12 years ago, MMA fighter Kane Mousah spent four years in prison but has refused to let it ruin his career.
As a young MMA fighter, Mousah feared his career was over when he got sent away. Every day, his prison sentence reminds him of where he came from.
It happened early in his career and was the consequence of his involvement in a gang. Reportedly, Mousah and others were searched and found guilty of possessing a handgun, bullets, and a silencer.
At the time, Mousah was only 23 years of age—young and with a promising career in MMA. Even the judge described the sentencing as a “tragedy” for the rising star.
He was given a 9-year sentence but served only four. The prison experience truly turned his life around.
“Prison deterred me from the life that I used to live – I think it needed to happen for me. I did my time and I used it to change my perspective on life, to make sure I’d come out as a better person. Since I’ve come out of prison, all I’ve tried to do is help other people out along the way. I think I do that,” Mousah told Manchester Evening News.
“The Danger’s” return was incredible, winning by TKO inside round 1. Then, in 2014, he continued to win three back-to-back fights before the second round. He has found success across many MMA platforms before winning two bouts at Bellator.
Now, at 35, Mousah is training hard with one of the UFC’s most exciting prospects, Khamzat Chimaev for his 15th fight since his return to the cage in 2013.
Kane will fight Irishman Peter Queally in Ireland at Bellator 275 on February 25.
Both Peter and Kane return to the cage after suffering losses in their last bouts. Mousah is the underdog, as the fight will take place in Queally’s home country.
Regardless of the home advantage for Queally, Mousah is excited for the match and expects to win.

On February 25, Queally will fight Kane Mousah on the main card at Bellator 275. The #6-ranked Bellator lightweight trains alongside UFC‘s Conor McGregor at Straight Blast Gym in Dublin, Ireland.
In between training for bouts, Queally coaches MMA at SBG. On January 22, he saw a massive turnout with 30 women present at his first free workshop.
The free class was in response to the killing of Ashling Murphy, another victim of gender-based violence. Her body was found in Tullamore on January 12.
Since the training session, Queally wants more women to get into MMA gyms. It is an empowering sport that teaches discipline along with the fundamentals to break your opponent.
Outside of self-defense, women can build their confidence and become healthier through MMA.
“To be honest, these self-defence classes are good, but what a girl should do really is just join a gym, and start learning how to defend herself. And not only will she be able to defend herself, in the rare, rare case that something happens, but also she’ll develop confidence, become physically fit and make friends,” Queally explained toDublin Live.
Not to mention, a gym community is a safe place to practice and broaden social skills. Many people are shy and timid when starting at a new gym, or anywhere, but as their skills develop so does their self-esteem.
“I think women would benefit from this as well. Taking out the danger in society of being attacked, just having a bit more confidence is always a good thing. And the social aspect of it is great as well when you’re just making new friends, and all this different stuff,” Queally continued.
2022 is already proving to be a good year for women’s growth in MMA. Canada began its very first all-women MMA league, the PAWFC, which saw its first live event on January 15. And, last November, MMA legend Cris Cyborg helped get the ball rolling on Africa’s first MMA Women’s Commission.
Peter Queally’s workshop success puts more spotlight on introducing women to the sport.
What are your thoughts on the increasing growth of women in mixed martial arts?

Bellator 270 featured the main event for the vacant lightweight title between Peter Queally and Patricky Freire in Dublin, Ireland. Let’s see how the fight plays out.
Round 1 begins with Queally and Freire exchanging heavy strikes on the feet, but Freire seems to land the more devastating blows to the body. Queally is beginning the fight by finding his range and hitting Freire with stiff low calf kicks. Towards the end of the first round, Queally starts to force Freire against the cage and starts to walk him down. He’s the more active striker through one.
Round 2 continues to try to back Freire up as the round begins, and Queally lands some stiff leg kicks to Freire’s mid-section. Queally appears to hit Freire with an accidental eye poke that briefly stops the action. The referee brings the doctor in to examine Freire’s eye, he gets some eye drops and the fight continues. Queally’s low leg kicks are really starting to find a home. Freire responds with a barrage of strikes and he catches Queally with a massive right hand that drops him, Queally covers up and is briefly able to get back up to his feet. But, Queally is unable to answer the fight is stopped.
Patricky earns the vacant lightweight title after his brother, Patricio vacated it just a few months ago. It is the first title for Patricky in his legendary MMA career.
The fight between Freire and Queally was a rematch of their controversial fight at Bellator 258. After a brief stint fighting in the Rizin world grand prix, Freire returned to Bellator and earns the lightweight title after losing back-to-back bouts. In their first fight, Queally earned the win via a doctor’s stoppage over Freire.
Patricio and Patricky become the first pair of brothers to hold titles in the same division in Bellator history. There is a new Bellator lightweight champion.

Taking main event status on the promotion’s return to Dublin — the vacant lightweight title is up for grabs between Peter ‘The Showstopper’ Queally and division veteran, Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire — as the pair rematch following a May matchup earlier this year.
Initially matching up at Bellator 258, Waterford native, Queally managed to score an eventual second round TKO victory due to a doctor’s stoppage at the end of the frame, after he opened up a significant laceration on the hairline of Pitbull via a series of slashing elbows from the bottom.
The win came as Queally’s second straight under the promotion’s banner following an impressive rallying effort against common-foe, Ryan Scope back at the 3Arena in September of 2019.
For Brazilian veteran, Pitbull, the loss came as his second consecutively following a unanimous decision loss to Tofiq Musayev under the Rizin FF banner back in December 2019.
In the night’s co-headliner, a pivotal bantamweight matchup between streaking grappling standout, James ‘The Strabanimal’ Gallagher and the #3 ranked one-time title challenger, Patchy ‘No Love’ Mix.
Unbeaten in his last four on the bounce, Strabane native, Gallagher most recently headlined Bellator Euro Series 9 in October of last year in Milan, Italy — submitting Cal Ellenor with a first round rear-naked choke.
For New York native, Mix, the one-time bantamweight title challenger returned from his first career loss in May — stopping short-notice replacement, Albert Morales with a third round arm-triangle.
