Paul Craig and Johnny Walker will face off at the UFC’s return to Brazil on January 21st.

Paul Craig (16-5) is 4-1 in his last 5, having dropped his most recent fight to Volkan Oezdemir, but despite that, he won’t be taking a step back in competition as he’s set to take on the ever dangerous and unorthodox, Johnny Walker (19-7) at UFC 283.

Paul Craig and Johnny Walker are ready to put on a show at Rio

Walker is 2-3 in his last 5 fights, but he won his last one via a rear naked choke against Ion Cu?elaba. He will look to keep the momentum going and build a winning streak and perhaps slowly claw his way back toward a title shot as he once had in the past.

Paul Craig will put his own unorthodox technique on the line against Walker. ‘The Bearjew’ is known for having one of the best and most unique ground games in the light heavyweight division. So, in some ways, this will be a classic striker vs grappler contest, but the big difference being that both of them are extremely unconventional in the way they approach the fight game.

Although in recent bouts, Walker has dialed back some of his wild striking and become more technical under the tutelage of John Kavanagh. However, some believe it’s this that has caused some lackluster performances by Walker. If there is any time, we might see the wild side come out, it might be in front of his home country fans as Walker will represent the Brazilians in the fight.

While Paul Craig will keep his own distinct style going as he doesn’t know how else to fight. So, if we see Craig in trouble, it might be just part of the plan, as Craig can reverse any bad situation into a submission in just a flash.

So, at UFC 283, we’ll definitely be seeing two of the most eccentric fighters and finishers in the game, which is bound to make this a good fight.

UFC light-heavyweight Johnny Walker names Paul Craig as a potential opponent for the upcoming Rio card.

Johnny Walker has had an up and down UFC tenure, but following a win over tough veteran Ion Cutelaba at UFC 279, the 30-year-old now finds himself in a good position to begin to climb the rankings.

When he first entered the UFC, Walker quickly gained hype behind him following his first three performances for the promotion which all ended in a spectacular knockout. There were even rumblings that he could be the man to finally dethrone Jon Jones.

However, after losses against the likes of Corey Anderson, Nikita Krylov and most recently Jamahal Hill, Walker’s hype has somewhat died down, but the Brazilian seems as motivated as ever, having made the move to Ireland to train John Kavanagh at SBG.

In a recent interview with LowKickMMA, Johnny Walker revealed he is hoping to take on submission specialist Paul Craig next, ideally on the upcoming Rio card.

If I can get to UFC Rio in January, could be good to fight the guy from Scotland, Paul Craig,” Walker said to LowKickMMA.

He’s close in ranks, he’s not big step. he’s not like top five so going to be good for keep going, moving forward. One more win, then I pick somebody top five, top three, then championship.”

Johnny Walker vs Paul Craig

Johnny Walker’s idea of facing Craig next makes good sense for a few reasons. Craig has shown vulnerability on the feet before, especially to those who carry power. Considering Walker’s resume, he will likely be confident he has all the tools to pick up a win over the ‘Bearjew.’ However, any man who takes the Scot likely is in for a rude awakening, likely resulting in them being caught in one of Craig’s signature submissions.

Paul is also known to the Brazilian crowd, having taken on one of the country’s legends in Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, who he faced off against in Sau Paulo.

The ‘Bearjew’ has already responded to Walker’s callout:

Who would you take, Johnny Walker or Paul Craig?

Handing Paul Craig a unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) loss in enemy territory, Switzerland native and one-time light heavyweight title challenger, Volkan Oezdemir upset the apple cart at the O2 Arena at UFC London — scoring a well-deserved victory.

Oezdemir, who previously competed for undisputed light heavyweight gold, survived multiple leg lock and heel hook attempts from Scottish contender, Craig throughout their three round limit matchup to open the main card of UFC London.

Opening a cut on the right side of Craig’s head as a result of numerous slashing elbows, Oezdemir continued to evade numerous amrbar and triangle setups from a submission-chasing Craig — scoring a unanimous judging win.
