Paige VanZant is eyeing a rematch with Michelle Waterson in December if the Joanna Jedrzejczyk fight does not happen.

It was reported on Wednesday that the former UFC champion was struggling cutting weight and the fight may be off. The UFC proposed a catchweight bout to Waterson who said she was not interested. The Las Vegas-based promotion then said she would Jessica Andrade at UFC 244, while Jedrzejczyk would fight Angela Hill.

Yet, it appears that won’t happen, as Joanna Jedrzejczyk has said she will cut the weight. But, if she misses, Paige VanZant has said she is available to fight Waterson.

“Hey @Ufc if Michelle doesn’t have a fight I’ll make 115 and fight her December 14th!!!!,” Paige VanZant wrote.

Paige VanZant last fought back in Brooklyn in January where she submitted Rachael Ostovich. The win snapped her two-fight losing streak with losses to Waterson and Jessica Rose-Clark. She has currently been dealing with rehabbing her broken arm and the surgery for it.

VanZant and Waterson fought back in December of 2016 in the main event of UFC on Fox 22 in Sacramento. There, ‘The Karate Hottie’ won by first-round submission via rear-naked choke. Since the win, Waterson has climbed up the strawweight rankings while VanZant went up to flyweight.

It is interesting to see Paige VanZant call for the fight at 115 which means she may very well be moving down to strawweight. She has said she is open to cutting back down but did not have a definitive answer. She also only has one fight left on her UFC contract where she plans on testing free agency after that.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s upcoming fight with Michelle Waterson is still taking place as planned, at least according to the former champion.

Jedrzejczyk meets Waterson in a strawweight headliner at UFC Tampa this Saturday. However, recent reports suggested the fight was in jeopardy as Jedrzejczyk reportedly informed the UFC a couple of days ago that she would unable to make the 116-pound weight limit.

The report added that Waterson was offered the opportunity to fight the Pole at a catchweight, only for it to be declined. This led to speculation that Jedrzejczyk may be replaced with a different opponent.

However, the former strawweight queen provided an update on Wednesday. She also posted a picture of herself smiling as she was cutting weight, seemingly implying that the fight is still on:

???? #staycalm #everythingisfine ? @oshee_world ?? #ufctampa #fightweek #oshee,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

Jedrzejczyk has never missed weight before, but has notably struggled with the cut to 115 especially when she was the champion. This will also be her first fight in the division since losing her rematch to Rose Namajunas back in April 2018.

Do you think Jedrzejczyk will make the weight? Or will we get a different main event?

It looks like this weekend’s UFC Tampa women’s strawweight main event between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Michelle Waterson is in jeopardy. ESPN has confirmed an initial report by Combate, suggesting Jedrzejczyk informed the UFC several days ago that she will be unable to make the strawweight limit of 116 pounds.

The UFC reportedly offered Waterson the opportunity to fight Jedrzejczyk at an agreed-upon catchweight, however, the Waterson camp declined the offer. If Jedrzejczyk misses weight, and the fight proceeds, the former champ will be forced to pay 30 percent of her purse to Waterson, per the Florida State Boxing Commission.

Another suggestion that was made was for the UFC to pay Jedrzejczyk’s fine since she informed the promotion of her weight struggles in advance. But the UFC has declined that idea as well. There have been talks about replacing Jedrzejczyk with a different opponent, but the UFC is considering canceling the fight altogether, bumping up Kron Gracie vs. Cub Swanson to the main event as a result.

Other options include moving the fight to a November card, or having Waterson fight Jessica Andrade at UFC 244 on November 2. No final decision on the matter has been made as of this writing.

What do you think of the fight between Jedrzejczyk and Waterson possibly falling through?
