Mike Perry was not pleased with his performance against Geoff Neal at UFC 245.
The two hard-hitting welterweights collided on the featured prelim bout on Saturday with many expecting a back-and-forth war. Instead, Neal rocked Perry with a head kick before dropping him with punches on his way to a first-round TKO victory.
For Perry, it was not only the quickest defeat of his career after just 90 seconds but also the first time he was finished by strikes. Reflecting on his performance the day after, “Platinum” commented on the setback:
“Phok bro. Wtf , my offense wasn’t there,” Perry tweeted. “Damn if I don’t feel like a dumbass. Kids don’t be like me. It’s dangerous when you seem to enjoy getting hit in the face , But Still , I will be back in the gym to drill moves to kill until my team feels I’ll bring the thrills ! Thanks”
The defeat puts Perry on a two-fight losing skid while he has also lost five of his last seven outings.
However, given his popularity as a fan-favorite fighter as well as his usually-entertaining performances, Perry should have no worries whatsoever about potentially being cut — even if he goes on to lose three in a row for the first time in his career.
Geoff Neal planned on being the first to finish Mike Perry and he delivered. The two hard-hitting welterweights met in the featured prelim clash of UFC 245 on Saturday night and the fight certainly lived up to expectations — however, it wasn’t a war. The two hard-hitting welterweights met in the featured prelim clash of UFC 245 on Saturday night and the fight certainly lived up to expectations — however, it wasn’t a war. Instead, Neal rocked Perry with a head kick early in the first round and proceeded to unload a flurry on him.
Perry eventually dropped to the ground with the referee calling an end to the action soon after.
In the process, Neal announced himself as the next big contender in the stacked welterweight division.

Mike Perry is doubling down on his threat to give Colby Covington hell this week ahead of UFC 245 tomorrow night.
Perry and Covington both compete on tomorrow’s (Sat. December 14, 2019) pay-per-view (PPV) event, only, not against each other. Perry takes on Geoff Neal on the featured preliminary bout of the night on ESPN. As for Covington, he headlines the PPV against Kamaru Usman for the welterweight championship.
It’s no secret that Perry is not a fan of Covington’s, and speaking to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani recently, “Platinum” suggested, if he can get an open shot, he’s going to sneak up on Covington and hit him. (H/T BJPenn.com)
“I think he is going to lose his fight on Saturday anyway, and he’s got protection. He’s got a babysitter at all times. It is not that I want to run up and say something to him. Everyone always says something to Colby, they warn him. I’m going to walk up behind him and hit him when he ain’t looking.
“I’m going to take my shot when I get a chance, you know what I mean. When he loses on Saturday and I win, let’s set that fight up. That’s the fight I want and that’s the fight I’ve been asking for. So, let’s make that happen.”
Should Perry win his fight tomorrow night, and Covington potentially lose, it will be interesting to see if Perry can land a fight with “Chaos.” The welterweight division is stacked with tremendous talent. A potential fight between Perry and Covington would certainly provide one of the more interesting stylistic matchups available.
