[PHOTO] It Looks Like BJ Penn Isn’t the Only One In Ridiculous Shape for UFC on FOX 5

Remember that flabby, somewhat haggard version of Mauricio Rua that showed up to about every other one of his fights in the UFC with bum knees and a shit gas tank? He died. And now his freakishly fit doppleganger is here to bang all of our girlfriends and wives. So I have both, big whoop wannafightaboutit?

As was the case for BJ Penn, it appears that Shogun has whipped himself into damn near the best shape we have ever seen him in for his upcoming fight with Alexander Gustafsson. And it’s surprisingly appropriate; both Rua and Penn are aging legends looking to make one last run at a title shot, and both men must get past two highly-touted young bucks in order to do so. And no one wants to show up out of shape on the same network that airs The Choice. A loss is a loss, but having Pauly D mock your love handles with a laser pointer is a punishment no person on this earth deserves.

Although Shogun has been given a slightly better chance of pulling off the upset than Penn, both men are considerable underdogs heading into Saturday’s event, so make sure to swing by CP at 8 p.m. EST to see if these two will rise from the ashes or go down in flames. And if you’re in the Boston/Dorchester area, hit up either Karma or myself on Twitter to see which dive bar we’ll be catching the fights from and come join us. We apologize in advance for getting you thrown out of said dive bar, but that bouncer was totally giving one of us the stink eye.

Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen Had a Pretty Sweet Thanksgiving Together, Thanks for Asking [PHOTO]

(Click for full-size imageProps: Triumph United)

We shared this on our Facebook page on Thursday, but it’s worth a re-post for those of you who weren’t glued to your computers and mobile devices during the holiday. The photo above shows Chael Sonnen predictably going for a leg while Jon Jones — a menacing figure even without a sharp object — puts on his best bad-guy face and straight up dwarfs the gangster from West Linn. We’d like to congratulate the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board for their bravery in sanctioning this one.

In the pro wrestling world, this sort of thing is called “breaking kayfabe,” a moment where the fictional storylines and personas are temporarily discarded, revealing that the whole thing is fake. Yeah, I know Jones has been warming up to Sonnen, who is “pretty decent and pretty classy” all of a sudden. But damn, it sure didn’t take long to go from calling each other cowards, cheaters, mental midgets, and selfish, entitled brats, to “bro, are you bringing the cranberries or do I have to run out to Whole Foods again?”

So how do these two really feel about each other — and how much of their interaction on the next season of TUF will be staged for our amusement?

Halloweentime Gallery: MMA’s Weirdest Walkout Costumes

(For pure intimidation factor, nothing tops Colin “Freakshow” Fletcher as Bicycle Clown. / Full gallery is after the jump.)

Halloween is just eight days away, and you and your girlfriend are probably going to do the plug-and-socket thing again. Ugh, you guys — so lame. Take some inspiration from these MMA fighters who added some creepiness and humor to their entrances, and tell us about your own Halloween costume plans in the comments section.

Photos of the Day: The Nogueira’s and Anderson Silva Visit Fabio Maldonado in the Hospital

(“You got punched where? And by who? I’m not sure I understand.”)

If anything, UFC 153 provided us with several entertaining moments to confirm what we already knew, or at least hoped, to be true:

1. This Anderson Silva guy is for real.
2. This Glover Texmexamerica guy is also for real. Look out Page.
3. Jon Fitch is in fact capable of entertaining a crowd. (fight it….fight it…)
4. This Jiu Jitsu stuff works.
5. Fabio Maldanado is the closest thing to a zombie this earth may ever witness.

That last lesson came at a price that Maldanado will likely pay down the line in terms of brain function, but who needs brains when you have to special order your underwear to hold your massive balls? And if there’s any country out there that appreciates as gritty a performance as Maldonado gave on Saturday, it’s Brazil. And while they rallied around fellow Brazilian Glover Teixeira’s solid performance against Maldonado, they were quick to support their fallen comrade as well.

So in an effort to support Maldonado’s incredible display of heart, fellow UFC 153 participants/Brazilians Anderson Silva and Antonio Nogueira (along with Lil Nog) paid Maldonado a visit in the hospital. Tears were spilled, laughs were shared, and we’re pretty sure at least one of them fired up the grill, so check out the pair of photos and let us know who you’d like to see Maldonado fight next now that his UFC future is safe for the moment.

Ronda Rousey and Carmen Electra Get Some Mitt-Work In, For Some Reason [PHOTOS]

(Props: TitoCouture.com / Click for larger version.)

Let’s get one thing straight — Carmen Electra has been an MMA fan longer than you have. So I guess these photos of Ronda Rousey giving Dennis Rodman’s ex-wife a striking lesson shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise; Carmen has always like to stay in shape, after all. But still…whose idea was this? What did these two have to talk about, outside of perhaps a mutual distaste for Kim Kardashian? And what does it feel like to be hit by Carmen Electra, anyway? Does she put her legs into those punches, or is she as noodle-armed as Paris Hilton? Where’s the goddamned video?

Check out two more photos after the jump, and see a few more right here.

Photo: Chael Sonnen Believes in Therapy Through Laughter

Urijah Faber may have come up short in every sense of the word against Renan Barao last weekend, but fortunately for him, he received some sound advice from undisputed middleweight champion Chael Sonnen in the aftermath of his loss that will undoubtedly alter the course of his career from this day forward. As you recall, Sonnen became the first man in MMA History to defeat Anderson Silva twice at UFC 148, when he straight-up embarrassed the now-retired “pound-for-pound great” by KO’ing him with a second round spinning backfist so spectacular that the WWE had to steal it to make one of their fights more entertaining and less gay and stuff.

With an unblemished record of 32-0, the closest Sonnen has ever been to tasting defeat was the time he was served a severely undercooked steak by “The Spider’s” wife after he defeated Silva the first time (by fifth round powerbomb at UFC 117). We know some of you cynics would like to chime in about how Faber is now 0-5 in his last 5 title fights, and that Sonnen’s advice is probably falling on deaf ears, but we beg to differ. Because Chael Sonnen does not speak to losers. He molds winners out of them, or creates them when they get in his way.
