While Charles Bennett is a known name from the classic days of MMA, particularly his time with PRIDE and King of the Cage, the combat sports world had not been kind to him with 21 straight losses between 2017 and 2024.

But the man formerly known as “Krazy Horse,” now nicknamed “Felony,” was able to finally snap that skid on August 9 with a win over Justin Howard under the Island Fights banner.

In the second round of the fight, Bennett was able to get into mount on Howard and land some ground-and-pound before locking in a rear-naked choke for the tap.

Charles Bennett Breaks Long 7-Year Losing Skid Across Combat Sports

Bennett made his professional MMA debut back in 1999, with his win over Howard marking “Felony’s” 79th in the sport.

His opponent history has included the likes of Duane Ludwig, Urijah Faber, K.J. Noons, Bobby Green, Luis Palomino, Ray Cooper III, Brok Weaver, Kevin Croom, and Jason Knight.

With an MMA record of 31-46-2 after the win over Howard, Bennett has rarely competed for championships. His most prominent high-stakes title fights were a loss to Dokonjonosuke Mishima in a 2005 PRIDE Lightweight Grand Prix replacement bout and his defeat to Faber, which was for the KOTC bantamweight championship.

Bennett, who has also competed in RIZIN and EliteXC, has been known for his pre-fight antics and his unpredictable fighting style.

Transgender mixed martial arts fighter Alana McLaughlin will be the subject of an upcoming Fuse Media documentary titled Unfightable.

McLaughlin, a former member of the U.S. Army Special Forces, became only the second openly trans woman to compete in MMA. She followed in the footsteps of Fallon Fox, who went 5-1 in the cage between 2012 and 2014.

“Lady Feral’s” life and entry into combat sports is set to be detailed by Emmy-winning director and producer Marc J. Perez and La Jaula Studios in a documentary recently acquired by Fuse Media.

The entertainment company announced the news on social media.

“We’re thrilled to announce our first theatrical film release the striking new documentary, ‘Unfightable.’ The real fight is outside the ring in this documentary from award-winning filmmaker Marc Perez chronicling a trans MMA fighter’s courageous journey for acceptance.

“Follow the journey of Alana McLaughlin (@lady_feral), a transgender woman venturing into the world of MMA, an arena notorious for its challenges and biases against transgender athletes. Having fought battles throughout her life, she now sets her sights on professional fighting. This is a trans journey unbowed, unafraid and unapologetically real-life.”

The Unfightable documentary is set to premiere in New York on September 13 at the Village East Theater. After a one-week run there, the documentary heads to Los Angeles’ Laemmle Noho 7 between Sept. 20 and Sept. 26.

The news comes amid the controversy surrounding women’s boxing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, regarding the participation of Algeria’s Imane Khelif and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting.

The pair had been disqualified after allegedly failing gender eligibility tests at the 2023 World Championships, staged by the International Boxing Association (IBA) — a governing body suspended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2019 because of concerns over its finances, governance, ethics, refereeing, and judging.

Khelif came under an onslaught of abuse on social media and incorrect claims that she is transgender. The IOC have been firm with its backing, insisting that she and Yu-ting had been disqualified by the IBA last year without “due process.”

Further doubt was thrown over the IBA’s claims after figures in the governing body made conflicting claims about the bans they imposed during a widely criticized press conference earlier this week.

McLaughlin Won Professional MMA Debut By Submission In 2021

McLaughlin became a medical sergeant in 2007 and was deployed to Afghanistan as part of a 12-person unit. After opting not to re-enlist following six years of service and later transitioning in 2016, the American made her professional fighting debut in 2021.

She competed under the banner of Combate Global, sharing the cage with Celine Provost of France. McLaughlin had her hand raised after a difficult start to the bout, finding a submission via rear-naked choke in round two.

McLaughlin hasn’t competed since, a fact she put down to Combate Global’s surprise at the backlash it received for staging her debut.

“I think I really had high hopes when I got that first pro fight,” McLaughlin told Bloody Elbow in 2023. “And I thought there was going to be more to it. But I also think that the executives at Combate (Global) sort of underestimated the vitriol that was going to be coming my way.”

A record has been set at the 2024 instalment of The Olympic Games by Cuban wrestler Mijaín López.

In fact, López was able to check off two Olympic records with his latest gold medal win by becoming the oldest medallist in the history of the competition at 41 years old.

He has also become the first athlete to win a staggering five consecutive gold medals in the same event by winning the top prize in 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and now 2024.

After proving himself to be the best in the world from Beijing to London to Rio to Tokyo and now Paris, he ended what will forever be a legendary run in the sport by taking off his shoes and leaving them on the mat to mark the end of his Greco-Roman wrestling career.

Not only did he make history as one of the greatest competitors to ever grace the games, he sealed the historic win in dominant fashion.

His former training partner Yasmani Acosta Fernández is another elite wrestler but as a fellow Cuban, he was never able to get ahead of López in the pecking order.

After becoming a Chilean citizen, he took home the silver after being convincingly beaten 6-0 by his former countryman.

MMA Fans React To Mijaín López Retiring After Making History

Wrestling is always going to be a crucial aspect of mixed martial arts and so many top fighters have achieved success in the cage after coming through this background.

With that in mind, MMA fans reacted on social media to the record-setting Olympian going out on top as López left Paris with another emphatic performance.

“Man if he went to ufc he woulda dominated the heavyweight division easily n been rich”

“Get this kid a ufc contract”

“Dana will offer him 2K/2k to fight on DWCS”

Shortly after his latest corner assignment in Abu Dhabi last Saturday, Khabib Nurmagomedov received some kind words from a figure that has been on record as a big fan of his.

The former US President Donald Trump has always been tied to the sport of MMA to some degree and just like any fight fan, he has his favorites.

Trump has mentioned the former lightweight champion in the past and even posted on social media about it, after meeting him whilst in attendance at UFC 302.

During a recent stream alongside Adin Ross, he said that “The Eagle” is number one on his own personal list.

Nurmagomedov’s long-time coach turned fellow corner Javier Mendez gave his reaction to this in a recent interview with Red Corner MMA.

“No I haven’t seen it and I’m not surprised, Donald Trump has spoken always highly about Khabib and what a great fighter he thinks and also, Donald Trump from the very beginning back when the UFC just started and they would get into the Trump Towers, their hotels and Donald Trump was one of the few people that took a chance on them back in the day. So, Donald Trump’s an MMA fan so not surprising that he would choose ‘The Eagle’ because we all choose ‘The Eagle’, I choose ‘The Eagle’.”

Javier Mendez On Why The UFC Decided To Release New Conor McGregor & Khabib Nurmagomedov Footage

On July 15, the UFC released the latest episode of their “UFC Muted” series on YouTube which strips away the commentary so you can hear audio from fights that wasn’t possible before.

The subject of this particular instalment was sure to bring attention due to it being no-commentary clips of the biggest fight in UFC history, Conor McGregor vs “The Eagle”.

Mendez was asked to give his thoughts on why the UFC decided to release this footage at this time in particular.

He explained how in his opinion, this was done to keep Nurmagomedov in the spotlight ahead of his return to the corner this past weekend, where he helped his cousin Umar Nurmagomedov to stay undefeated against Cory Sandhagen in the main event.

He said that the promotion knows what they’re doing and if they can’t have the former champion back inside the Octagon, they’ll look to make the most out of his star quality in other ways.

“I believe the UFC’s genius at what they do. I believe they’re building the ‘young eagle’ situation because Khabib was in the corner and they showed the corner. Why would you show the corners if you’re not trying to build that as a corner. So no, UFC, they go with the algorithm, they know what they’re doing and I believe that’s what they’re doing. They’re building up Khabib as the next great coach and he is. He’s on track to being the next great coach if not the greatest coach. So I believe the UFC is playing that narrative because that’s a smart move on their part.”

But while many will look at the Max Holloway last-second throwdown KO of Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 as their favorite, kickboxer Taimu Hisai gave that nomination a run for its money.

Hisai provided fight fans with a major finish in his Muay Thai bout with Chuut Seryvanthong at Knock Out 2024 Vol. 3.

With less than 10 seconds to go in the opening round of their fight, Hisai countered a Seryvanthong right hand by throwing his body in a spinning motion and landing his left heel right on the button, completing a rare rolling thunder knockout.

Joe Rogan recently reiterated his stance that the Olympic Games are primarily profit-driven ventures for the major investors that back them, while the athletes themselves receive negligible monetary compensation.

The Olympic Games stand as the pinnacle of global sporting events, drawing thousands of top-class athletes from across the globe to compete in an extensive array of competitions every four years.

The 33rd Summer Olympics are currently taking place in Paris, France. Since the opening ceremony on July 26, this year’s games have been shrouded in controversy. The organizers have had to apologize for certain performances held along the River Seine that were seen by many as blasphemous. Critics argue that these acts parodied Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting, “The Last Supper.”

However, the veteran UFC color commentator has a different bone to pick with the Olympics, primarily revolving around the meager financial rewards for the participating athletes…

Rogan Lambasts Olympic Stakeholders For Creating Unfavorable System For Athletes

During a recent episode of his JRE MMA Show, featuring UFC light heavyweight fighter Khalil Rountree as the guest, Rogan once again leveled scathing criticism at the modern Olympics and its underlying system.

The 56-year-old MMA commentator claimed that the substantial revenue generated by stakeholders and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from these events fails to benefit the athletes who actually perform. He accused the Olympic leadership of exploiting athletes while reaping enormous financial rewards.

“The Olympics is a giant scam,” Rogan said. “There are two things going on simultaneously, okay? You have the best athletes in the world participating in their disciplines. And then on top of that, you have enormous amounts of money being made, and none of it’s going to the athletes. It is a giant scam.”

Rogan further blasted the apparent parody of “The Last Supper” painting, asserting that it was deliberately crafted to offend religious sentiments.

“So the kind of people that are putting together that ridiculous ceremony, we got a bunch of drag queens in ‘The Last Supper’ that nobody understands because it’s not made by athletes, it’s not made by the Olympics, it’s made by the people that are in charge of putting the Olympics out. So they’re the ones who are reaping all the money and sucking all the cash out of these athletes.”

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games mark a groundbreaking first, as the IOC will directly compensate winning athletes, awarding $50,000 to each gold medalist.

Until this year, athletes typically relied on personal sponsorships for their income and received financial backing from their national Olympic organizations.
