After almost twenty years with the UFC, Mike Goldberg got his walking papers. The rumors of his departure from the world’s largest MMA promotion began just days before the UFC 2017 pay-per-view event and then later confirmed by UFC President Dana White during a media scrum two days before the event. White stated that he has someone in mind to replace Goldberg but that he would not be able to sign him until July, which is several months away.

Goldberg and Joe Rogan have been a staple of the UFC as their broadcasting team for years. They have covered all of the big fights that the UFC has to offer. While Goldberg has done a great job, he has made some mistakes while on the air. However, with such a long tenure with the company and doing a good job one would have to think that he had job security for a long period of time. That would have been true if the old management at Zuffa had not sold for four billion dollars this past summer. Since then, the UFC has made some big changes within its personnel, and Goldberg, who only covered PPV events as well as big FOX events is no longer with the company as his last event was UFC 207. He didn’t get a send-off or a good luck in your future endeavors but that is just the broadcasting business.

On Friday, Goldberg took to his official Twitter account to issue a statement on his UFC departure:

“I wish I could respond to every single fan, fighter and member of the media who reached out and showed their support, gratitude, and appreciation,” Goldberg posted. “It has been overwhelming and so gratifying! Thank you!!

“Every single UFC, from Ultimate Japan to UFC 207, my primary focus has been on just 2 things! First, to bring passion, energy and raw emotion to our fans around the world, dedicated, diehard fans like none other! Second, to properly represent each and every fighter, from UFC newcomer to veterans with 20 plus Octagon battles, our fighters work so hard and sacrifice so much it was my responsibility to properly prepare and tell their stories!! And just for the record, I still believe that Anderson Silva’s Precision is Precise.”

Goldberg has not made an announcement of what may be next for him professionally. One would have to think that he might get a job with Bellator, WSOF or other MMA promotions.

For 19 years, Mike Goldberg was the voice of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). With the amount of work he has put in during that time, many fans were bothered by the fact that he wasn’t given a send off at the end of UFC 207’s broadcast. Goldberg said a few parting words during the credits, but the pay-per-view (PPV) went off the air just as any UFC event would.

Goldberg issued a statement on his Twitter account to show his appreciation for fans and supporters. He even threw some fun jabs at himself:

“I wish I could respond to every single fan, fighter and member of the media who reached out and showed their support, gratitude and appreciation! It has been overwhelming and so gratifying! Thank you!!

Tommy Toe Hold, that video was hilarious!

And just for the record, I still believe that Anderson Silva’s precision is precise!”

The UFC has yet to announce a replacement for Goldberg. At his UFC 207 scrum, UFC President Dana White confirmed that he knew who he wanted to fill Goldberg’s shoes, but it’s a matter of timing. White is hoping to get that the new permanent play-by-play commentator sometime in the Summer.

When asked why Goldberg is no longer with the UFC, White didn’t go into details. Instead he told the media, “When these kind of things happen, I’d rather not talk about it. If Mike wants to talk about it, ask Mike.”

Todd Grisham Joins The UFC Broadcasting Team…How Do We Feel About This?

“It’s All Over!”

Now that UFC 207 has come and gone, there are somethings that have been left in it’s wake. For one, the possible retirement of Ronda Rousey. Secondly, the emergence of Cody Garbrandt. And thirdly, the bittersweet “so long” of 19 year cage side announcer Mike Goldberg.

While he wasn’t exactly a vast array of MMA knowledge, he certainly bought Charisma to the cage and when you heard that voice, you knew it was about to go down!

But with the end of one thing brings the beginning of something new, and while we expect newest member of the UFC broadcasting team Todd Grisham to Butcher Joanna  Jedrzejczyk’s ( /yo-an-nahyen-jrey-chik/) name a couple of times, I for one am excited about the MMA newbie. And here’s why.

Exhibit A: He can take a superkick to the mouth

For those of you who don’t know much about Grisham, he was a broadcaster and personality for the WWE from 2204-2011, taking his share of bumps along the way. In the video above he plays a pretty good straight man to rowdy antics of “sexy boy” Shawn Michaels. Gotta respect a guy who can take a good superkick to the mouth and still have the wherewithal to read a teleprompter.

Exhibit B: He use to work for ESPN

After parting ways with the WWE network in 2011, Grisham has been working as in studio host to Friday Night Fights as well as SportCenter Anchor. This means that not only does he bring a certain level of professionalism, he’s a fan of all combat sports who’s use to doing his research.

Exhibit C: Joe Rogan and Kenny Florian

While he may not be the most knowledgeable in MMA, that’s what Joe Rogan and Kenny Florian are for. Let them break down every grappling sequence to a sweet science, sometimes MMA fans, like girls, just wanna have fun!

In all seriousness, it seems like we’re getting a real professional with a personality to boot. A true fan of combat sports who’s not afraid to walk on the wild side. While the learning curb will be steep, all in all this could be a good direction for the UFC.

For those of you who just can’t get enough of Mike Goldberg,We’ve found a video that compiled some of his biggest blunders all in one foul swoop. You know like the time he compared Mike Tyson to the great fighter “George Holmes”…? Exactly.

“One of the most talented fighters to ever enter the octagon is B.J. Penn, the pra-gidy.”

“His precision is ugh,…really precise”

“CB Dollaway makes a bad decision, and now he gets a second chance tonight, to earn a victory against CB Dollaway.”

“There is twin brother Mark, working with equally aged twin brother Matt…” – Mike Goldberg

What do you guys think of the new switch? Have the WME-IMG finally done something right?

According to a report from MMAFighting.com, the UFC has hired former ESPN and WWE reporter and broadcaster Todd Grisham. Grisham is a veteran in the field and will make his UFC debut on the studio desk at UFC Fight Night 103, which is set to take place on Jan. 15, 2016 from Phoenix, Arizona. The card will be headlined by a featherweight bout between rising prospect Yair Rodriguez and legendary former two-division champion BJ Penn.

In addition to working on the studio desk, Grisham will also have his hand at play-by-play for fights. Interestingly enough, the report indicated that Grisham was not hired to replace longtime commentator Mike Goldberg, who called his last night of fights last Friday (Dec. 30, 2016) at UFC 207 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Grisham has spent the last six years working for ESPN, but prior to that he had served as a host for WWE for seven years. In addition, Grisham also has experience in combat sports, as he serves as a commentator and interviewer for Glory Kickboxing.

As far as a replacement for Goldberg goes, notable sports radio talk show host Jim Rome has been rumored to be in the running for the position, but nothing has been confirmed by the promotion just yet.

Goldberg’s Son Goes Off On UFC For Disrespecting His Father

Leading up to this past weekend’s (Friday December 30, 2016) epic UFC 207 pay-per-view (PPV) event it was well-known that it would be longtime UFC commentator Mike Goldberg’s last event with the UFC.

Despite this it took many by surprise that the longtime voice of the promotion didn’t get a proper goodbye before, during, or after the program, with the exception of ‘Goldie’ mentioning that he and the UFC production crew would always be family. That moment, however, came after many had already turned off their TV sets.

This rubbed ‘Goldie’s’ son, Kole Goldberg, the wrong way as he would take to his Twitter account to put the UFC on blast for not giving his father a proper goodbye from the promotion after the 20 years of work he’d put in for them:

The removal of Goldberg from the Octagon-side commentary desk had been long rumored throughout the year, with UFC President Dana White confirming the news just days before the UFC 207 PPV. The rumor mill suggests that radio show host Jim Rome is set to replace Goldberg alongside Joe Rogan, but nothing has been confirmed as of this writing.

What are your thoughts? Did the UFC get it wrong by not giving Goldberg some type of tribute or dedication during this past weekend’s PPV event? Or was the story of the event, in regards to former bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey’s return, too big to shine focus on anything else?
