Michael Page’s win at Bellator Japan was not like his usual ones.

That’s because he usually showboats during and after his wins. Whether it’s throwing a Pokeball at his downed opponent or dancing, “MVP” loves to put on a show.

It usually rubs people the wrong way as well, especially given the criticism aimed at him and his level of opponents.

But when he knocked out Shinsho Anzai on Saturday, there was none of that. That’s because he made sure to respect the environment he was in with respect being a key component in Japanese mixed martial arts:

“I’m very aware of my surroundings,” Page told media after the fight (via MMA Junkie). “You’ve got to read the crowd. You’ve got to read the moment. For me, just coming over here brought back some old-school memories of my martial arts youth days and having to bow for everything. … It was nice to switch off.”

While there were no antics, Page certainly delivered when it came to the fight. Even if it did take some time for him to eventually land the second-round knockout:

“He was playing a little bit awkward – really closed,” Page added. “He wasn’t really opening up very much, but still applying pressure, so it took me a little bit longer to find out exactly the range and what I wanted to do.

“Then, I started to open up more a little bit myself in the second round. That’s when I was like, ‘Yeah, it’s game over.’ I hit him with a shot, and he went down.”

Page will look to challenge for Douglas Lima’s welterweight title next. However, it appears he may need more wins and even higher-level opponents if he is to get his rematch with Lima.

Bellator president Scott Coker also seems to prefer Lorenz Larkin for the next title shot. Regardless, it’s a fight that will eventually happen according to Page:

“He’s kind of now not interested,” Page said of Lima. “There’s talks of him going up. It feels like he’s trying distance himself as much as possible. Everybody else is what it is. I’m just going to keep fighting until he can’t get away from me. I will get that back.”

Bellator president Scott Coker believes Lorenz Larkin is next in line for Douglas Lima.

Larkin made it four wins in a row following his unanimous decision win over Keita Nakamura at Bellator Japan on Saturday. Michael Page, meanwhile, also competed on the card as he made it three wins in a row following his knockout of Shinsho Anzai.

Both fighters have campaigned to get the next welterweight title shot at Lima but it’s Larkin who will probably win the race according to Coker:

“To me, I think the fight that we would like to see is Lorenz fight Lima, because he hasn’t fought him before,” Coker said (via MMA Junkie). “But I’d also like to see Lorenz fight ‘MVP,’ too. So, we’ll see. We’re going to mix it up and have some fun with that weight class.”

Lima notably handed Page his first-ever career loss when he knocked him out en route to regaining the Bellator welterweight title. The Brazilian also believes “MVP” needs a step up in competition before thinking of a rematch.

As for Larkin, he is yet to face Lima and although he notably missed weight against Nakamura, Coker is willing to give him a pass:

“We can look past that,” Coker added. “He came a long way and it’s not an easy task. I think that the flight, the trip, it’s just a different environment. I think in the timeframe that was different, that had a lot to do with it.

“The guy has fought – I don’t know his record offhand – but I think in 24 fights he has never missed weight. So we’ve got to give him a pass for that one.”

Do you think Larkin deserves the next shot?

Page took on Shinsho Anzai in a 173-pound catchweight fight. “Venom” put on a striking clinic, hurting Anzai badly in the first round, but not pulling off the finish. However, the second round was a very different story. Page connected with one big punch on an already damaged Anzai that stopped the fight dead in its tracks.

The referee stepped in to call off the action and Page once again left the cage with another knockout victory. You can check out the finish here below.

Douglas Lima doesn’t seem too impressed with Michael Page’s resume. However, Page thinks, if he continues his winning ways, the welterweight champ won’t be able to deny him another shot at beating him.

Page, who faces UFC veteran Shinsho Anzai this Saturday in Japan at Bellator 237, spoke to MMA Junkie on the matter recently. “Venom” plans to continue racking up victories until Lima can no longer deny him.

“Douglas Lima was speaking about me and said he’s never fought anybody as fast as me before and is excited and is looking forward to having that rematch,” Page said. “The second I won, he’s like, ‘Nah, you have to fight some more people.’

“He was like, ‘Nah, I’m not even letting you come back that quick,’ so, it’s going to happen either way. There’s going to be a point where he’s not going to be able to stop it, and like I said, if I keep doing what I’m doing now, stay active, stay busy, keep beating people, then 100 percent he can’t stop it.”

Lima and Page met in the semifinals of the Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix Tournament earlier this year. During the fight, Page was knocked out in the second round, suffering the only loss of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. Now, after back-to-back wins since the loss, both coming by way of a knockout, Page has his eyes set on a rematch with Lima.

Of course, he’ll likely need to get through a few more fights before earning such an opportunity.

What do you think about Page claiming Lima can’t deny him a rematch if he keeps winning?
