Jake Paul responds to 'old-head' Conor McGregor's comments on Mike Tyson fight: 'There's no reason to be jealous'

Jake Paul didn’t appreciate Conor McGregor’s take on his upcoming clash with ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson.

On Saturday, July 20, ‘The Problem Child’ will look to score his 10th career win in the boxing ring when he meets former unified heavyweight world champion and “the baddest man on the planet” inside the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. With the bout scheduled to be broadcast live on Netflix to over 260 million active subscribers, Paul is confident that the fight will be among the most watched in combat sports history.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

However, not everyone feels that way. During an interview at SXSW, the Irishman said: ”It’s a bit strange, you know. My interest is low. I don’t know. I don’t understand it.”

Reacting to McGregor’s lack of interest during a recent episode of his BS w/ Jake Paul podcast, the YouTuber-turned-boxer slammed the UFC megastar with some flimsy numbers comparing interest in his fight with Tyson versus McGregor’s last fight against Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

“So, Conor, you’re saying that interest’s low for the fight but the last fight you announced, there was a thousand articles written in a multiple-day span . . . you know people talking about your last fight. In that same multiple-day span, there was ten thousand articles written about this (Tyson vs. Paul). So this is in my mind, this is the biggest fight the world will ever see.

“There’s no reason to be jealous. I get that people are jealous, but when the old-heads like Conor are still trying to hate… Why are you trying to pull people [down]? Your ego is that [big]?”

Jake Paul Confident His Fight with Tyson will outdo McGregor’s clash with ‘Money’

Jake Paul was also adamant that his fight with ‘Iron’ would be significantly more viewed than McGregor’s iconic clash with Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather in 2017.

Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather

“It’ll be more viewed, 1000%. Obviously, it’ll be free so we can’t compare pay-per-view numbers, but a lot of people in this sport are b*tches. That’s what I’ve come to find out. They don’t actually want to fight.

Considering Paul vs. Tyson will be available to every Netflix subscriber in the world for no additional charge, July’s fight will likely earn far more views than McGregor’s lone appearance in the squared circle. Unfortunately, we’ll likely never know the true numbers as Netflix rarely releases its streaming data.

Paul and Tyson are set to box on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The fight caught many by surprise due to the age discrepancy between the two, which White is not a fan of. He also says he is good friends with Tyson but even White can’t get into the fight due to Tyson being 58 when the bout happens.

“I love Mike and I hate talking about it because he always gets mad when I talk about this stuff, but when the fight happens he will be 58-years-old. There will be a 31-year age difference, Jake Paul did fight a kid his age and lost. I just saw this thing on the internet yesterday, if he beats Mike Tyson, he’s gonna fight Clint Eastwood next, Clint Eastwood is 93 years old,” White said on The Pound 4 Pound podcast.

White also thinks Paul is only boxing Tyson due to the fact the YouTuber-turned-boxer can’t sell fights himself unless he is fighting someone with a name.

“He doesn’t, what Jake wants is Jake wants to make money. The people that follow Jake Paul don’t buy Jake Paul’s fight, so Jake Paul has to fight people who can actually sell pay-per-views,” White added.

Dana White’s long feud with Jake Paul

It shouldn’t be a surprise to see Dana White criticize Jake Paul as the two have had a long-reigning feud.

Since Paul has gotten into combat sports, he has taken shots at White for not paying his fighters enough money. Paul has also boxed a couple of former UFC fighters and has beaten them, which likely adds to White’s feud with Paul.

But, White isn’t the only person who has complained about Paul boxing soon-to-be 58-year-old Mike Tyson.

Ex-UFC fighter says Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson has to be a pro fight, otherwise, there's no point: 'Why waste our time?'

Unless Mike Tyson and Jake Paul are going to try and take each others’ heads off, former UFC standout Brendan Schaub doesn’t see the point.

On Saturday, July 20, Tyson will return to the ring for a clash with ‘The Problem Child’ inside the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Aside from the date and location, we have very few details regarding the contest — in particular, whether this will be an exhibition match or a full-on professional fight.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

Recently, heavyweight boxing star Derek Chisora suggested that the bout will be contested with both fighters using headgear and 18-ounce gloves. However, Paul was quick to quell that rumor. Still, with little information to go off of, pundits are keen to remain skeptical about what could potentially be the most-watched fight in combat sports history.

“My only thing is, what kind of shenanigans are going on behind the scenes between [Tyson] and Jake?” Schaub said during a recent episode of The Fighter and The Kid podcast with Bryan Callen. “What’s the agreement? Because with Roy Jones we found out the agreement after was no headshots. Only to the body. Just do it in your gym and put it on YouTube. Don’t force me to pay if you’re going to do that bullsh*t. Don’t market it as a legit fight.”

He added, “If it comes out that the fight is with headgear and 18-ounce gloves, why waste our time? Netflix is going to be furious.”

Schaub Expects Jake Paul to Beat Mike Tyson in a ‘Legit fight’

If their clash in The Lone Star State is licensed as a pro bout, it will be the first of Mike Tyson’s career since a 2005 loss to Kevin McBride. The ‘baddest man on the planet‘ returned to the ring in November 2020 against Roy Jones Jr, but the contest was dubbed an exhibition with no real danger and no winner after going the full eight rounds.

“If it’s a legit fight, Jake should beat him, but again, I’m not betting on this fight because I don’t know the shenanigans going on,” Schaub continued. “Boxing has so many shenanigans. That’s what’s wrong with the sport. It’s corrupt as sh*t.”

Instead of airing on traditional pay-per-view, Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul will air live on Netflix, making it the first time the media giant has broadcast a combat sports event to its 260+ million subscribers.

UFC star Sean Strickland dubs Jake Paul a 'disgrace of a man' for agreeing to fight 57-year-old boxing legend Mike Tyson

Sean Strickland is once again tearing into YouTube-turned-pro-boxer Jake Paul.

It’s no secret that the former UFC middleweight champion does not like ‘The Problem Child’ or his never-ending stream of gimmick fights. Earlier this year, the two got into an uproar on social media after Paul took exception to Strickland’s treatment of Sneako — a popular Rumble streamer who decided to test his skills inside the cage with Strickland during a sparring session ahead of Super Bowl weekend.

The incident sparked a heated back-and-forth between the two that saw Strickland deliver a quasi-death threat to the 27-year-old millionaire.

This time, Strickland is taking exception to Paul’s announcement that on Saturday, July 20, he will return to the boxing ring for a fight with former unified champion of the world, ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson. The bout, scheduled to emanate from the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, has been the subject of much criticism. Most of that surrounds the fact that Paul is more than 30 years younger than Tyson who will be 58 by the time fight night rolls around.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

“I wanted to f*cking murder Jake Paul,” Strickland said during a recent interview with The Schmo. “But it’s bullsh*t, man. It’s … I mean, how old is Mike Tyson, 60? It’s bullsh*t,” he said. “Jake Paul… you are a disgrace of a man. You are the epitome of weakness. You are the scum of the earth. The fact that you even have a platform or anything of that nature is a slight on society. You truly make me f*cking disgusted. If I ever encounter you in real life, I hope that I just don’t lose my sh*t and go to prison” (h/t Express).

Mike Tyson has 5x the experience and is more than twice the age of Jake Paul

No official announcements have been made, but rumors are circulating that Paul’s bout with the “baddest man on the planet” will be a professional boxing match, making it the first of Tyson’s career since a loss against Kevin McBride in 2005. Tyson did return to the ring in November 2020 to face legendary pugilist Roy Jones Jr, but the contest was deemed an exhibition that ultimately went to an eight-round draw.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

As for Jake Paul, this will be his 11th pro fight in just over four years. ‘The Problem Child’ made a name for himself in the sport primarily fighting past-their-prime fighters from the world of mixed martial arts, including Ben Askren, Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz, and Tyron Woodley on two separate occasions. He did step in the ring against a “legitimate boxer” in February 2023 when he met Tommy Fury — the younger brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. Paul lost the bout via split decision.

In more recent months, Paul has focused on attempting to legitimize himself in the sport by taking on a couple of no-name fighters who showed promise once upon a time. He quickly KO’d Andre August in December before quickly moving on to Ryan Bourland, who was a former Golden Gloves champion and National Junior Olympian during his amateur career. Paul overwhelmed Bourland and put him away with ease in the opening round.

Thus far, Jake Paul is 9-1 in his professional boxing career. Mike Tyson, who retired from the sport nearly two decades ago, holds a record of 50-6 with 44 of his wins coming by way of knockout.

On Saturday, July 20, 57-year-old boxing legend ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson will return to the boxing ring for a clash with ‘The Problem Child’ inside the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The bout will air on Netflix making it the first time the streaming giant has broadcasted a live combat sports event since its inception more than 25 years ago.

Though their highly anticipated showdown is still four months away, Jake Paul is already busy promoting the contest in his own unique way. Taking to social media, Paul posed in his underwear while walking a white tiger, recreating an iconic photo of the former unified heavyweight world champion.

“Who did it better?” Paul wrote accompanied by a side-by-side comparison of the two photos.

During his younger years, Mike Tyson famously owned a Bengal white tiger with whom he had a close bond. Tyson was even photographed at one time “sparring” with the tiger outside of his home.

“I did have a pet tiger, her name was Kenya and she was around 550 pounds,” Tyson told GQ Sports. “I had a great affection for her; I kept her, I slept with her, I kept her in my room. She stayed with me I had her for about 16 years. But she got too old and I had to get rid of her when her eyes and her head got bad.”

In 1996, Tyson was filmed while tussling with the large cat inside his mansion during an interview with Roseanne Barr for Inside Edition.

Considering Mike Tyson’s unique personality, Jake Paul will likely have a lot of ammunition as he marches toward his summertime scrap with “the baddest man on the planet.”

Coach Rafael Cordeiro confident Jake Paul will panic once he gets a taste of Mike Tyson's legendary power

Coach Rafael Cordeiro plans on pushing Jake Paul into panic mode when the YouTube star steps inside the ring with heavyweight legend ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson on July 20.

Emanating from the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium, ‘The Problem Child’ will seek his 10th career win inside the squared circle when he meets the “baddest man on the planet” live on Netflix. Preparing Tyson for the encounter is Cordeiro, the proprietor of Kings MMA in California. Before that, he made a name for himself in the MMA world as a Muay Thai coach at Chute Boxe.

“This fight won’t be a massacre, it’s going to be a very technical match, because we have a kid on the other side that can box and isn’t afraid,” Cordeiro told MMA Fighting. “Mike has such heavy hands, and it will be impossible not to touch Jake. Jake will feel Mike’s hands, there’s no other way, and that’s when we’ll have an idea on how the fight will go. It’s going to be interesting to see.”

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

As a professional boxer, Jake Paul is 9-1 with six of his victories coming by way of knockout.

By the time he steps inside the ring with Mike Tyson, the former unified heavyweight champion will be 58 years old — 31 years older than his opposition. Despite that, Cordeiro believes that Tyson’s iconic power is still there and is confident that Paul will panic once he gets a taste of it.

“Panic — he will panic,” Cordeiro said with a laugh. “That’s the goal. Our goal is to keep Jake in a panic the entire fight. Or for as long as he can take it.”

Rafael Cordeiro Commends Jake Paul’s boxing skills

No official announcement has been made, but according to Cordeiro, Paul vs. Tyson will be a professional boxing match. If that proves to be true, it will be Tyson’s first pro fight since suffering a loss to Kevin McBride in 2005.

Tyson has since stepped inside the ring, competing in an exhibition boxing match with fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020. Before going eight rounds with RJJ, Tyson had done very little in the way of training, but, ‘Iron’ has stayed active in the gym ever since.

Jake Paul's next opponent against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020

“Unlike the first camp, [Tyson] won’t be coming off 15 years away [from the ring],” Cordeiro said. “He’s been training ever since, and that makes all the difference. It’s going to be good. We still got four more months for the fight, so he will be ready.”

“There’s the age difference, and there’s the factor that [Paul] is competing more often, but he’s facing someone with enormous experience,” he continued. “Mike doesn’t train for some time, and when he returns, the explosiveness, the movement, it’s like he never stopped. More than who hits the hardest, it’s about the technique. Jake has good boxing. You can’t say otherwise. He’s winning the fights, and his loss is a split decision to a legit boxer, not a MMA champion, and that shows the kid knows how to box.”
