Rodtang ONE Fight Night 6

‘The Iron Man’ Rodtang Jitmuangnon stepped away from his typical sport, of Muay Thai, and fought in a Kickboxing battle last night at ONE Fight Night 6. The Thai-born athlete was able to batter ‘The Eagle of Yi’ Jiduo Yibu to earn a unanimous decision win.

Rodtang wants ONE gold in Kickboxing

At ONE Fight Night 6, the ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Ilias Ennahachi was originally booked to defend his throne against Thailand’s Superlek and Rodtang was to fight Daniel Puertas. Due to weight issues, Ennahachi dropped out of the fight and vacated his world title. Puertas was then moved to fight Superlek for the vacant kickboxing title, and ‘The Iron Man’ was then to fight China’s Jiduo Yibu. Both ‘The Iron Man’ and Superlek won their bouts.

‘The Iron Man’ Rodtang has made his intentions clear, he wants a world title in kickboxing and then MMA. Superlek and ‘The Iron Man’ nearly fought last year during the ONE Muay Thai Grand Prix. Due to weight issues, ‘The Iron Man’ was unable to compete in the tournament. Superlek vs Rodtang is a fight combat sports fans have been demanding. Both are phenoms in Muay Thai, and the two may fight for a kickboxing world title later this year.

‘The Iron Man’ is only 25-year-old has earned a whopping 270 career victories and holds the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world title. The Thai athlete began his Muay Thai career when he was only 7 years old as a way to support his family. ‘The Kicking Machine’ Superlek Kiatmoo9, the ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion, began his professional career at the age of 8 and has since earned a record of 131-29.

Superlek and Rodtang are on a collision course. The two Thai strikers will likely fight for the Kickboxing throne in 2023.

Stamp Fairtex ONE Fight Night 6

ONE Championship superstar Stamp Fairtex has had a whirlwind of a week leading up to her fight at ONE Fight Night 6. She was originally booked against former GLORY World Champion Anissa Meksen, but reportedly due to an illness the French-Algerian fighter did not show up for the press conference or weigh-ins.

‘Supergirl’ Anna Jaroonsak was set to face Ekaterina Vandaryeva, but the Belarusian ‘Barbie’ just slightly missed weight. Due to these sudden events, ONE Championship was able to book Supergirl against Stamp Fairtex in a kickboxing fight at the last minute.

The Thai-born Stamp was able to out-point Supergirl in a closely fought match. Supergirl is a Muay Thai based fighter with a size and weight advantage over her Thai-born opponent. See below for highlights:

Stamp Fairtex earns a split decision win at ONE Fight Night 6

Stamp Fairtex is a threat in three sports. Before she was even 23 years old, she captured world titles in ONE Championship in both Kickboxing and Muay Thai. As she switched her focus to MMA, she was able to earn a Grand Prix world title by way of submission in the finals. This would earn her the top contender position against atomweight queen Angela Lee. Despite the back-and-forth fight, Stamp was stopped via submission in her world title attempt.

Earning ONE gold in MMA, Kickboxing, and Muay Thai is still very much in the plans for Stamp. While in an interview with Tim Wheaton, she mapped out her future plans. She said:

“In five years I think I’d still be around. Hopefully, I’ll be having three of my titles, and also I’ll be defending the titles. And also in 10 years, I would be 35 so two ways – either I’ll be a trainer in another country, or I’ll just do some gardening and not really be into martial arts.”

Top-ranked pound-for-pound kickboxer Superbon Singha Mawynn was knocked out by Chingiz Allazov in the ONE Fight Night 6 main event just last night. ‘Chinga’ is the new ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion, earning the throne in Bangkok, Thailand.

Chingiz Allazov stops Superbon in Thailand

The Thai-born former world champion Superbon was making a case for himself to be ranked among all-time greats in Kickboxing history. The 32-year-old striker was stopped by the dangerous Azerbaijani-Belarusian athlete Chingiz Allazov.

Allazov utilizes an aggressive, forward style. He mixes flurries of punches with head kicks. During their battle for the kickboxing throne, Superbon was unable to stop the relentless pressure from his opponent. In the second round, Allazov earned three thunderous knockdowns using his powerful overhand right to capture the crown and silence the stunned audience. ONE Fight Night 6 was hosted in the former champions home nation of Thailand.

The Azerbaijani-Belarusian fighter is a K-1 World Grand Prix Champion, from 2017, and last year he earned the ONE Featherweight Grand Prix World Title. On his record, he has vanquished notable fighters such as Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong, a former Glory Champion, Jo Nattawut, Samy Sana, and Yasuhiro Kido, among others. To capture the ONE Featherweight World Title he has now added Superbon via KO to his record.

With his knockout win to earn the world title, Allazov was also awarded with a $50,000 performance bonus from ONE Championship for his work in the circle.

Alistair Overeem ONE Championship

Alistair Overeem is rumored to be in talks with ONE Championship. ONE has recently announced a 16-man Muay Thai Openweight Grand Prix with a $1 Million prize. Apparently, the Dutch-born Overeem is interested.

After splitting with the UFC, ‘The Dutch Demolition Man’ defeated his long-time rival Badr Hari in GLORY Kickboxing in late 2022. Overeem was then looking at facing the GLORY Heavyweight Champion Rico Verhoeven but the Dutch athlete tested positive for a banned substance.

According to ONE’s CEO Chatri Sityodtong, the Openweight Grand Prix will feature fighters such as Rodtang (135 lbs) and Superbon (155 lbs). ONE’s promotional poster for the tournament already features a picture of Overeem (240 lbs). The poster also has the kickboxing light heavyweight world champion Roman Kryklia (230 lbs) and the Muay Thai strawweight world champion Joseph Lasiri (125 lbs).

The rumor of Alistair Overeem looking to compete in the Muay Thai Openweight Grand Prix was first reported by Nicolas Atkin of SCMP MMA.

What’s left for Alistair Overeem?

Alistair Overeem has had a storied career in combat sports. Since making his professional debut in 1999, he has competed in PRIDE FC, the UFC, K-1 Kickboxing, DREAM, Strikeforce, and GLORY Kickboxing, among others. After nearly 80 bouts between kickboxing and MMA, what’s left for ‘The Dutch Demolition Man’?

Last year, Overeem sat down with Tim Wheaton of Beyond Kickboxing to map out his future. The 42-year-old fighter explained that he would like one last bout to say goodbye to MMA. He said:

“There might be another opportunity to do another MMA fight. Because MMA requires a good farewell as well … I do have a particular scenario in mind, it would be a big stadium, like fifty-thousand people. So that’ll narrow it down for you; what stadium and where. It’ll be something along those lines that I’ve envisioned for myself.”

Between K-1 and PRIDE, Alistair Overeem fought in Japan’s Saitama Super Arena in a dozen bouts, and it sounds like he is looking for one more.

ONE Championship prospect Andrea Lee has tragically passed away

Victoria Lee, the younger sister of ONE atomweight champion Angela Lee and ONE two-division champion (lightweight & welterweight) Christian Lee, was just 18 years old at the time of her passing on December 26, 2022.

Her cause of death has not yet been made public, though the family is planning a celebration of her life on January 22, 2023.

Victoria’s 26 year old sister Angela made the following post on her Instagram regarding her passing:

“On December 26, 2022 our family experienced something no family should ever have to go through…

“It is incredibly difficult to say this … Our Victoria passed away. She has gone too soon and our family has been completely devastated since then.

“We miss her. More than anything in this world. Our family will never be the same. Life will never be the same.

“Victoria was the most beautiful soul who ever lived. She was the best little sister in the world. The best daughter, the best granddaughter and the best auntie.

“We miss you so much sis. More than you could ever realise. We’re all broken. Because a piece of you was in each of us and when you left, those pieces were ripped out of us.

“We will never be the same.

“Each and every little thing makes me think of you. From the sun rays, to the sunset. You taught us to see the beauty in the simple things. You were our bright light. Our sunshine. And that will never change. You were perfect in every way. The best person I knew. The most beautiful girl, inside and out.

“We love you Victoria. I love you Sprout. Until the end of time.

“Please give our family grace and respect during this most difficult time. And please, check on your loved ones. Keep checking on them. Give them hugs and tell them how much they mean to you. You just never know.”

Victoria Lee was 3-0 as a professional mixed martial artist, picking up two submission victories (rear naked choke, triangle armbar) and one knockout (TKO – punches), all three fights of which happened in 2021. She was also a two-time Pankration junior world champion, as well as an IMMAF junior state champion, IMMAF junior world champion, and she was already a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The whole Lee family is made up of a bunch of prodigies, and we were nearly certain we were going to get a third world champion in the family out of Angela. She was far too young and lived far too short of a life, it’s really too bad how tragic things can be sometimes.

Sharing his thoughts on the fighting ability of former kickboxing champion, Andrew Tate – former UFC flyweight champion turned ONE Championship flyweight titleholder, Demetrious Johnson has credited the social commenter’s striking ability, but admitted there are notable flaws to his overall game.

Johnson, a former UFC flyweight champion, who holds the record for most consecutive successful title defenses in the history of the organization with a staggering eleven separate knockbacks, has since landed himself the flyweight championship under the ONE Championship banner.

Rematching Adriano Moraes after suffering the first knockout loss of his professional career, Kentucky native, Demetrious Johnson turned in a Knockout of the Year contender back in August with a knee knockout win of his own against the Brazilian. Johnson and Moraes are slated to meet in a trilogy rubber match at ONE Championship’s debut in the United States on May 5. in Colorado. 

Demetrious Johnson breaks down the striking ability of Andrew Tate

Critiquing the ability of the aforenoted, Tate, who previously enjoyed a career as a professional career, Johnson admitted that while the controversial social media influencer is a legitimate kickboxer, some of his flaws are quite noticeable.

“(Andrew Tate has) awesome distance, getting nice and low, got that boxing stance – (Andrew) Tate’s legit when it comes to kickboxing,” Demetrious Johnson said in a video posted on his official YouTube channel. “The only thing I’ll say bad about Tate is (he’s) pawing like a bear, like a panda bear.” (Transcribed by Essentially Sports)

Over the course of the previous two weeks, American-born commenter, Tate, has hit the headlines globally after he and his brother, Tristan Tate were arrested at a residence in Romania as part of an investigation into alleged human trafficking, rape, and the organization of a crime group. 

Over the course of last year, Tate, who grew up in Luton, England, was pictured alongside a host of UFC fighters, including welterweight champion, Leon Edwards, and bantamweight titleholder, Aljamain Sterling, as well as surging top-contender, Sean O’Malley.
