Former interim UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane is no stranger to making headlines, and he continues to do so with his recent impression of the Diaz brothers.

Both Nick and Nate Diaz have very similar mannerisms to one another, and Gane was spot on with his impression of them:

His posture and stance is perfect, the way he’s puffing out his lips, the way he’s posing for a staredown and the way he’s holding his fists, the double middle fingers, the steps he takes as he’s walking away, the fist pound in his opposite hand, Gane perfectly impersonated them.

Ciryl Gane is looking to return to the octagon in March, and is currently targeting a showdown with former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

The UFC has been trying to book Jones against current heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, and has been attempting to book that fight for nearly a year. Jones has been teasing a move to heavyweight since 2013, including ever since he vacated the light-heavyweight title in February of 2020 following his controversial win over Dominick Reyes.

Many fans are skeptical of whether or not Jones will even return, not to mention, Ngannou is technically a free agent right now that hasn’t been happy with his contract since winning the UFC belt in March of 2021.

Gane was handily picking Ngannou apart in their champion versus champion clash back in January of 2021, winning the first two rounds of their encounter. However, a wrestling-heavy attack from Ngannou in rounds three, four, and five won him the fight.

Ngannou hasn’t fought since then, while Gane has since KO’d top contender Tai Tuivasa in his UFC Paris homecoming; Tuivasa was on a five-fight knockout streak coming in.

Who would you like to see Ciryl Gane face next?

Expected to make another Octagon walk later this year, former UFC welterweight title challenger, Nick Diaz has detailed a series of neck and back injuries which has hampered him in his later career.

Diaz, a one-time interim and undisputed welterweight title challenger under the banner of the UFC, made his long-awaited Octagon comeback in September 2021 against former undisputed champion, Robbie Lawler in a rematch.

Returning at the middleweight limit, Diaz, the elder brother of former UFC lightweight title challenger, Nate Diaz, suffered a third round TKO loss to Lawler courtesy of retirement.

In the time since, Diaz, who has since rejoined with long-time head coach, Cesar Gracie, has sights fixed on making a return to the UFC. And has welcomed the opportunity to share the Octagon with former undisputed middleweight kingpin, Israel Adesanya this year.

Nick Diaz details his current injury struggles ahead of a UFC comeback

Yet to be officially booked for a return to the UFC, Diaz revealed both neck and back injuries that he is still dealing with during a YouTube video with a chiropractor

“I have a little bit of – a few neck issues,” Nick Diaz said. “My L5 and my S1. Lower back stuff. I’m just not as agile as I was. Just lack of training, I think – I used to just jump back into sparring, five five-minute rounds. Teach class and train all day. I still do that, but I gotta map it out and put miles on road. I need to do some strengthening work. Leg strength and lower back stuff, just to pull all that stuff together.”

“Most of these injuries that i have, they’re not from fighting,” Nick Diaz explained. “I fell off a bike, and I got in a few street fights. And I ended up all f*cked up.”

Without a victory since October 2011, Diaz’s most recent professional win came in the form of a unanimous decision win over former two-weight champion, B.J. Penn.

Chael Sonnen names Nick Diaz as potential Luke Rockhold opponent on return

Former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen believes that there are still matchups out there for fighters who don’t fit the typical UFC career path anymore.

It is the natural order of MMA that we almost always see those once atop the sport, fall short against father time. Once seemingly unstoppable forces such as a prime Luke Rockhold lose their step, chins give way and the accumulative punishment of a lifetime of combat catches up to them.

Still, Chael Sonnen believes that there is still a spot at the table for those on the tail end of their careers. While UFC fights are typically reserved for the best of the best and those young and hungry looking to join them, Sonnen believes there are matchups for Rockhold should he choose to return.

He’s [Luke Rockhold] got his fight gear on,” Chael Sonnen said on his YouTube. “He’s got his gloves on and he says it could be an interesting 2023.”

“The UFC is extremely difficult to compete in if you are not a champion or a contender. If you prove through opportunities, hard matchups, competitions that you’re not one of the two, it’s just a hard place to be at. I don’t think that’s true for Luke, I think they give him a match, I think he’s special, I think he’s different. I think that last performance alone, just out of respect gets him another match, but who would it be against?”

Sonnen would continue, naming fan favorite and former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz as a viable option.

I think Nick Diaz is in a similar situation,” said Sonnen. “The fans love him, the fans want him, his inactivity always puts that question mark there.”

“It’s an interesting match, you’ve got two guys from California, I don’t know how they haven’t crossed paths yet. Nick seems to make it clear that he’s going to 185.”

Is Chael Sonnen right? Should Luke Rockhold and Nick Diaz fight?
