Colby Covington isn’t the UFC welterweight champion yet – but he’s more than content to plan out his title defenses nonetheless.

Speaking to BJPenn.com Radio recently, “Chaos” made an interesting offer to “Platinum” Mike Perry. Covington promised Perry a shot at his future 170-pound title – if he could string together two-straight victories:

“If Mike Perry can win two fights in a row he’s getting an immediate title shot,” Colby Covington said. “I will defend my title against him. I know he can’t count to as high as two and I know he’s probably not going to win two fights row.

If Mike Perry, that dumb motherf**king cousin f**ker, sheep lover, horse-face lover motherf**ker can win two fights in a row, Jason, he’s getting an immediate title shot. Winning two fights for a jobber who’s going to be fighting Indian casinos next year is going to be really tough for him.

I don’t see it happening, but I wish him the best. I really do hope he wins another fight so I can literally break his jaw and send him packing. He’ll never fight again. I promise you that.”

Covington is a former interim welterweight champion. However, he has since been stripped of the title due to inactivity. Despite this, he’s believed to be the next challenger for current champion, Kamaru Usman, very soon. Not even thinking about the Usman match-up, Covington is already looking forward to a bout with Perry.

Should the pair share the Octagon, Covington believes he’d dominate the fan-favorite knockout artist:

“If they locked me in the octagon with him they’d probably give me assault afterwards,” Covington said. “I’d probably be in jail for assault because the dude, he’d be helpless in there against me. Literally, he’d be helpless.

“That’s just all it would be. He’d be helpless. He wouldn’t be able to do anything. He’d be so gassed out. He thought he was gassed out in one round against ‘Cowboy’ Olivera? Who the f**k is that guy? You’re talking about the cream of the crop [with me]. America’s champion.

“The best welterweight to ever grace the UFC. He has no shot, Jason. So, I’m hoping he can get on a two fight win streak so I could end his career. One more and he’s getting fast tracked to the title, man. I’m going to give him his shot. Mike Perry win two fights in a row.

“Come on, buddy. I’m praying for you. I know you can’t count to two, but I hope you can win two fights in a row.”

Mike Perry reflects on a story where top UFC middleweight title contender Jacare Souza saved his life.

The two fighters actually just fought on the same card but the outcomes of those fights were different. Perry scored a unanimous decision win over Alex Oliveira while Souza lost to Jack Hermansson by decision. These fights took place at the UFC Fort Lauderdale event that happened on April 27, 2019, at BB&T Center.

During a video interview with Andrew Whitelaw, Perry looked back on a crazy story. It started once he found a rubber band on a pull-up bar.

This is where he thought it was a good idea to resist a choke with it but he ended up choking himself unconscious and nearly hanging himself from the band and bar. Fortunately for him, Souza was there and saved his life.

“I don’t know what I was thinking. I put my head in this thing, and I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m going to do a neck workout. I’m going to work on my ability to take a choke,’” Perry said (H/T to FanSided). “So I lean forward, and [it] wraps up my neck. And then I flex myself so that I could hold on. And in two seconds, as soon as I lean forward and it does it…next thing I know, Alan, from the UFC, and Jacare Souza [are there]. Alan’s slapping me and pouring water on me, shaking me, but they said that Jacare, who while he was filming for ESPN — he was hitting a bag — and he sees me.”

“I hit my face on the metal bar of the pull-up bar. And I’m passed out. I’m still hanging on this thing. I’m hanging myself. And Jacare’s seen it, and he jumps over there quick and he pulls me out of the thing. And then they’re waking me up, and then I come to, and I’m like, “Oh, man. It was a bad joke. I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to scare everybody.”

Everyone seems to want to get their hands on former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington. “Platinum” Mike Perry is no different.

Following a big win over Alex Oliveira this past weekend at UFC Ft. Lauderdale, Perry joined today’s (Mon. April 29, 2019) “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.” During the appearance, Perry was asked about a possible match-up with “Chaos.” Perry had some harsh words for Covington, who he said he’d “skull f*ck” inside the Octagon (via MMA News):

“Yeah f*ck him, he can suck my d*ck. F*ck that b*tch. I’ll f*ck him in his f*cking skull. Screw that motherf*cker. I don’t give a f*ck about him or his life. I will rip his head from his neck, I keep saying this, what’s he gonna do?

“Lean on me, lean on me, lean on me. You can’t lean on me hard enough. You ain’t no truck and I will hit you if you’re that close to me trying to lean on me. And I will poke you in the eye. The ref better be watching and I don’t care. I sure don’t.”

It’s expected that Covington will be the first man to challenge Kamaru Usman for his newly-acquired welterweight throne. As for Perry, he’ll have to string together a few more big wins before getting near the title conversation. Perry has become one of the bigger fan favorites in the sport in recent months.

Should he and Covington ever find themselves matched up against one another, the build-up would be nothing short of exciting.
