Mike Perry and Julian Lane will be settling their beef at the February 19 Knucklemania event in Hollywood, Florida.

Tuesday, MMA reporter Chris Taylor first broke the news of this upcoming scrap, and it has since been confirmed by multiple sources. This announcement comes after Lane was unwilling to take no for an answer after challenging Perry to a fight earlier this year.

How This Odd Pairing Came Together

In October, Mike Perry announced that he would be joining the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship ranks. Here’s some of what Perry had to say in the official press release that announced his arrival:

“I will dismantle the opposition and reach the glory I have longed for my entire life. I will be crowned king of the streets and king of combat sports! They will make me a Platinum Crown and carry me on the bloody backs of my defeated rivals! I am here to go straight to the top and make anyone think twice about entering my world! BKFC is my world!”

Within hours of this announcement, former Ultimate Fighter contest Julian Lane, aka the ‘Let me bang, bro’ guy of MMA lore, volunteered to be the first man to “oppose” Perry in the BKFC. Unfortunately, Lane’s desire to bang was rebuffed, just like long times.

At BKFC Tampa last month, Perry made an appearance to do some commentary. However, he was being harassed by Lane, who was throwing material at Perry from the audience. This led to Perry exiting the commentating table to confront him.

Here is a glimpse of what happened when the two came face to face.

Now, we know that this brawl will spill into the ring next month.

Lane is 3-4 in bare-knuckle boxing and had been booked against Kaleb Harris on January 29 prior to this switch-up. Meanwhile, Perry recently defeated experienced boxer Michael Seals at Triller’s Triad Combat in November.

Mike Perry got off to a great start to life outside the UFC last night.

‘Platinum’ picked up a split decision win over professional boxer Michael Seals (25-4) at Triller’s Triad Combat, an event that pitted MMA fighters against boxers in a triangular ring.

The 15-fight UFC veteran was the busier man throughout the fight that really could’ve gone either way. Perry survived a fourth-round knockdown to see the final bell and get his hand raised.

During a post-fight interview with MMA Junkie, Perry explained why he was a worthy winner at Triad Combat.

“I deserved the to win because he stands tall and he fights in boxing stance,” Perry said. “The sport is different and we’ve got the meet in the middle. I traded with him and I brought the fight to him. That’s why they gave me the dub, because he sat back to patiently, and I’m the one who put myself in danger to get the shots in.”

Mike Perry Scored A Much Needed Win At Triad Combat

After losing seven of his last 10 UFC fights, Perry was in desperate need of a win to prove he is a valuable asset to bidding combat sports promotions. Now that he’s back in the win column, Perry is feeling confident about his fighting future.

“Look at the ceiling in here, bro,” Perry said. “The sky is the limit. My son was here, I got the dub tonight. … I’m just grateful man. I’m so humbled. I’m blessed. There’s a lot of people hating and I thought about the speeches I would give after the fight, and I don’t have nothing bad to say to the haters because I only want to talk to my fans and I’m grateful for all their support.”

Former UFC fighter Mike Perry looked to continue the dominant night that team MMA was having over team boxing against Michael Seals. Perry pushed the action with a very aggressive pace in the first couple minutes of the fight. Perry worked the clinch very nicely to start off the fight as well. Perry continued to work the clinch and push the pace in the first couple rounds, while Seals tried to find his range and counter strike the aggressive Perry.

In the middle rounds, Perry still pushed the pace while Seals kept his range while finding the mark with his counter strikes. Seals was able to land a huge counter left hook on Perry and knocked him down to the mat in the early part of the fourth round. Even after being stunned in the fourth round, Perry continued to push the pace in the fifth round.

Both men threw strikes with knockout intentions deep into the later rounds of this fight. Perry continued to be the busier fighter and land more than Seals. Seals landed the cleaner shots of the two, but all in all Perry was able to grab the split decision victory with his volume.

Triller Triad Combat

Tonight from Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, Triller played host to Triad Combat: Mir vs. Pulev live on pay-per-view.

Triller brought to life their new concept for combat sports that they view as a hybrid between boxing and MMA. Under the Triad Combat rules, fighters compete in a triangular ring in two-minute rounds. The boxing/MMA hybrid comes into play with fighters having leeway for clinching and striking in the clinch.

In tonight’s main event, MMA legend Frank Mir took on Kubrat Pulev. Pulev entered the fight as a 28-2 boxer with 14 knockouts. In the co-main event, MMA vet Matt Mitrione fought Alexander Flores in another heavyweight bout. The 31-year-old Flores came in with an 18-3-1 professional boxing record, and this was Mitrione’s first time competing in a boxing/non-MMA contest.

Finally, the colorful Mike Perry also competed on tonight’s card. Perry recently exited the UFC and signed with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. Under BKFC contracts, fighters are free to pursue other ventures, and that is what Perry did tonight in his fight against Michael Seals, a 39-year-old boxer who entered with a 25-3 record.

You can catch the highlights from all three of those fights below followed by the quick results of the entire card!

Frank Mir

Former UFC fighters such as Frank Mir, Matt Mitrione, and Mike Perry will compete in the boxing ring at Triller Triad Combat later this month.

Mir will make his return to the ring after falling in his boxing debut to Steve Cunningham on the Jake Paul/Ben Askren card earlier this year. Despite losing the fight, Mir surpassed expectations in many boxing fans’ eyes and sounded optimistic about continuing to develop his skills.

Mir briefly competed in Bellator after a long tenure in the UFC which included a reign as the UFC heavyweight champion. In his last MMA fight, he defeated Roy Nelson by unanimous decision at Bellator 231 before leaving the sport.

Former UFC fighters transitioning to boxing opened the door to Mir and others to continue to make a living off of their combat sports skillsets.

Perry became the most recent UFC fighter to make the switch from MMA to boxing after an up-and-down series of fights with the UFC. He was released by the promotion after losing four of his last five bouts, included a lopsided performance against Daniel Rodriguez. Perry will compete in his first boxing match in six years against Sakio Bika.

Frank Mir and Mike Perry Will Make Their Boxing Returns

Below are just a few of the names on the card, as highlighted by MMA journalist Ariel Helwani.

A former UFC heavyweight colleague of Mir’s, Matt Mitrione, will compete against Alexander Flores. The former Ultimate Fighter standout will be making his boxing debut after a long stint in Bellator.

The boxing event will precede the highly-anticipated Paul/Tommy Fury card and will take place on Nov. 27 in Arlington, TX. Mir, Perry, and Mitrione will have the opportunity to once again prove themselves on a big stage.

Mike Perry Julian Lane

With Mike Perry signing to BKFC he has a lot of options in front of him, but Julian Lane may not be one of them.

Perry shocked the MMA world with the announcement that he was leaving the UFC and had signed to BKFC. Sure, he had only won three of his last ten fights, but he is always an exciting fighter to watch with a unique personality to boot.

Nevertheless, Perry is set to make the transition to BKFC, with some notable names in the bare-knuckle circuit already calling him out. One of these people is two-time Ultimate Fighter alum Julian Lane, known better as the “Let me bang, bro” guy, who has a 3-4 record in bare-knuckle boxing and called out the former UFC fighter on Instagram.

“Mike platinum Perry signs to @bareknucklefc ?????? Should I let him bang? ????????” Lane wrote.

However, it seems that Mike Perry is not particularly interested in this specific matchup. When asked about it on The MMA Hour, he gave the most on-brand response imaginable, saying that he was not interested in facing someone who would want to do the things that Lane does.

“I don’t know a sensitive way to say it. I’m a little homophobic when it comes to MMA fighting callouts. I don’t want my opponents to want to bang, bro. So I’m a little hesitant with that one. I mean, we can make any fight happen, though. Whoever Bare Knuckle (makes) happen, but I want to get slim pickings because that’s one fight, and there’s other guys too,” Perry said.

At this point in time, there is no indication on when Mike Perry will make his BKFC debut or who it will be against. That said, BKFC President Dave Feldman has said he is willing to give the former UFC fighter an immediate title shot, so a fight with Julian Lane seems unlikely at this point.
