Things have been relatively quiet on the Chuck Liddell retirement watch—perhaps this is due to the fact that most people can’t really imagine the legendary fighter returning, after being unofficially retired by UFC President Dana White for a second time in June. After all, even “The Iceman’s” biggest admirers have to be asking themselves if it’s not time for Chuck to focus on other “Dancing with the Stars” like endeavours from here on out; dude’s been violently stopped three fights in a row.
Despite his KO loss to Rich Franklin at UFC 115, Liddell has still not made “it official”, making a lot of people like us here at Fix conclude Chuck’s seriously thinking about fighting again. In a recent interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune, the former light-heavyweight champ was quoted saying:
“It’s about how I feel and if I want to go back and make a run at a title and how far away that would be. And whatever I think is left in the tank. I’ve been doing PR stuff for the last couple months, and I’ll finally be home for the month. I’ll probably decide sometime in September, when I have time to relax.”
“I don’t feel like there’s anything left to prove. I still love fighting, but there’s a lot that goes into it. Maybe it might be time. I’m just not sure yet.”
Now, we could be and often are wrong, but if you put on your read between the lines glasses for a second, don’t you think the sentence ‘if Dana lets me I’ll fight’ is visible?

With only three weeks left before Fighting and Entertainment Group’s latest event, DREAM.16, the promotion announced three more bouts to it’s thin Sept. 25 card.
Made official at the press conference was a non-title bout between DREAM lightweight champ Shinya Aoki (24-5) vs. Marcus Aurelio (20-8), former DREAM lightweight champ Joachim Hansen (19-10-1) will move to featherweight to face Kazuyuki Miyata (9-7), and a second featherweight bout between Takeshi “Lion” Inoue (18-4) vs. Kazuyuki Miyata (9-7).
DREAM officials reconfirmed the light-heavyweight bout between Gegard Mousasi and Tatsuya Mizuno for the vacant DREAM title.
A bout between Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Jason “Mayhem” Miller was also made official after the promotion posted a promo video for the fight on their YouTube page.
“When I see Marcus Aurelio, I see him through the image of Gomi. While Gomi’s doing his best fighting in the states now, my hope is to do well in Japan and not lose [to Aurelio]. I’m on the same track as Gomi, I think. I’d like to have an opportunity to fight Gomi in the future,” said Aoki, who later asserted that though he isn’t aiming for Gomi per se, he has expected to cross paths with the former Pride champ someday.
“I don’t know why, but there’s a lot of negative information these days, and I want brighten up the combat sports world,” Aoki commented. “At today’s press conference, there were some questions that were asked that should have been handled online. We as fighters grow tired of some of these questions. I just want to do my best, fight well and brighten things with my fight in Nagoya.”

Lightweight bout: Shinya Aoki vs. Marcus Aurelio
Featherweight bout: Kazuyuki Miyata vs. Takeshi Inoue

On Friday, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that it was looking for college students to help them promote mixed martial arts and the UFC on campuses throughout the country.
If you love the sport and the UFC, then this job is probably for you.
As a part of the UFC College Rep Program, you’ll help introduce your peers to the UFC magazine, promote the UFC name, features, products, lifestyle and — of course — encourage readers and viewers. As a UFC College Rep, you are expected to be a true brand ambassador. By building your own network of fans on campus, you’ll become the “campus gateway” to the UFC. You will be the first to know of upcoming UFC features, while also occasionally receiving merchandise and invitations to exclusive events. Utilizing word of mouth marketing and social media tools, you’ll share the wealth with your peers.
You will also have the opportunity to:
• Promote and execute UFC events, from magazine launches to TUF tryouts to viewing parties.
• Be our “eyes and ears of the Octagon” on your campus, reporting on trends, attitudes, what’s in vs. what’s out.
• Volunteer at UFC events. You might even be able to host your own on-campus viewing party!
• Work with us to create a marketing plan for UFC on your campus.
• Receive monthly mailings, casting call information, newsletters and reports from inside the Octagon.
How do you go about applying for this job?
Well you fire off an email to [email protected] and in 250 words or less tell them why the job should be yours. Don’t forget to include your name, school, age, year of graduation, and links to facebook or twitter accounts.

CHICAGO, Ill. (September 3, 2010) – Bellator Fighting Championships today finalized the official main card fights for Bellator 28, which is taking place at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre in New Orleans on Sep. 9th, marking the promotion’s first trip to the city.
Headlining the card will be a lightweight battle between Season 2 Lightweight semifinalist Carey Vanier (9-3) and explosive UFC veteran Rich “No Love” Clementi (37-16-1).
Vanier TKO’d his way into the semi-finals in Season 2, but fell to submission specialist Toby Imada at Bellator 17. Vanier will be hungry for a win at Bellator 29, which marks his first fight back since the loss to Imada.
An eight year Navy veteran and eleven year, 54-fight MMA veteran, Clementi comes to Bellator Fighting Championships after spending the last decade fighting some of the toughest opponents MMA has to offer. Well known for stopping his opponents early, 20 of No Love’s 36 victories have come via submission with another nine being finished via KO or TKO.
Also on the card, will be a closely contested match-up between two powerful middleweights when Bellator Season 2 semifinalist Eric Schambari (12-2) takes on battle-tested UFC veteran Matt Horwich (25-15-1).
In featherweight action, hard-hitting Season 2 semifinalist Georgi “Insane” Karakhanyan (13-2-1) collides with dangerous WEC veteran Anthony Leone (8-1).
Karakhayan is understandably eager for a victory after dropping a unanimous decision to eventual Season 2 Featherweight Champion Joe Warren at Bellator 18.
The Fox Sports Net event will also feature an exciting lightweight fight between fast-rising NCAA Division I Wrestling Champion Eric Larkin and up-and-coming Louisiana native Marcus Andrusia.
“We’re happy to be headed o New Orleans,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “This event has some great fights scheduled and it should make for a great night of fights for New Orleans fans.”
Tickets for the event – which will also be broadcast LIVE nationwide on FOX Sports Net along with action-packed highlight shows that will air on NBC Saturday nights – are on sale now at ticketmaster.com

Former UFC light heavyweight champions Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson are set to meet on November 20 as part of the UFC 123 show in Detroit and many MMA fans are anticipating the matchup. Both fighters will be coming off losses, with Machida dropping his first ever recently when he lost the title to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Machida on paper seems to have more weapons, but as we all know anything can happen inside the Octagon. In a recent interview with GracieMag, Machida explained his thoughts on the fight:
First of all, he’s a former champion, so Rampage is someone with differential. A fight between two former champions couldn’t be more fitting, two fighters who want their place in the sun. He’s a strong guy who has good boxing and wrestling. I feel he’s a bit limited standing, but he’s really strong and, although he may defend well on the ground, he’s not that good there, either. As I feel MMA is a sport in constant evolution, one tends to seek out all the possibilities, regardless of the facet of the fight that comes up. I’m going to exploit Rampage where he isn’t totally dominant. But I’m prepared for anything, whether it’s standing or on the ground.
