Featherweight contenders Ryan Hall and Ricardo Lamas will face off on August 29 in Las Vegas according to reports. Combate initially reported the booking which has since been confirmed by MMA Fighting who wrote.

“Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a fight between Ryan Hall and Ricardo Lamas will take place at the UFC’s event on Aug. 29. The fight card will take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas.”

This news comes one day after the UFC announced they would be hosting nine shows in Las Vegas next month including UFC 252 and four Contender Series cards.

Hall and Lamas were originally booked to fight at UFC Oklahoma City in May before the ongoing global pandemic caused that card and many other to be scrapped. The Ultimate Fighter season 22 winner Hall has been perfect but inactive during his UFC career. Since winning TUF in 2015 he has competed just three times beating Gray Maynard, BJ Penn and Darren Elkins.

Lamas is looking to get back to winnings ways after being stopped by fellow featherweight contender Calvin Kattar last time out. Prior to that he snapped a two fight losing streak by beating Elkins by third round TKO.

The final UFC card of August doesn’t have a main event yet but several bouts have been announced including a light-heavyweight match-up between Anthony Smith and Aleksander Rakic. Featherweight contenders Zabit Magomedsharipov and Yair Rodriguez are also expected to face off on the card.

Russia Today reports Nurmagomedov Sr. died on Friday after being informed by Chechen Republic leader and friend of the family Ramzan Kadyrov.

Nurmangomedov first fell ill in April with pneumonia-like symptoms but COVID-19 was not confirmed. One Championship’s two division champion Aung La N Sang has revealed that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a post to his Instagram the fighter shared the news, stating that he and his family will be quarantining for the next 14 days.

“Dear family and friends, I got tested for covid-19 on Monday and the result came back today and I am positive. So my family and I will be quarantining ourselves for the next 14 days. I had a slight fever, congestion, body ache and fatigue on the first two days. Besides that I am blessed that my whole family is doing well. We are really in this together and we will get over this.”

The double champion most recently defended his light heavyweight title against Heavyweight champion Brandon Vera in October of 2019.

Since then it has been rumored he would defend his middleweight title in a trilogy bout against Vitaly Bigdash.

One Championship held an event with no crowd in Singapore back in February and planned to continue this with all the events they had scheduled. The organization decided against continuing this after COVID-19 began spreading at a rapid rate around the globe and has since held off holding any events.

Recently the promotion announced their return on July 31st in Bangkok with events to be held in the months following.

The announced event on July 31st will be held without any crowd in attendance and will feature no MMA bouts on the line-up. This card is instead to be headlined by two championship Muay Thai matchups, a trilogy bout, Rodtang vs Petchdam III, and Petchmorakot vs Yodsanklai.

There has been no announcement made by the organization on when Aung La N Sang will make his return, however, due to his recent positive test it is not likely to be anytime soon.

Dustin Poirier

Lightweight contender Dustin Poirier says his knockout loss to former dual weight UFC champion Conor McGregor helped him evolve into the mentally and physically tough fighter we see today.

Poirier returned to the win column this past weekend by outlasting Dan Hooker in the UFC on ESPN 12 main event. Both men went to war for five rounds but ‘The Diamond’ was the unanimous winner on the judge’s scorecards.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani Poirier revealed he become more comfortable in his own skin after losing to McGregor in 2014 and it has helped go from a fun featherweight to one of the best 155lb fighters in the game, he said.

“It definitely started happening after the Conor McGregor loss. That was the start of it. It’s been a long process, being a father, losing again, winning some and losing again, and winning another one. It’s just a long evolution of stop caring so much. You just stop caring about the noise and stuff that doesn’t matter.”

Poirier explained that as a younger man he took everything too seriously including criticism from fans or journalists. Today, he is able to block out all of the noise, be happy and it shows in his fights.

“A lot of times in my younger career, I felt like it was life or death,” Poirier said. “Every comment on Instagram and Twitter, every journalist who said something, I felt like everybody was against me. I felt like if I lost I would be written off, it’s the end of my career. I’m a bum if I lose this fight. And then you lose a few times and you’re like, ‘Oh sh*t, I can still put this back together. Oh man, I’m still providing for my family. I’m still loving what I do.’ It’s like you’ve been bent but not broken a lot of times and I feel like it made me stronger and it made me the man I am today. I’m happy. I’m genuinely happy.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Do you think this evolved version of Dustin Poirier will beat Conor McGregor in a rematch?
