Patchy Mix

Bellator second-ranked contender at bantamweight Patchy Mix believes Magomed Magomedov is the “toughest challenge” of the Bellator Bantamweight World Grand Prix.

Patchy Mix is set to face off against Kyoji Horiguchi this April 23 at Bellator 279. It’ll be the first-round bout of the one million dollar tournament. If Mix dispatches Horiguchi in the fight, he will proceed to the semi-finals of the competition where he could very likely face Magomed Magomedov should the Dagestani fighter overcome his own opponent. Magomedov will be facing the winner of Enrique Barzola vs Nikita Mikhailov to qualify for the semi-finals against Mix on June 24.

Ahead of his bout with Kyoji Horiguchi, Patchy Mix spoke to LowKick MMA about possibly facing Magomed Magomedov in the tournament ahead.

“I think he’s probably the toughest challenge of the tournament even though he lost to Raufeon, I think,” said Magomedov.”If he fought him in a five-round fight, I think Magomedov would’ve won that fight. I think he’s tough. We’re managed by the same guy. I got mad love for Magomed.

“It’ll be unfortunate but that’ll be a hard fight for both of us. I’m just looking at it one fight at a time right now, and of course, I want a million dollars but it’ll be a tough fight. One fight at a time and then probably see each other in the semis.”

Patchy Mix reveals his favorite win

As one of the most exciting grapplers in the sport, Patchy Mix has delivered some impressive submission wins over the years including his most recent outing against James Gallagher. “No Love” clocked in notable submissions over Morales via an arm-triangle choke, Chapman with a kneebar, and a rear-naked choke against Bandejas. With 11 submission wins in 15 fights, Mix revealed that his win over Bandejas is his most memorable one.

Mix will look to extend his win streak to three with another win. He predicts a finish in the first round via a rear-naked choke against Horiguchi. Ahead of the bout, the 28-year-old was practicing his grappling with Cody Garbrandt and feels like he’s at the lightest weight he’s been in ahead of Bellator 279.

There’s also a chance Mix gets to avenge his loss against Juan Archuleta in the tournament given both athletes advance to the finals.

LowKick MMA will be bringing you Bellator 270: Queally vs. Pitbull 2 results throughout the night (Sat. 30th. October 2021) live from the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.

Taking main event status on the promotion’s return to Dublin — the vacant lightweight title is up for grabs between Peter ‘The Showstopper’ Queally and division veteran, Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire — as the pair rematch following a May matchup earlier this year.

Initially matching up at Bellator 258, Waterford native, Queally managed to score an eventual second round TKO victory due to a doctor’s stoppage at the end of the frame, after he opened up a significant laceration on the hairline of Pitbull via a series of slashing elbows from the bottom.

The win came as Queally’s second straight under the promotion’s banner following an impressive rallying effort against common-foe, Ryan Scope back at the 3Arena in September of 2019.

For Brazilian veteran, Pitbull, the loss came as his second consecutively following a unanimous decision loss to Tofiq Musayev under the Rizin FF banner back in December 2019.

In the night’s co-headliner, a pivotal bantamweight matchup between streaking grappling standout, James ‘The Strabanimal’ Gallagher and the #3 ranked one-time title challenger, Patchy ‘No Love’ Mix.

Unbeaten in his last four on the bounce, Strabane native, Gallagher most recently headlined Bellator Euro Series 9 in October of last year in Milan, Italy — submitting Cal Ellenor with a first round rear-naked choke.

For New York native, Mix, the one-time bantamweight title challenger returned from his first career loss in May — stopping short-notice replacement, Albert Morales with a third round arm-triangle.

Bellator 258 is quickly turning into one of the promotions most stacked cards of 2021.

With Juan Archuleta and Sergio Pettis already headlining the event, Irish star James Gallagher has now been added to the undercard. His opponent is none other than former title challenger, Patchy Mix.

The fight has been confirmed by Bellator, as well as both fighters, following its initial report coming by way of MMA DNA

The two bantamweights have gone back and forth on social media, Mix taking shots at Gallagher by posting the following:

“What a knockout by Pico! I see me doing the same to @StrabanimalMMA (Gallagher) very soon.”

Gallagher was quick to respond by stating:

“You will dive on a takedown in the first exchange. You ain’t exactly knocking no one out! Try it and see.”

Mix holds a 13-1 record, and is currently coming off a loss to the Bellator 135lb champion Juan Archuleta. Alternatively, Gallagher is on an impressive 4 fight win streak. The ‘Strabanimal’ is coming off consecutive victories over Steven Graham, Jerimiah Labiano, Roman Salazar and most recently Cal Ellenor. He currently holds an 11-1 record.

A win for either fighter could well catupult them into title contention. The two 135er’s face off at Bellator 258, on May 7th.
