Just moments before Nate Marquardt was to weigh in for his high-profile welterweight debut in the UFC, the MMA community was informed that Marquardt did not clear his medical exams and would not be competing.
Although the public does not have many details, UFC President Dana White said he is disgusted with Nate Marquardt’s actions and that he has been released by the UFC.
Assuming that his release also extends to UFC sister promotion Strikeforce, then the next biggest promotion would be Bellator.
As it turns out, there are actually a lot of good matchups for him there.
Quick head’s up, Nation. While Nate Marquardt has been mum since a series of unfortunate events over the weekend about what exactly is going on, it’s been announced that he would be addressing his issues today. Well, surprise, surprise: the Barbara Walters of MMA (and we mean that in the most complimentary way possible) landed the interview, with Marquardt scheduled to appear on The MMA Hour today at 1pm.
What are you trying to tell us, Nate?

What We Know (not much):
* Marquardt completed his paperwork and was licensed to fight, but was unable to clear up a medical issue with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission.
* Whatever it is, the Baldfather is pissed. Nate was summarily fired for … whatever it is.
Anything beyond that is just rumor and speculation, although there are a ton of “insiders” willing to share the “scoop”. We would link to some of this speculation, but there aren’t enough words in this post to link to all of them, and they’re all pretty worthless at this point.
We’ll all get the story straight from the man himself here in about an hour, so everyone just be cool. Tune in here at 1, and you’ll know as much about this as we do. Unless you happen to be Nate Marquardt, in which case, dude, call us.

Dana White: “Nate Marquardt Has to Man Up
Bleacher Report’s Jordy McElroy:
The reasoning behind Nate Marquardt’s failure to pass his required medical examinations is shrouded with more mystery than a Sherlock Holmes novel.
A day after firing the former middleweight contender, UFC President Dana White sounded off on the UFC on Versus 4 pre-fight show.
He stated that he was upset with Marquardt for not addressing the issues handed down to him by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission (PSAC).
According to White and the PSAC, they are legally bound from releasing details on the situation, and it’s completely up to Marquardt whether or not he wants to explain the situation to the fans.
“Pennsylvania laws are unfortunate that the commission can’t come out and announce medical records or medical situations with fighters, but I think it’s pretty clear to the fans and everybody else that I’m pretty disgusted with Nate Marquardt. He’s been cut from the UFC. He won’t fight in the UFC ever again,” White told Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com.
“Bottom line is, what Nate Marquardt’s thing is, it’s bad enough to be cut from the UFC.”

UFC on Versus 4: Dana White Fires Nate Marquardt After Failing Medicals
Bleacher Report’s Matt Juul:
In a stunning turn of events, UFC president Dana White announced via a short video posted on his Twitter account that Nate Marquardt will no longer fight for the UFC.
“It’s true. He failed his medicals. Not only is he out of this fight, out of the main event on Versus, he will no longer be with the UFC,” White said.
Earlier today, Marquardt was pulled from the main event of Sunday’s planned bout with Rick Story due to yet to be known reasons that led to him not being medically cleared.
The bout, originally against Anthony Johnson who was forced to withdraw from the fight, was going to be Marquardt’s debut at welterweight.
Charlie Brenneman will now face Rick Story instead while the Pat Barry versus Cheick Kongo fight will be promoted to the main event.
Marquardt has yet to speak on the failed medical clearance or being released.
