Anthony Pettis will welcome fan-favorite, Nate Diaz back into the Octagon in the co-main event of UFC 241. It will mark the first time the fighter from Stockton will fight since August of 2016 at UFC 202.

Why Diaz wanted to return against Pettis is simple. The two have not liked each other for a long time. However, “Showtime,” says after the fight they can squash the beef if they want.

“Obviously he’s not jealous now,” Pettis said to MMA Junkie at media day. “He got what he wanted. That fame and notoriety that I had that he was jealous of at the time, he got it now. I feel like it would be stupid for him to say he’s jealous of me now because that’s what he wanted. But it is weird because we definitely had some beef. But if there’s no beef then it is what it is. I’ll shake his hand after the fight and we can go and hang out after I solve this.”

It is no doubt a massive fight for both fighters, and Anthony Pettis expects another big finish at welterweight. In his debut at 170-pounds in the UFC, he knocked out Stephen Thompson and knows he will do the same against Nate Diaz.

“I’m predicting a knockout,” Pettis said. “I’m going to find those legs, I’m going to find that body and I’m going to find that chin. Or a submission because he’s going to get hit. I’m hitting this guy on the chin and if he tries to do a takedown dumbly I’ll guillotine him too. But I want a knockout.”

Who do you think will win the fight between Anthony Pettis and Nate Diaz?

Michael Bisping believes ring rust will come into play when Nate Diaz faces Anthony Pettis at UFC 241.

Diaz will make his return to the Octagon against Pettis in a welterweight contest on August 17 in Anaheim, California. It will be nearly three years to the day since his last fight against Conor McGregor back in 2016.

While ring rust doesn’t exist for some like Dominick Cruz, Bisping believes Diaz’s lack of fight time makes this a dangerous fight for him.

“I think this is a dangerous fight for Nate Diaz, especially coming back,” Bisping said on his podcast (via MMA News). “He hasn’t fought since Conor McGregor, right? 2016, that’s three years ago. That’s a long time.”

“Now, he’s a pentathlete or whatever he is. Triathlons and all that type of stuff. That’s all well and good, but that doesn’t mean just cause someone runs around a f*cking track and swims a bunch they can go in there and fight. Now of course, he has the mentality but still, and I say this with respect [be]cause I respect both Diaz brothers and what they’ve accomplished in this sport — time away from the sport can change things. And three years is a lot of f*cking time and Pettis has still been in there the whole time.”

Will Ring Rust Be A Factor For Diaz?

Bisping certainly has a point.

While Diaz is certainly one of the fitter athletes in the UFC, this is the longest he has not fought in his professional career, let alone in the promotion.

Pettis, meanwhile, has fought seven times since the Stockton native last competed and is coming off an emphatic knockout win over Stephen Thompson.

It should then come no surprise that “Showtime” recently opened the fight as the early -150 favorite. Diaz, on the other hand, is a +130 underdog.

UFC 241 will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic. Diaz and Pettis will serve as the co-main event.

Nick Diaz On Return Fight: We’re Going To Do Something Big

After taking on Anderson Silva in the main event of January 2015’s UFC 183, outspoken UFC welterweight Nick Diaz was handed a ludicrous five year suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission due to a positive drug test for Marijuana metabolites.

The Stockton native recently reached an agreement with the commission, however, lessening his suspension to 18 months, and making him eligible to return to action August 1, 2016.

Despite not winning a fight since 2011, Diaz remains a huge draw and a huge fan favorite which usually lands him in massive fights. As for his return, “The Stockton Bad Boy” expects no different:

“I think my brother is probably going to get a fight before me, so I am just working on the rest of the people I am training with on their camps. Then we will establish who I will be fighting next. I am only trying to go big, though, I am not trying to do no small fights. So, if we’re going to do any fights, we are going to do something big. But, for now I am focusing on my younger brother and the rest of the academy in northern California, the team I train with, Team Black.” Diaz recently told MMA Mayhem TV.

Younger brother Nate recently returned from a year long layoff, taking out Michael Johnson in impressive fashion at last month’s UFC on FOX 17 from Orlando, Florida. The younger Diaz brother was actually recently rumored to be in talks regarding a potential fight with former 155-pound kingpin Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, although no confirmation has come just yet.

While helping Nate prepare for what lies ahead, Nick could also be gearing up for something huge, at least according to the former Strikeforce champion himself.

Who would you like to see Diaz take on upon his return sometime later this year?
