UFC on Versus 4 Results: Joe Stevenson vs. Javier Vazquez

Joe Stevenson (31-13) came into this fight against Javier Vazquez (15-5) on a three fight losing streak, a number that has been the point at which several UFC fighters have been cut in the past.

The fights started off with Vazquez taking Stevenson down and Stevenson clamped on an armbar that was very tight. Vazquez was able to slip from the hold.

The fight then went back to standing. Vazquez then gained another takedown and into the guard of Stevenson.

The clock was ticking down in the first round as the crowd began to get restless with the slow ground game the fighters were displaying.

Halfway through the fight, Stevenson was not looking like a fighter that was fighting for his UFC career.

Vazquez sank in a guillotine choke that Stevenson ably defended with 2:30 left in the second round.

With 1:25 left in the round Vazquez took the back of Stevenson and attempted a choke that he was unable to sink.

Stevenson was smiling as the round progressed while Vazquez was starting to look gassed.

Vazquez opened the third round taking some deep breaths in his corner.

Stevenson showed a lot of movement as the round progressed, but he was doing very little offensively.

The clock ticked down below one minute and Stevenson and Vazquez heard the boos from the crowd.

The fight went to the cards: 30-27, 29-28, 30-27 for Vazquez and we very well may have seen the last of Joe Stevenson in the UFC.

UFC on Versus 4: PSAC Suspends Nate Marquardt Indefinitely

Bleacher Report’s Todd Seyler:

According to MMAJunkie.com, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission (PSAC) has suspended UFC veteran Nate “The Great” Marquardt indefinitely.

Executive Director for the PSAC stated that Marquardt failed the necessary requirements to be sanctioned for this evening’s fight.

Provided the opportunity to address the clearance prior to tonight’s main event, Sirb commented on Marquardt’s suspension stating that “He’s been put on suspension. When he (Marquardt) meets those requirements, he’ll be taken off. How long of a suspension (it will be) is up to him.”

Confusion still surrounds the reason for Marquardt’s denial of a license here in Pennsylvania. However, Sirb emphasized that Marquardt knew exactly what was expected of him.

“(It’s) pretty straightforward stuff. You’ve got to meet these requirements, and there’s no ifs, ands or buts about it. Unfortunately, he did not. I felt for the kid. I really did. He knew about it, and I think he was trying,” Sirb said.
