Jimmo Re-Signs with MFCRematch between light heavyweight rivals tabbed as Conquer co-main event
A second spectacular title fight will be featured on the stacked lineup for MFC 29: Conquer.

Press Release – (10 Mar 2011): Just six weeks after claiming the MFC world light heavyweight title, newly crowned champion Ryan “The Big Deal” Jimmo will defend his belt against former champ Emanuel “The Hardcore Kid” Newton in the co-main event of the show slated for Friday, April 8 at The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor. The bout is subject to OAC approval.

This title fight joins the scheduled battle between defending MFC world welterweight champ Douglas “The Phenom” Lima and “Dangerous” Terry Martin which tops the bill of the S.L. Feldman’s & Associates presented card airing live on HDNet Fights.

The Jimmo-Newton clash will be a rematch between the two combatants. They originally squared-off at MFC 23 with Jimmo taking a unanimous decision.

Jimmo (14-1), who also re-signed a new multi-fight contract, captured the organization’s 205-pound title at MFC 28 by topping Dwayne Lewis midway through the third round via a doctor’s stoppage TKO. It was the 14th consecutive victory for the Halifax, Nova Scotia, product who now fights out of Edmonton, Alberta. Jimmo’s resume, which boasts six knockouts and two submissions, holds career wins over Wilson Gouveia, Marvin Eastman, and Jesse Forbes.

Newton (14-6-1) was also successful on the same night as he returned to the MFC in dramatic fashion with a second-round submission win via rear-naked choke over Rodney Wallace.

The Long Beach, California, native, who racked up an 11-fight unbeaten streak over a three-year period earlier in his career, claimed the light heavyweight crown at MFC 19 with a convincing decision win over Roger Hollett. But Newton’s reign was a short one as he dropped the title in his lone defense, falling in a five-round affair to Trevor Prangley at MFC 21.

Newton’s career log boasts two wins coming by way of knockout and five via submission. Along the way, Newton has defeated the likes of David Heath and Kyacey Uscola.

Marcus Davis Looking Forward To New Beginning With The Maximum Fighting Championship

Marcus_DavisThe “Irish Hand Grenade” Marcus Davis (17-8) was handed his walking papers by the Ultimate Fighting Championship after a third round knockout by Jeremy Stephens at UFC 125 last January. It was his second straight loss and his fourth in five bouts.

Davis had dropped to lightweight for the fight with Stephens, after a career at 170 lbs, and plans on staying at that weight now that he’s signed with the Maximum Fighting Championship. He’s set to make his debut in April for the promotion against a younger fighter in Curtis “The Demon” Demarce (10-8), who fought last month at MFC 28 in a three round slugfest with former “TUF 9″ cast member Richie Whitson.

In a recent two part interview with Tapology.com, Davis talked about what he’ll be bringing to the Canadian MFC promotion and how he feels this is “new beginning of a new career” for him.

“I think what’s going to surprise everybody is that I don’t stand still,” Davis said. “I’m not going to stand in front of anybody. I’ll always have an outside angle when I attack. Being a southpaw, I excel at counter-punching, but I’m also not going to let anybody in MFC dictate the pace. That comes with a lot of experience. It takes a long time to get to where I am. If I took my amateur boxing career, my amateur kickboxing career, my amateur MMA career, and now my professional careers, I’ve had well over 100 fights. Out of all of those, I’ve lost less than 15 fights.”

“I’m looking at this as a new beginning of a new career,” Davis said. “I now have a blank piece of paper and I’m going to draw exactly what I want with my new career. I’m going to take it one fight at a time. Some people look at getting cut from the UFC as their life being over. I’m looking at it like it’s just the beginning. I have a lot to be thankful for.”

Richie WhitsonPress Release – March 02, 2011: Team Quest fighter Richie “Hell Boy” Whitson made an impressive showing over the weekend at MFC 28 during his bout against Curtis “The Demon” Demarce. Whitson ended his opponent’s seven fight win streak and clinched his fifth straight win with a split decision victory. MFC 28: Supremacy took place on February 25, 2011 in Enoch, Alberta Canada.

Richie “Hell Boy” Whitson (11-1-0) is a well-rounded fighter who is as good on the ground as he is on his feet, with a record stacked with KO’s and submissions to prove it. Whitson’s impressive MFC 28 win did not come easy, as he encountered several setbacks along the way.

Three weeks prior to his recent MFC 28 bout, Whitson suffered an injury during training. The injury prevented the Team Quest fighter from straightening his arm, limiting his training to pad work and conditioning for the last few weeks leading up to the fight. To add insult to injury, Whitson’s original opponent, Cajon Johnson, had to withdraw from the fight two weeks prior the event, forcing Whitson to adjust his game plan and face a new contender.

Despite setbacks, including an injury to his lead arm that rendered his jab ineffective and a gash above his left eye inflicted early in the first round, Whitson pulled out a split decision victory. The explosive lightweight battle also earned fight of the night bragging rights. Whitson plans to go undefeated in 2011 and has his sights on facing the winner of Davis vs. Johnson.

Richie “Hell Boy” Whitson had this to say, “It was a tough fight, Demarce is a notable opponent and I’m very happy with the win. As for my next bout, I would really like to face the winner of Marcus Davis vs. Kajan Johnson. I feel that I’ve earned it and would welcome the opportunity.”

As a result of his pre-fight training injury, Whitson is heading back to his hometown of Sitka, Alaska to have surgery on his elbow. He expects a short recovery and is looking forward to getting back into the ring as soon as possible.

According to Whitson, “I’m heading home to Alaska this week to have elbow surgery, but it’s just a minor setback. I’ll be back in the ring soon and stronger than ever. I want to thank the coaches at Team Quest and my friends and family for their support. I wouldn’t be where I’m at in my career without them.”

Richie “Hell Boy” Whitson trains out of the Team Quest Training Center in Temecula, California alongside top contenders such as Dan Henderson and Tarec Saffiedine. The world-renowned Team Quest coaching staff is among the best in the industry. For more information on Team Quest and their fighters, please visit www.teamquestmma.com.
