Holly Holm was expected to return to the Octagon at UFC 243 in Australia against Raquel Pennington.

However, “The Preacher’s Daughter” suffered an injury that forced her out of the matchup. Longtime coach Mike Winkeljohn spoke to BJPenn.com to provide an update on the former women’s bantamweight champion. Winkeljohn said fans will be seeing Holm soon and expects her to return in early 2020.

“Early next year. She ripped a lot of muscle of her tendon working out one day and it is one of those injuries that you need to let heal,” Winkeljohn said. “We will be seeing her soon.”

Holm comes off a knockout loss to Amanda Nunes, who she challenged for the 145-pound title, at UFC 239. Rather than try to re-book her scheduled fight with Pennington, Winkeljohn said he’d like to see Holm take on Aspen Ladd instead.

“Aspen Ladd would be great, we would love that fight,” Winkeljohn said. “Especially after what she said when Holm got the title fight and that fight never happened. So, Holly would love would to get into the cage with that young lady. I don’t know, Raquel Pennington is still there.”

What do you think about Winkeljohn wanting Holm to face Aspen Ladd next?

Many mixed martial arts (MMA) fans are dying to see a superfight between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and middleweight champ Israel Adesanya.

The pair have been going back-and-forth with one another via social media over the past several months. Adesanya is currently preparing to make the first defense of his 185-pound title, while Jones is gearing up to make yet another defense of the 205-pound championship he has held for so long against Dominick Reyes in February. Recently, Jones’ coach, Mike Winkeljohn, spoke to BJPenn.com to discuss Jones’ beef with “Stylebender.”

“That would be up to Jon if he stays at light heavyweight. If Jon goes up to heavyweight by then, it is hard to bounce back down,” Winkeljohn said. “It is not that easy to change 15-pounds efficiently and still fight. We have to make a decision of going up and fighting for the belt or staying at 205 and cleaning out the division until Adesanya wants to come up.”

In regards to a possible fight between the two champions, Winkeljohn admitted any such fight would all depend on whether or not Jones opts to jump up to heavyweight, or remain at 205 pounds to clean out the division.

“I think it might happen. That young man needs to get bigger and gain some weight because Jon just dwarfs him. Jon beats him in so many places because of his skill and size,” Winkeljohn said. “But, Israel is an incredible strike, there is no doubt about it, and has good wrestling defense. But, he needs to gain weight before he thinks about fighting Jon. Like everybody, he is looking to challenge the top dog to get his name out there and the top dog is Jon. If it happens, it is down the road.”

As for how the fight would play out, Winkeljohn believes Jones’ size advantage will simply be too much for Adesanya to handle. That, mixed with Jones skillset, will present the middleweight champion with quite a bit of adversity to overcome. If Adesanya wants to make the fight more competitive, Winkeljohn suggests Adesanya pack on some more weight.

Do you agree that Jones vs. Adesanya will, in fact, happen down the line? Who are you picking in the potential matchup?

Jon Jones became aware of the post and commenteted on it defending himself and the team. He says he paid Frank Lester a lot of money and was always on time with paying. The reason he was fired was because of a drug problem according to the light heavyweight champ.

“Frank I gave you the opportunity of a lifetime. Everyone on the team knows that I would not agree to give you $20,000 for only your second training camp on my team. And if I did, I would have totally paid you that amount, not once and 10 years have I ever gotten a complaint about not paying staff members. If anything I’m always complemented for being peoples highest paying client by a longshot. I won’t even get in to the fact that you were fired from the team on fight week because of your drug issues. Anyways, I’m not going to argue with you over the Internet. I would be more than happy to take this to a judge. It’s the physical threatening that I have a problem with. I have no interest in carrying a concealed pistol or preparing for any type of street fight with you. Tomorrow I will be calling APD and bringing our confrontation to their awareness. Honestly I wish I would have never gotten to know you, but I truly do wish you nothing but the best. Please just leave me alone bro or see me in court.” — Jones replied.

Whether or not this will get to court is to be seen. But, there is no question the two do not like each other.

What do you make of Frank Lester’s post and Jon Jones’ reply?

Mike Winkeljohn On Israel Adesanya’s Beef With Jon Jones: ‘He’s Trying To Make Money’

Mike Winklejohn believes Israel Adesanya is simply trying to make money by building up a future fight with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Adesanya and Jones have been trash talking each other for a couple of months now and a fight down the line looks more than possible. In fact, Adesanya even predicts it will take place at the Raiders Stadium at some point. However, he was not impressed by the champion’s recent performance against Thiago Santos at UFC 239 this past weekend.

When asked about the Adesanya’s comments, Winklejohn, who coaches Jones, believes it’s just another part in building up a future fight:

“He’s trying to make money,” Winklejohn told Submission Radio. “Good for him. That’s what he’s trying to do, is trying to put a fight together down the road, and I’m sure Jon will be more than happy to accommodate him down the road when he finally gets enough size.”

Many have cited similarities between Jones and Adesanya and believe they are each other’s biggest tests. However, Winklejohn believes “The Last Stylebender” must first get used to the extra weight if he fights at 205 pounds.

Even then, he believes Jones would triumph:

“He has to put some weight on, and we’ll have to see how he performs at that weight, if he’s got the same speed, the same explosiveness he has right now,” Winklejohn explained. “He’s a fantastic fighter, he’s incredible at what he does. Jon beats him in so many avenues.

And as far as his speed kickboxing-wise, you know, Israel, that’s what he does, but Jon can go with anybody standing up in the world. But Jon always can take you down and rain elbows on your face, and that’s what takes Jon Jones and separates him from the rest of the pack.”

Do you agree with Winklejohn?
