Eddie Alvarez is not deserving of a title shot. However, Angela Lee is willing to look past that as far as her brother Christian is concerned.
Christian is the current ONE lightweight champion with Alvarez recently calling him out.
Christian, however, was dismissive of the callouts given Alvarez has only won once in four ONE outings with his last fight being a decision defeat to Rae Yoon Ok.
However, Christian’s sister Angela acknowledges that it’s the biggest fight that can be made — which is why she isn’t opposed to Alvarez getting a title shot next.
“If you look at Eddie’s record on paper since he joined ONE, it’s not too impressive,” Angela said (via MMA Junkie). “Just looking at what fights he’s had in ONE, you’d think he’s undeserving of a title shot, but given that Eddie comes from a history of being previous UFC champion, being previous Bellator champion, and he has a huge following, and a lot of fans want that fight then I think that would be the only reason for Christian to take the fight against Eddie, is that’s the fight the fans want.
“That’s the fight that’s gonna be the biggest draw. So I don’t think that Christian owes Eddie this title fight, I don’t think Eddie’s deserving of the title fight, but just because it’s in such high demand by the fans that I think, yeah sure, why not? Make it happen.”
Even with Alvarez winless in his last two, it’s hard to deny that him against Lee would be one of the biggest fights the Singapore-based promotion can put out.
Demetrious Johnson won’t hate on the likes of Logan Paul and Jake Paul who have recently been making noise and a lot of money by crossing over into the combat sports world. Logan Paul recently went eight rounds with Floyd Mayweather and reportedly made an eye-watering $20 million despite being a novice boxer. Jake Paul […]
Demetrious Johnson won’t hate on the likes of Logan Paul and Jake Paul who have recently been making noise and a lot of money by crossing over into the combat sports world.
Jake Paul is three fights into his perfect professional career. The 24-year-old holds highlight-reel KO wins over former NBA player, Nate Robinson and two-time MMA champion, Ben Askren. Paul is set for his fourth professional fight on August 28, he’ll take on former UFC champion, Tyron Woodley, live on Showtime pay-per-view.
The influx of internet celebrities to the combat sports world hasn’t sat well with a lot of fans and fighters. Johnson insists he’s not one of the detractors as the Paul Brothers are training harder than some professional athletes.
“When you have unlimited money, when you have millions of dollars and you don’t have to do a 9-5 job, you have the best access to the trainers, you have the best access to nutrition, you train for eight weeks for somebody, you are gonna become the product of something,” Johnson said in an interview courtesy of ONE Championship. “So people think that Jake Paul, Logan Paul, they just got off the couch playing video games, that’s not the f*cking case. These guys are training like full-time athletes. These guys train better than some of the professional athletes that have been in the game for five or 10 years.”
“I support the YouTubers, the TikTokers and the thing is, at the end of the day it’s about making money,” Johnson added “Those guys have such a big following and a lot of the athletes complain how Jake Paul, Logan Paul, those guys are making million-dollar paydays and us athletes have been in this sport for years and will never see a payday like that. The reality is your brand and your likeness or your following is what sells, and I’ve learned that from when I was in a North-America-based promotion and it’s proven to this day.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)
Do you agree with Demetrious Johnson? Should we respect Logan Paul & Jake Paul as long as they train properly for their fights?
ONE Championship’s heavyweight titleholder, Arjan Bhullar is the open to the idea of moving down in weight for a fight with the current light-heavyweight and middleweight champion, Reinier De Ridder. De Ridder recently expressed his desire to move up to heavyweight and dethrone Bhullar to become a three-weight world champion. The first fighter of Indian […]
ONE Championship’s heavyweight titleholder, Arjan Bhullar is the open to the idea of moving down in weight for a fight with the current light-heavyweight and middleweight champion, Reinier De Ridder.
The first fighter of Indian descent to ever win an MMA world title has since responded to the notion of a fight with De Ridder during an interview with LowKickMMA’s Keelin McNamara.
“First of all, I call the shots on that on the side. He knows that the company knows that.” Bhullar said. “So, you know, he’s been mentioning my name to try to get some of that shine for sure and I don’t like giving it to people cause I never did that on my way up, so earn your way. Don’t start to mention my name in interviews and all that. You’re not gonna get a crack at me that way. I call the shots and maybe we do it at light heavyweight. Why would I give him a chance to come up?
“I’m the A-side. If that’s (a move to light-heavyweight) what we decide to do, we will do that. If we decide to do heavyweight, we will do that. It’s whatever we want, but getting another belt at a different weight to something that interests me. That intrigues me. It builds on my legacy, rather than just defending my belt.”
Despite being open to the fight Bhullar thinks De Ridder needs to make some title defences before it can actually happen.
“He’s got to defend. That’s the main thing .” Bhullar said. “Again, you want to be special? You want to stand out for me? Make a name for yourself, defend your titles and get some momentum and we’ll make it work.”
Do you want to see Arjan Bhullar vs. Reinier De Ridder at light-heavyweight?

Demetrious Johnson was impressed with Brandon Moreno who picked up the flyweight title by submitting Deiveson Figueiredo inside three rounds at UFC 263.
Moreno and Figueiredo put on an exciting, Fight of the Year candidate when they squared off at UFC 256 in December. The pair threw down for five rounds at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas before the judges scored the fight a majority draw and Figueiredo retained his 125lb strap.
Naturally, a rematch was quickly booked and Moreno got his second shot at UFC gold on June 12. ‘The Assassin Baby’ left no doubt the second time around as he dominated Figueiredo from the first bell before tapping him out in round three to become the first Mexican-born fighter to ever win a UFC belt.
“I thought Brandon looked phenomenal,” Johnson said. “He looked great, fast and speedy on his toes. Combinations were great and his transitions were phenomenal against Deiveson Figueiredo too.”
This is high praise coming from a man who is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters of all time, having been the longtime flyweight champion in the UFC and only losing once — a close split decision to Henry Cejudo in 2018 — during his last 17 outings with the promotion.
Since finding a new MMA home with ONE Championship, Johnson has yet to become a champion once again. ‘Mighty Mouse’ looked impressive through his first three fights with the Asian-based MMA promotion, winning the flyweight Grand Prix. However, Johnson fell short when he faced off against the champion, Adriano Moraes, who caught the MMA legend with a flush knee to become the first man to ever knock out Johnson.
The 34-year-old tells us he’s content to work his way back up into title contention after his shock defeat to Moraes.
“I’m planning on making my way back up to the belt right now, not an immediate rematch,” Johnson said. “I’m focusing on the path in front of me right now. That’s what I’m looking forward to and I’m planning on fighting sometime in the Fall or Wintertime I believe.”
Do you agree with Demetrious Johnson? Did Brandon Moreno look “phenomenal” at UFC 263?

Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson hasn’t lost very often during his illustrious MMA career, with a 30-4 record that includes his long reign as the UFC flyweight champion and ESPN’s Fighter of The Year in 2017.
But after falling to Adriano Moraes for the ONE flyweight championship earlier this year, many questioned whether or not Johnson could compete against the best of the best after he alluded to a potential move to kickboxing.
Johnson spoke with LowKickMMA in an exclusive interview to clear the air on his earlier comments that he may explore his options including some Kickboxing fights, and what’s next for his MMA career.
After many speculated on what might be next for 34-year-old Johnson following his previously hinted transition from MMA to Kickboxing. During his post-fight press conference at ONE on TNT 1, alluded to trying out a few kickboxing matches before his career ends.
“I think, at the end of the day, the reason that I came to ONE Championship is I have options,” Johnson said in a post-fight scrum. “I feel if I want to do a kickboxing match, I can do that. Obviously, yes, I can go back into mixed martial arts, work my way back up to a title shot.”
But Johnson has changed his tune on the matter in recent days and went as far as vehemently denying a move from MMA anytime soon after ONE Muay Thai champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon called him out just weeks ago for a kickboxing match.
“No, that’s not the plan right now,” Johnson said when asked by LowKickMMA about a possible switch to kickboxing. “That was something I said when I was in quarantine for 10 days in Singapore. Rodtang is one of the best Muay Thai fighters on the planet. When I say kickboxing, I think when I say stuff like that, people take it to the extreme.”
“I couldn’t care less about being a Kickboxing world champion. So right now I’m just focusing on my next mixed martial arts fight.”
Johnson also weighed in on the new UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno’s performance against Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 263. He said he was “very impressed” with Moreno’s speed and combinations on the feet as well as his ground game that ended up finishing the fight.
After suffering the first knockout loss of his career, Johnson is ready to make his way back to the ONE Championship title discussion with a win over another top contender. While he isn’t ruling out an immediate rematch against Moraes, he’s focusing on what he can control and another title run late in his career.
“I’m planning on making my way back up to the belt right now, not an immediate rematch,” Johnson said. “I’m focusing on the path in front of me right now. That’s what I’m looking forward to.”
Do you think Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson can still perform at a high level against the best fighters in the world?

If you are a fan of high-level striking and you missed Tawanchai PK. Saenchai Muaythaigym’s ONE Super Series debut, do yourself a favor and check out the highlights from the 22-year-old’s bout with Ireland’s Sean Clancy.
The pair faced off at ONE: Dangal, which aired over the weekend, and the Thai bantamweight immediately laid down a marker for the rest of the division, with a third-round stoppage of Clancy.
There had been a lot of pre-fight hype surrounding Tawanchai; he is seen by many as one of the top pound-for-pound Muay Thai fighters in the world. In 2018 he captured both the Sports Authority of Thailand Fighter of the Year and Lumpinee Stadium Fighter of the Year awards, and he brought with him an overall record of 124-30-2.
The ONE debutant wasted little time establishing his dominance over Clancy, and the manner of his victory already has fans wondering how he will go against the divisions reigning champion Nong-O Gaiyanghadao. Nong-O has not lost since stepping fought inside the ONE Circle and is currently on a seven-fight winning streak.
A match-up between Tawanchai and Nong-O would be a mouth-watering prospect and hopefully one that is not too far off from taking place. For now, check out the best moments from Tawanchai’s ONE debut.
