Highly touted UFC heavyweight fighter Cain Velasquez is next in line to face current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, and while it’s not official it should go down at UFC 121. UFC 121 is tentatively(non officially) set to take place on October 23, 2010 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and will be the fourth time the promotion returns. Velasquez is a legit threat to Lesnar’s reign as champ, but he’s definitely going up to the highest level in this bout.

Fitch has defeated all fighters in the UFC he’s faced, with the notable exception of UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre but his style of fighting has left him few fans, and it seems that even UFC brass don’t want Fitch having another chance at the title. A win over Alves will certainly move him up the ladder, and make Fitch’s future title aspirations much more solid.

CHICAGO, Ill. (July 16, 2010) — Bellator Fighting Championships put yet another piece in place for its much-anticipated Season 3 Heavyweight Tournament today with the addition of one of the top free-agent heavyweight fighters in Europe, Spanish submission specialist Rogent Lloret.
The Gracie Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and M1 Global veteran has not lost a fight in more than three years and enters the Heavyweight Tournament with a 9-1-1 overall pro record. He is known for his smothering ground game — submitting six of his nine victims, including four by arm triangle choke — but also displayed his striking prowess when he KO’d Serbian MMA veteran Miodrag Petković with a devastating high head kick this past April.
Lloret is the sixth confirmed participant in the tournament along with undefeated European finisher Damian “The Polish Pitbull” Grabowski, power-punching British behemoth Neil Grove, heavy-handed UFC veteran Eddie Sanchez, Seattle-area knockout artist Mike “300” Hayes and Georgia-based ground-and-pound specialist Scott Barrett.
The tournament begins Aug. 12th on FOX Sports Net.
“Ever since we decided that we would hold a Heavyweight Tournament, we were hoping to sign Rogent Lloret,” said Bellator founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “He was one of the top heavyweight free agents in Europe for a reason: he is devastating on the ground and has a very underrated standup attack as well. He’ll be a tough draw for whomever he faces in our Heavyweight Tournament.”
Rogent was born and raised near Barcelona, Spain, and lives there today.
He made his MMA debut in 2006 but first drew widespread attention in late 2008 with a dazzling first-round armbar submission of top Polish heavyweight Michal Kita at an M1 Challenge event in Finland.
“Signing with Bellator means a big step forward in my career as a fighter since it provides me the opportunity to face other great fighters in an event with major media repercussions worldwide,” Lloret said. “My goal is to advance as many rounds as possible and offer exciting fights to solidify my reputation as a fighter and Bellator’s as an MMA event.”

BJ Penn is quietly preparing for his upcoming rematch for the UFC lightweight title against current champion Frankie Edgar, but he’s still as confident as ever. Penn losing to Edgar was considered to be a huge upset, and Penn doesn’t think that he showed his opponent much of what he can do. Here’s the quote, via BJPenn.com:
“Without giving too much away, I really don’t think he’ll be able to compete with me come August 28th. I think we’re going to have too much for him. I think he’s going to have a false sense of security. He really doesn’t know who I am after the first fight. He’s going to be shocked when he finds out the real me.”
Sounds like Penn still has the same swagger as always. UFC 118 is set for August 28 in Boston, and will also feature another big lightweight bout between Kenny Florian and Gray Maynard. The MMA News will bring you all the pre and post coverage of the event.

“Big Country” Roy Nelson is certainly a very capable fighter, despite his big belly and overall “sloppy” look, and he’s next fight could be the toughest of his career. Nelson looks to take on high quality UFC heavyweight Junior dos Santos on August 7 at UFC 117 in Oakland, California and Nelson is hoping to continue his unbeaten streak inside the Octagon. Nelson’s critics have no love for Nelson’s style of fighting, or his lack of muscle tone, but Nelson has shown that looks can be deceiving and he truly believes that his toughest opponent is himself, as he pointed out during a recent interview with UFC.com:
“My toughest opponent is always me. Any fights that I’ve lost were all because of me. I know I was the better fighter in every one of them. The only person who actually beat me was myself. Some of them I’m sure I won and some of them were a result of questionable refereeing and judging, so our records are actually a lot closer if you look at it that way. I don’t sit and stew about my losses, I just work to make sure I don’t make the same mistakes twice. I think any opponent I have is tough. Junior has knocked out some tough guys. I think he has already fought for his title shot. When he beat Werdum, he should have fought for the title in his next fight. It’s one of those things. Styles make fights and we match up really well.”
It should be a great matchup with both fighters looking to move into title contention with a win. Junior has proven his ability to strike with the best fighters in the world and Nelson will have to be careful not to be the next highlight reel victim of the Brazillian.
