Dana White has reacted for the first time since Jon Jones announced he would be relinquishing his light-heavyweight title due to an ongoing, public feud with the UFC boss about their failed negotiations for a super-fight against heavyweight knockout artist Francis Ngannou.

Just to recap: The UFC president claims Jones demanded “obscene” money similar to what Deontay Wilder makes ($30 million) to step up and fight Ngannou. Jones though denies those claims and has become increasingly upset at his bosses continued efforts to discredit him.

On Sunday evening Jones took to social media for reveal he will be giving up his 205lb title and not fighting again in the UFC for the foreseeable future, he wrote.

“ESPN Reyes vs Jan For the UFC light heavyweight championship of the world. As of right now, I got nothing to really gain fighting either of them. Let me know if you guys want to set up a day in 2021 for that Izzy fight. Hopefully you guys will be willing to pay by then.”

In a statement to the Vancouver Courier White said Jones is free to do whatever he wants to do and expressed the 205lb great has more than enough money from MMA and that means he doesn’t have to work another day in his life.

“Jon Jones is one of the greatest to ever do it,” said White. “The decision he wants to make regarding his career is up to him. The reality is that he’s made enough money from fighting that he’s now in the position to retire and never work again in his life.”

Since giving up his UFC belt Jones has been doing some brilliant work in the community. The 32-year-old was caught on camera confiscating spray paint from vandals during riots in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has since expressed his willingness to help small businesses that have been negatively impacted by the ongoing violence in the city.

Do you think Dana White will be able to convince Jon Jones to fight again?

A new report has found almost half of MMA fighters currently use marijuana to aid recovery or in recreation. The Athletic surveyed 170 fighters from various promotions and found 45.9 percent use marijuana and a staggering 76.6 percent us CBD products.

Greg Rosenstein of The Athletic released a breakdown of the numbers from the report on social media – check them out.

“New on @TheAthleticMMA : After a poll of 170 fighters… – 45.9% said they currently use marijuana for either recovery or recreational purposes. – 76.5% said they have used CBD products,” he wrote.

UFC Senior VP of Athlete Health and Performance Jeff Novitsky reacted to the finding and said although he had never considered them himself they seem pretty accurate.

“I think that sounds pretty accurate. I’ve never polled our roster — it’s all anecdotal — but I have had many, many, many discussions. It’s probably the No. 1 topic of questions that I’m asked from fighters,” Novitzky said. (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)

The rules towards marijuana usage in MMA have been complex for years now. Nick Diaz was once handed a five-year ban for testing positive for the drug which is now legal in many states. With that, the laws in MMA have also begun to be less strict towards the drug. Although, middleweight contender Kelvin Gastelum has just finished up a four-month suspension and was forced to partake in a drug treatment program after he tested positive for the marijuana after his loss to Darren Till at UFC 244.

Georges St-Pierre

Former two-weight UFC champion Georges St-Pierre is confident he would still be one of the best fighters on the planet if he decided to return to the sport of MMA. ‘GSP’ first retired in 2013 after picking up a controversial victory over Johny Hendricks. He returned to take on middleweight champion Michael Bisping almost four years later – picking up an impressive win and a second UFC belt before once again walking away from the sport.

Speaking to South China Morning Post, St-Pierre stated his belief that he is still more than capable of fighting and if he chose to do so he would still be the best fighter in the game, he said.

“I retired not because I can’t fight any more…I could fight again if I wanted to and I believe I could probably be one of the best, maybe the best.”

Any fans reading this are hopefully not too excited as the Canadian went on to say he is unlikely to make a comeback as he struggled to cope with the stress of fighting, he said.

“I stopped because of the stress. It was an unbearable feeling for me, so I never enjoyed it, the moment of competing and fighting. That’s something that, a little bit, I regret. I should have enjoyed it more.

“Yeah you never say never but for me right now I am very satisfied with what I have done and I believe in an extreme sport like MMA that when you are satisfied then it’s the end.”

St-Pierre is right to be satisfied with his accomplishments. The 39-year-old has done it all and it was announced during UFC 249 he would enter the Hall of Fame later this year, something he takes great pride in.

“I really believe that once you are a champion, you are always a champion,” says St-Pierre. “To be a Hall of Famer is a great honour. You’re in a different zone now, you’re among the elite. And for me to be among the elite in the sport of mixed martial arts, it’s the greatest honour.”

Do you think George St-Pierre could still compete at the top level of MMA?

Gilbert Burns Wants Welterweight Title Shot In July

Speaking to media post fight Burns revealed he is hoping to fight his teammate Usman next for the welterweight title and has told the UFC bosses he will be ready to go in July should they need him, he said.

“It’s going to be weird. But we’re both professionals. I like the guy a lot. He motivated me a lot when he became champion. I saw him at zero. We grappled a lot since the beginning. It will be weird, but I want to fight for the title and be the champion. He’s the champion, and that’s the only reason I would call for the fight. Otherwise, it wouldn’t make any sense. I know it might be [Jorge] Masvidal and all that craziness, but I told [UFC President] Dana [White], I’m available for July.

Even if he doesn’t get a title shot next Burns doesn’t want to sit around and wait for his turn. ‘Durinho’ is eyeing fights with fellow contenders Leon Edwards and Colby Covington after picking up the biggest win of his career.

“If you book another guy for the title, give me who’s available. If it’s not Colby [Covington], give me Leon Edwards. I just want to stay busy.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Edwards believes he is next in line should Masvidal pass up on his shot in favour of a fight with Nate Diaz. Covington is looking to rebound from his loss to Usman at UFC 245. He is currently without a gym and has no fight planned.
