The celebratory tenth-year anniversary ONE: X event hosted by ONE Championship has been postponed from its slated December 5. landing pad, due to a recent viral outbreak in the promotion’s home country of Singapore.

The event, which was scheduled to take place on December 5. and featured a special rules matchup between Flyweight Grand Prix victor and former UFC flyweight titleholder, Demetrious Johnson as well as Muay Thai practitioner, the decorated, Rodtang Jitmuangnon, has now been officially postponed until the early stages of next year, amid a record-high viral outbreak in Singapore.

ONE: X officially postponed until early 2022 following viral outbreak in Singapore.

ONE Championship president, Chatri Sityodtong released an official statement this afternoon on his Facebook page, confirming that the anniversary event had been halted and subsequently postponed as a result of the viral outbreak.

BREAKING NEWS: Due to the record high outbreak in Singapore, ONE: X will now take place early next year instead of December 5.,” Sityodtong’s statement read. “The Singapore Government continues to do an extraordinary job in managing the situation for the country. I am full of gratitude and appreciation for its incredible leadership and excellence. Please note that our regular shows for November and December are expected to continue as per usual. It is a tricky time for everyone in Singapore, but I am confident that we will all get through these times by working together with compassion, resilience, creativity, and patience. Majulah Singapura!

ONE: X is not only a celebration of our tenth year anniversary, but it is also going to be the biggest event in our history. DJ vs. Rodtang, Fernandes vs. Lineker, and Le vs. Tonon are just a few fights on this mega card. I cannot wait to unveil what else we have in store for fans with ONE: X. Stay tuned for more exciting news!

Along with the highly-anticipated matching of Johnson and Rodtang, the promotion is also expected to field an undisputed bantamweight title fight between two-time division best, Bibiano Fernandes, as well as the surging knockout ace, former UFC bantamweight contender, John Lineker.

In a featherweight title bout, Thanh Le was scheduled to defend his title opposite surging Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu player, New Jersey native, Garry Tonon — with that bout including the aforenoted pairings of Fernandes and Lineker, as well as Johnson and Rodtang now all postponed.

Former UFC welterweight title challenger and colour-commentator, Dan Hardy has claimed that he’s “most interested” in a proposed caged Muay Thai clash with veteran kickboxer, John Wayne Parr under the ONE Championship banner — but stressed that he had numerous options on the table.

Nottingham native, Hardy was granted his release upon request from the promotion recently, after he explained how the UFC would no longer be interested in booking him opposite fellow veterans like Donald Cerrone, Nick Diaz, or one-time foe, Carlos Condit. Following confirmation of his release, Hardy is not free to field offers for other interested promotions.

The 39-year-old has been linked to a potential move to Chatri Sityodtong‘s Singapore-based banner, ONE Championship, having claimed that a caged Muay Thai matchup with Queensland veteran, Parr — and according to him, both men have a verbal agreement to meet, with terms with ONE Championship all that is needed to bring the bout into reality.

A comment was made the other day by John Wayne Parr saying he’d be keen to fight me if I was to step into hte ONE (Championship) circle,” Hardy told MMA Junkie. “That is the fight that makes sense. I’ve got a lot respect for John Wayne Parr. He’s a dangerous Muay Thai fighter who, I’m stepping into his rule set, but with my gloves. So I think we’ll have a lot of fun, and it’s an ideal first fight back for me because I can focus on the striking arts, then maybe move on to a different rule set after — maybe MMA or kickboxing.

It’s agreed between John (Wayne Parr) and I, but we need to come to an agreement with ONE Championship,” Hardy explained. “There are a couple of options on the table elsewhere, but that’s the one I’m most interested in right now.
The veteran former title challenger has yet to compete professionally since a homecoming UFC Fight Night Nottingham outing opposite Amir Sadollah back in September of 2012. Hardy would score a unanimous decision victory over the Brooklyn native.

The former two-weight Cage Warriors champion holds a professional record of 25-10 — which includes a résumé littered with wins over the likes of Daniel Weichel, Akihiro Gono, Rory Markham, Marcus Davis, Mike Swick, and Duane Ludwig to name a few.

45-year-old veteran striker, Parr last featured professionally under the ONE Championship banner back in April of this year at ONE on TNT 3 where he suffered a second round high-kick knockout defeat to decorated Dutch kickboxer, Nieky Holzken.

Boasting a 99-34-1 professional record kickboxing competition, the storied Australian has bested the likes of common-foe, Ludwig, Cosmo Alexandre, Mike Zambidis, Dmitry Valent, Yodsanklai Fairtex, Jordan Tai, UFC lightweight contender, Brad Riddell, and Marco Pique.

There is major news in the world of kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Sambo.

The International Olympic Committee has announced that the three combat sports mentioned above have been granted Olympic recognition. While kickboxing and sambo had provisional recognition dating back to 2018, this is a full recognition. Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Sambo join lacrosse, Icestocksport, and the International Cheer Union in the new wave of officially recognized Olympic sports.

Vasily Shestakov, the President of the International Sambo Federation, had the following to say (h/t Inside The Games).

“Today, a truly joyful moment has come to our big sambo family. FIAS received provisional IOC recognition three years ago, and during this time we’ve had to prove to the whole world and ourselves that we deserve more. This period coincided with a difficult situation in the world – the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected all aspects of life, including organizing and conducting of sports events.

“But we have learned to work in crisis conditions, adapt to various restrictions and conduct international tournaments under unconventional conditions. At first, the mission seemed impossible, nevertheless, joint efforts let us manage. This became possible largely due to the well-coordinated work of national and continental sambo federations and, of course, the support of our general partner Rosneft.”

Roy Baker, President of the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations, also weighed in.

“Again we make history for our sport and this is a memorable day for our entire community and an inspiration to continue to develop our sport within the Olympic family of sports. Today I am grateful to President Bach for his continued support and to the members of the IOC for the confidence in bringing us into the Olympic family of sports.

“As a leader of the organization, I simply needed a boost like this to continue to drive our sport ensuring it has a sustainable future amongst the combat sports within the Olympic family. Thank you to everybody in our organization who has contributed. Thank you to the IOC Members who have accepted us, to the IOC Sports Department and to the IOC Executive Board and its President, Thomas Bach, for having understood our sport and recommended us.”

Do you think we’ll ever see MMA in the Olympics?
