being able to frustrate you is a win for them. Because if you get frustrated. and you start to make a mistake.”

Vowing to steal the proverbial thunder of super middleweight boxing star, Canelo Alvarez who defends his crown on the same night as his fight at the Sphere against Edgar Berlanga, O’Malley also vowed to land a stunning knockout of Dvalishvili.

“This fight, I’m feeling good as f*ck,” Sean O’Malley said. “I love this matchup. He’s got a ten fight win streak. It’s a big fight. It’s at The Sphere. It’s in competition with boxing, which is just kinda an extra little layer.

“When it comes to Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, who are they talking about?” Sean O’Malley explained. “Are they talking about Canelo? Are they talking about the boxing fight? Or are they talking about the absolute dominating, beautiful, masterful, masterclass performance that I put on Merab and the viral knockout that came with it? Or are they talking about a 36 minutes Canelo boxing fight, that was kinda fire?”

Dana White hilariously reacts to Merab Dvalishvili cutting out his own stitches with "bush shears"

Dana White thinks Merab Dvalishvili is just f*cking with him now.

Last week, White went off on Dvalishvili after the No. 1 ranked bantamweight contender posted a video online revealing a cut he sustained while training for his upcoming title tilt with reigning 135-pound champion Sean O’Malley. White called the decision “next-level stupid” in a scathing rant aimed at the UFC 306 headliner.

“Why the f*ck would you want [O’Malley] to know that?! It is next-level stupid,” White said during a media scrum following the August 20 episode of Contender Series. “Some of these guys are so stupid it’s mind-boggling. It’s unbelievable.”

Not long after White’s comments went viral, Dvalishvili posted a video of him cutting and removing the stitches himself with a pair of common household scissors.

While referencing a rather gnarly cut sustained by DWCS fighter Michael Aswell earlier in the night, White suggested that he could take a page out of Dvalishvili’s book by getting “some big ass scissors and take the stitches out himself.” Clearly referring to the Georgian, media members took the bait and asked White for his thoughts on Dvalishvili’s latest video.

“Isn’t he awesome? I think he’s just f*cking with me now, to be honest with you,” White said with a smirk. “Have you ever seen the scissors they take stitches out with? Their tiny and they have that thing on their so you don’t cut yourself. They can slide them up under the stitches and this dude had f*cking bush shears that he was using…that you trim your f*cking bushes with. Whatever, good for him.”

White also confirmed that he has not spoken with Dvalishvili since ‘The Machine’ first revealed his cut to the world on social media.

Merab Dvalishvili’s Cut Shouldn’t Impact His Fight with O’Malley

Fortunately, it appears that Merab Dvalishvili’s “small cut” will not affect his ability to headline Noche UFC in a few short weeks.

Going into his first title opportunity, ‘The Machine’ is riding a 10-fight win streak that features noteworthy victories against the likes of Jose Aldo, Petr Yan, and Henry Cejudo.

As for his opponent, it will be O’Malley’s second time defending the bantamweight belt after handing Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera a five-round shellacking during their UFC 299 headliner last March.

Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili will fight for the UFC bantamweight championship on September 14, 2024, at the Sphere, Nevada. While the champion is already one of the most popular MMA fighters out there, Dvalishvili has all the hype around him due to his ten-fight win streak in the UFC.

Both O’Malley and Dvalishvili have defeated former UFC bantamweight champ Petr Yan. “Suga” knocked out Aljamain Sterling for the title after that win, while “The Machine” defeated another former champ Henry Cejudo.

Despite their evenly matched resumes and countering fighting styles, Tim Welch has explained why O’Malley will defeat Dvalishvili at Riyadh Season Noche UFC…

Tim Welch Reveals Why It Is Hard To Train For Sean O’Malley And What Makes Merab Dvalishvili An Intimidating Opponent

O’Malley’s coach Welch reviewed Dvalishvili’s latest training footage and other antics on his official YouTube channel recently. He pointed out that “The Machine” is a tough opponent due to his relentless pace, level changes, and cardio.

However, he could not help but notice how Dvalishvili can be hit while shooting for takedowns. On top of that, he loses balance when he punches going forward making him extremely vulnerable against an accurate striker like O’Malley.

“Loses balance a little bit on the punches. Falls forward and that’s something that definitely could get him in trouble here and it’s too close to the fight now to fix. Really lunging in here, throwing the overhand right, bringing his back foot with him which is another thing that could get you in trouble. You saw it with Aljo.”

Welch believes that “The Machine” cannot improve his balance in the coming weeks, and the UFC bantamweight champion will capitalize on it. The Sterling fight is a good example of “Suga” catching opponents as they lunge towards him.

According to the coach, it is hard to find training partners who can properly replicate O’Malley’s style during sparring. This should be another key factor in the favor of the champ.

“I’m thankful that I’m not having to be a trainer training someone against sugar because it would just be so hard to find sparring partners that can do anything remotely close to him. And then you find sparring partners that try to mimic him. They do their best at mimicking him.”

Although Welch is confident about O’Malley winning via knockout, he explained why Dvalishvili is not an easy opponent at all. He breathes through his mouth for long durations without any impact on his pace. He can take quite a few shots as well so “Suga” must be prepared for the challenger forcing takedowns on him.

“Merab doesn’t even like, control his breath. He doesn’t even think about controlling his breath. He just, he’ll just breathe in, he’ll be mouth breathing the whole time and he’ll be able to keep up the pace. That’s one thing that’s scary about him. He’ll be able to just keep up the pace the whole time. Just at that, frantic breathing, frantic pace, that’s one of the things that make him really dangerous.”

Speaking to UFC veteran Vince Morales, a training partner of Merab Dvalishvili, he explained that he will be too much for Sean O’Malley. At UFC 306, we are likely to see a new UFC world champion in the bantamweight division.

Merab Dvalishvili Drowns Sean O’Malley

Sean O’Malley is the current UFC bantamweight world champion. The US-born athlete captured the title with an impressive knockout against Aljamain Sterling and then defended this crown, avenging a prior loss, against Marlon ‘Chiro’ Vera. At UFC 306 on September 14, O’Malley looks to defend his UFC throne against the relentless Merab Dvalishvili.

The Machine’ Merab Dvalishvili truly lives up to his name as he constantly has non-stop pressure in the octagon. The Georgian athlete has a background in Sambo, Judo, and traditional wrestling. On August 30, he will fight for the UFL world title against Hunter Azure. Morales and Dvalishvili training with each other has been invaluable as they have title matches within just a few weeks.

In an exclusive conversation with LowKickMMA, Vince Morales offered a prediction for the UFC 306 title match between Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O’Malley. He said:

“I think in the championship rounds, like the fourth round, Merab will have O’Malley drowning and looking for a way out. The first couple of rounds will be tense, but Merab will handle it. I picture O’Malley looking for a way out towards the end.”

At UFL 5, Vince Morales will seek the bantamweight title on August 30. While his training partner Merab Dvalishvili looks to take the UFC bantamweight championship against Sean O’Malley at UFC 306 on September 14.

At United Fight League 5, ‘Vandetta’ Vince Morales will face Hunter Azure with the bantamweight world title on the line, this match is booked for August 30. To help get ready, ‘The Machine‘ Merab Dvalishvili has been working with Morales to sharpen their respective skills. Dvalishvili is set to take on Sean O’Malley for the UFC bantamweight title at UFC 306 in just a few weeks.

Merab Dvalishvili is known for his relentless pace in the octagon. Against Petr Yan and Henry Cejudo, Dvalishvili lived up to his moniker ‘The Machine’ as he never stopped working for takedowns and was constantly aggressive.

Vince Morales spoke to LowKick MMA in an exclusive interview and explained what it’s like training with Merab Dvalishvili as they both prep for world title matches. He said:

“[He is] Exactly what you would expect after watching him fight—nonstop. He laughs a little more than he does in the fight. He’s a goer. We get a lot of good work in together. He’s one of my favorite training partners. We know it’s going to be a tough day, and we get in there and scrap. Thankfully, I only have him for three rounds at a time.

“I don’t know how he does it. I think it’s all mental. His mind is set on effort, and being tired doesn’t deter him. He gets tired, gets excited, and handles it. Everything he does is full of effort and intent. Even if he doesn’t get a takedown or throws the best punch, he meant to do it and put in full effort. That makes all the difference.”

Morales has remained unbeaten and put together an impressive four-fight win streak since stepping away from the UFC. With multiple world titles on the line, the Syndicate MMA gym is entering the gold season. Vince Morales added:

“We’re gearing up for the Syndicate Gold Rush. On August 30th, I’ve got Hunter Azure for the title, and then we’ve got Merab for the belt. Khalil is fighting Alex Pereira. So yeah, the Syndicate Gold Rush begins next week.”

Sean O’Malley says Merab Dvalishvili will not be able to wrestle: 'I can knock anybody out'

Ahead of his undisputed bantamweight title fight against number one contender, Merab Dvalishvili at Noche UFC next month, divisional champion, Sean O’Malley has his doubts that the Georgian will be able to impose his wrestling-heavy tactics against him — warning the challenger he has the ability to knock anybody out.

O’Malley, the current undisputed bantamweight champion, looks to defend his divisional crown next month for the second time, following a prior unanimous decision shutout win against Marlon Vera back in March in the main event of UFC 299.

As for Dvalishvili, the Tbilisi native featured most recently on the main card of UFC 298 back in February against former two-division champion, Henry Cejudo, landing a one-sided unanimous judging win over the Olympic gold medal winner.

Sean O’Malley predicts knockout win over Merab Dvalishvili

Sharing a distinct rivalry with Dvalishvili — who suffered a nasty laceration over his eye ahead of his fight with the Montana striker next month, O’Malley — who urged him not to withdraw from the Las Vegas Sphere card, vowed to knock him out if he tried to wrestle him as with prior opposition.

“Styles — I know I can knock anybody out,” Sean O’Malley told ESPN during a recent interview. “I just believe he (Merab Dvalishvili) is going to. It only takes one mistake. Aljo (Aljamain Sterling) made a mistake, got his lights put out. Chito (Marlon Vera), wasn’t able to put his lights out, very, very tough dude, but I was able to find his chin quite a bit.

“I believe if I find Merab’s chin the way I was finding Chito’s, the way I found Aljo’s chin, I’m going to get him out of there,” Sean O’Malley continued.

Winning his crown back in August of last year, O’Malley felled Dvalishvili’s close friend and training partner, Aljamain Sterling with a stunning second round knockout win in Boston, Massachusetts.
