UFC 214 kicks off on July 29, 2017 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California. It is possibly the biggest card of 2017 yet, which is pretty evident from the lineup of fights.

  • Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones
  • Cris Cyborg vs. Tonya Evinger
  • Tyron Woodley vs. Demian Maia

Let’s tackle the Cormier vs. Jones bout. One must remember that Cormier lost to Jones by unanimous decision in their first meeting in the ring at UFC 182 in Jan. 2015. However, he did pick up some nice wins that include a double against Anthony Johnson, and Anderson Silva and Alexander Gustafsson, which makes his a formidable opponent as he has seemed to tighten up his games. On the other hand, Jones has only fought once since his last meeting with Cormier where he won over Ovince Saint Preux by a unanimous decision. What’s important to note is that this was back in April 2016 in UFC 197, so that is a pretty long layoff, which was following suspensions and other incidents outside the octagon.

Can Jones pull it off this time or has his skills diminished with his inactivity? He remains a clear favorite, which of course, Jones’ fans will be happy about. For Cormier, there is a lot at stake and he will need to prove himself as the light heavyweight champ despite wins against Gustafsson and Johnson. He did say that he hadn’t tried hard enough in the clinch in his last fight with Jones and this will be on his mind this time around. That said, Cormier otherwise has a neat record which may tempt punters to put some money on him.

However, Jones is definitely the one to pick. He hasn’t lost except for his fight against Matt Hamill in 2009 at the Ultimate Fighter Finale. He seems to be in good shape and could pick up another win against Cormier by unanimous decision. Time away from the sport may have taken a toll on some fighters but Jones could prove everyone wrong at UFC 214.

Bellator 180 – Douglas Lima vs. Lorenz Larkin Predictions

Douglas “Phenom” Lima will have to defend his title in front of a massive crowd in one of the most illustrious venue’s of the sport at Bellator 180. This is the 29 year olds second run as champion and this is the going to be his first test to hold onto the championship. His contender […]

Douglas “Phenom” Lima will have to defend his title in front of a massive crowd in one of the most illustrious venue’s of the sport at Bellator 180. This is the 29 year olds second run as champion and this is the going to be his first test to hold onto the championship. His contender is no slouch, if Lima wants to carry on as champion then he first has to deal with the brute strength and strike force of none other than Lorenz Larkin. To make things even harder for the Phenow, Larkin is coming into this fight hot! The last four of his five fights have been comfortable wins and on the sole occasion that he did lose, it turned out to be via a rather speculative split decision. This loss came at the hands of Albert Tumenov and a lot of people are still of the opinion that the judges got this one wrong.

Larkin is an underrated fighter who on paper is actually surprisingly good with a win ratio of 75%. A good 11 of his 18 victories have come via knockouts. However, Lima’s numbers are even better. Lima has a win ratio of 82% and has got a fair number of knockouts under his belt too. However, the one area where Lima does have the edge is certainly on the ground. He is really good at Jiu-Jitsu and has 11 submissions to his name. Having said that, it is no doubt that Lima will be trying to get the fight to the mat as often as possible, but Larkin has a great reach and is going to be expecting take downs. If there is a hard fight to call in this fight card, it is probably this one. If we HAD TO pick a winner, then we would thing Lima will take this by unanimous decision.

Mark your calendars because come June 24th a lot of high intensity fighting action is going to go down in Madison Square Garden , New York, N.Y. Bellator 180 has been eagerly awaited and now the wait is almost over. The one fight which has really got people talking is Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva. This one has been on the cards for a long time, especially ever since TUF Brazil 3 and it is now finally going to happen. This fight will be the main event of the night and will be telecasted on a pay per view basis.

This is the first time that Bellator MMA is coming to the iconic venue of Madison Square Garden and evidently, Bellator has put out a mouthwatering fight card which is most certainly worth this grand venue. Coming to the main fight in hand, Sonnen has been pretty vocal about his hunger to humiliate and inflict pain on Silva, but can he put his money where his mouth is? Or will Silva shut Sonnen’s mouth with his fists? Sonnen’s form has not been great, and he has not tasted victory since 2013. However, Silva himself has not been in tip top shape either. Silva also does not have a single victory to his name since 2013 when he was suspended for having failed a doping test. Sonnen might be the one with the huge hands, but it is actually Silva who is the true knockout artist. A staggering 30 of his 38 wins have been via knockouts.

Silva has not fought competitively in a long time and may be rusty right out of the gate, but Sonnen has not had a win in a long time and despite the facade he puts up, his confidence is not going to be over the moon. It is most certainly going to be an amazing fight for the fans, a long awaited “grudge match” so to speak, but if it comes time to make a prediction – We are going to have to go with Wanderlei Silva to win via a technical knockout.

Dustin Poirier Vs. Jim Miller

Poirier was on a dream run in the 155 pounds category, but sadly for him, that run came to a screeching and devastating halt when he came up against Michael Johnson who completely outclassed him in all aspects. Poirier now gets a chance to get back up on his two feet when he faces the surging Jim Miller in UFC 208. Miller himself will also find himself in a similar boat where he will be looking to make a rebound after his rather poor 2014 – 2015 season where he dropped 1-4.

This fight will really provide an insight into whether or not he can make a Andrei Arlovski-esque come back. How will it all play out? We will just have to wait and watch.

Ryan LaFlare Vs. Roan Carniero

Both these guys at one point in time had their names in up in shining lights in the welter-weight division, but it is safe to say that those days are long gone. Are they just not in their prime anymore? Or are things not clicking for them? Well, it looks like one of them will catch a break when they face each other come UFC fight night 208.

LaFlare has been coming up against opponents who, with all due respect to Carniero, are generally regarded a stiffer challenge than what Carniero puts up. This will be LaFlare’s best chance to get back to winning ways.

However, technically speaking, Carniero is still a better finisher amongst the two and he certainly knows how to put a fight to bed. However, we still think that LaFlare has the upper edge when overall conditioning is considered and he might take this one home in a decision victory. What is your bet?

There is a lot of amazing mixed marital arts action on the cards around the corner and not only will be this be high quality, adrenalin pumping entertainment for the viewers but also a fantastic opportunity for punters to make some bank.

Gennady Golokvin “GGG” and Roman Gonzalez, also known as “Chocolatito” are two boxers that are in their own league in the boxing world for being pound for pound fighters and both these guys will be determined to continue with their winning form come Saturday night at the Forum in Inglewood.

The odds might not be the amazing, but backing both these fighters in our opinion is a very safe bet as they are both undefeated, confident and obviously heavily favored to win their respective fights. Gonzalez fought against the formidable Brian Vilora on Oct 17th and it took him an exhausting nine rounds to get the job done. On the other hand, Golokvin was up against David Lemiuex whom he won against by a technical knockout.

It is very hard to see Golokvin’s fighting ending any other way than him winning. When he beat Lemiuex, he was handed the IBF middleweight title and this victory was his 21st consecutive win by knockout. Golokvin’s opponent is now none other than Dominic Wade. Wade is undefeated too and has an immaculate record himself, however, it does not take an expert to tell you that his wins haven’t been as convincing or outright dominant as Golokvin’s. If Wade was to somehow triumph, it would most definitely be the biggest upset of the year in the fighting world.

Gonzalez is scheduled to fight McWilliams Arroyo. Yet again, Gonzalez like Golokvin is expected to win this without too much of a hassle. Arroyo, similar to Wade has an impressive record as well but not good enough to put up a tough fight and actually beat someone like Gonzalez who is flying high at the moment.

A third fight scheduled on Saturday is Nonito Donaire will be taking on Zsolt Bedak in the Philippines. A Nonito Donaire win by unanimous decision would be a solid bet to have for this bout.

UFC Fight Night 85 In Brisbane is around the corner and all eyes are on the Mark Hunt Vs. Frank Mir clash. The headliner on March 20 (March 19 in USA due to difference in time zone) is sure to be a tough one with plenty of betting going on. What we have is a classic striker take on a grappler, which makes it all the more interesting.

Samoan Mark Hunt (11-10-1) comes in as a favorite due to his reputation as a fighter and cool all-round personality. His background in kickboxing brings with it some great striking skills and KO power while Hunt is also known to be able to take a lot of punishment. Fans who have watched him are well aware that he waits for the right moment to strike a lethal blow. Yet, Hunt is a fighter who can keep you guessing since he could lose six in a row and them come back to win four.

Hunt’s last four fights are what bettors ought to look at. He won against Roy Nelson and was then defeated back to back by Fabricio Werdum and Stipe Miocic. However, he came back strongly at UFC 193 where he defeated Antonio Silva in the first round via TKO.

Frank Mir (18-10-0) is infamous for the Mir Lock, his shoulder lock from the guard. He has over 15 years experience in pro MMA matches and is the only fighter to win a toe hold fight in UFC. Mir has also won fights through a wide range of strikes and submissions. He had a series of wins in 2015 that put him in title contention for the third time. Last February he defeated Antonio Silva and then knocked out Todd Duffee in the first round in July. He lost a close fight to Andrei Arlovski in September 2015.

Both Hunt, 41, and Mir, 36, are at the bottom of the top-10 heavyweight rankings and defeinitly catching up on age. In this fight we should see Hunt with an advantage in the standup game. He has won 70 fights overall in kickboxing, boxing and MMA and comes in with loads of experience against different types of fighters. This could possibly work to his advantage where we may see a KO in his favor in UFC 85 in Brisbane on March 19, 2016.

Frank Mir also has the experience but isn’t as crisp in his standup game as compared to Hunt. His advantage is on the ground where we may see him dragging Hunt to the ground at least once to keep him guessing. If this pans out well then Mir could have the edge.

Hunt has a 68% takedown record in the UFC while Mir stands at 47.5% takedowns. Currently, Bet365 has Frank Mir at 6/4 and Mark Hunt at 4/7. William Hill also has Mir at 6/4 and Mark Hunt at 8/15.
