Former interim UFC lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier has revealed the reasoning for his notable verbal altercation with one-time vacant title chaser, Michael Chandler at UFC 276 earlier this month during International Fight Week – detailing how he wanted to confront the Missouri veteran.

Poirier, a former interim UFC lightweight champion, headlined UFC 269 back in December of last year, unsuccessfully prying the undisputed crown from former champion and common-foe, Charles Oliveira.

As for Chandler, the Kill Cliff FC trainee featured on the main card of UFC 274 back in May, rebounding from a first round defeat on three judge’s scorecards, to stop the veteran, Tony Ferguson with a brutal second round front kick knockout.

In the time since, as Oliveira prepares to likely land a vacant title fight against Islam Makhachev next, Poirier and Chandler have been linked to a title-eliminator before the close of the year.

As both remain receptive to a potential fight in the future, Poirier engaged in a verbal back-and-forth with the former Bellator star at UFC 276 earlier this month, forcing officials and security to intervene.

Dustin Poirier has retained a rather frosty relationship with Michael Chandler

Commenting on his fracas with Chandler, Dustin Poirier maintained that he wanted to say something to the former, and intended on confronting him.

“If I have something to say, I’m going to say it when the person’s present,” Dustin Poirier said of his altercation with Michael Chandler during an appearance on DC & RC. “That’s what you saw right there. I had something to say to him. And I got it off my chest. Told him (Michael Chandler) what I felt about him. And that’s it.”

While Chandler has yet to openly discuss his altercation with Poirier, the #5 ranked contender has offered to face the aforenoted, Makhachev in a vacant lightweight title next – if Oliveira prefers to chase a much-rumored fight against former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor.

Michael Chandler brought out his entertainment chops to perform “Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears.

Former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler is coming off a win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 274. “Iron” Mike became the first man to ever knockout “El Cucuy”, a feat he accomplished with a deadly front kick to the face. As if his historic victory wasn’t enough, Chandler doubled down on his performance with an electrifying promo.

It appears that Chandler had another trick up his sleeve he did not showcase in MMA.

Michael Chandler channels his inner Britney Spears to perform “Baby One More Time”

Taking to his Instagram, Michael Chandler shared a video of his appearance at The Masked Singer Live TV show. The show is a top-secret singing competition featuring celebrities such as Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, Nick Cannon, and more. These superstars face off against each other anonymously, well for a brief period.

Following suit with the protocol of the show, the 36-year-old Missouri native dressed up in an elaborate costume with a full face mask to hide his identity.

Chandler appears to be dressed in a techy outfit that resembles a fancy cassette tape, a media format replaced by CDs decades ago. He’s also wearing an oversized mask but what sealed the deal was his personal rendition of “Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears.

The man’s not just fighting, he’s also singing, and he’s not only singing, but he’s also dancing and performing like a true entertainer. Towards the end of his show, singer Natasha Bedingfield unveiled his identity to a raging crowd at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. While he did receive a favorable reception, it would’ve been wilder had it been at a UFC event.

This past weekend, another clip of “Iron” Mike did rounds online. During the mentioned electrifying promo, Chandler called out multiple people except for Dustin Poirier, one notable name who took issue with it and confronted Chandler at UFC 276 in the saga of their growing beef.

Finding himself on the receiving end of a rather surprising call out from recent big-winner, one-time title challenger, Michael Chandler, streaking lightweight contender, Islam Makhachev has welcomed the opportunity to face the Missouri native in a vacant championship fight next.

Islam Makhachev, who has landed a whopping 10 consecutive victories at 155lbs – just one shy from former undisputed champion, Charles Oliveira’s current division record of 11, has been linked to a vacant title fight since the championship became void back in May.

The American Kickboxing Academy staple headlined a UFC Vegas 49 event back in February against short-notice replacement, Bobby Green, with the #4 ranked contender turning in a rather one-sided first round TKO win after a series of ground strikes.

As for Chandler, the Kill Cliff FC mainstay featured on the main card of UFC 274 back in May, stopping former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson with a devastating second round, front kick knockout after giving up the first frame.

With the lightweight title up for grabs for top contenders, Oliveira has weighed up fighting the likes of Makhachev and former two-weight gold holder, Conor McGregor next in a vacant title fight, however, significant movement on each fight has yet to occur.

With the semi-log jam at 155lbs, Chandler offered to fight Islam Makhachev next for vacant spoils, urging Oliveira to chase his “so-called superfight” against McGregor instead.

“Hey, Charles (Oliveira), do your thing, bro,” Michael Chandler posted on his Instagram story. “Wait till Conor (McGregor) comes back, you deserve it. On a couple fight win streak, smashing through everybody. Why don’t you sit out? Wait for Conor to come back, I’ll keep the division warm, I’ll keep the division going. I’ll fight Islam (Makhachev) next – I’ll fight Islam for the title.”

“And then whenever you get your so-called ‘superfight’, do your thing, get it out of your system, then you can come back to our division. See you at the top.”

Islam Makhachev welcomes the chance to fight Michael Chandler for vacant gold

Responding to Chandler’s call out, Makhachev welcomed the opportunity to face the veteran lightweight staple, insisting that the fight would land him “easy money”.

“Easy money…” Islam Makhachev tweeted in response to Michael Chandler. “Title is the goal, no matter who. Let’s go. @MikeChandlerMMA @ufc.”

Enjoying a thoroughly roughshod run akin to Oliveira, the division standouts have been continually linked to a potential vacant title offing next, in the form of a championship clash in the promotion’s rumored January return to the former’s native Brazil.
