Former UFC heavyweight champ Tim Sylvia showed the world that he is serious about staying at fighting at 265-pounds. In the main event of ProElite: Big Guns, Sylvia earned a unanimous decision against Andreas Kraniotakes.

Check out the video after the jump where ‘The Maineiac’ talks about his disappointment with the win after going the distance instead of finishing his opponent. Sylvia says it isn’t about winning titles anymore, it’s about fighting the best. The former champ would love a rematch with former opponents Frank Mir or ‘Big Nog’ Nogueira, and would love a chance to face Brock Lesnar, Cain Velasquez, or Alistair Overeem.

Press Release – NOVEMBER 5, 2011(MOLINE,IL.) In the main event of the evening, former 5 time world champion Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia out classed a very game Andreas “Big Daddy” Kraniotakes. After an exciting back and forth first round that saw each fighter stagger their opponent, Sylvia imposed a controlling game plan pinning Kraniotakes along the cage fence. Every judge saw the fight 30-27 for the hard hitting Betterdorf native. This win moves Sylvia’s win streak to 2 in a row.

The co-main event brought a extremely memorable ending by the Pitbull, as Andrei Arlovski had a highlight reel knockout of the very experienced Travis “The Ironman” Fulton by headkick at the end of the third round. After a long feeling out period, Arlovski decided to take the fight to the ground where he dominated with smoothering control and advancing his position. The final stanza saw a devastating left kick to the head of Fulton that left him unconscious on the mat at 4:59 of round three. This puts Arloski on a two win streak as well.

Also on the main card 20 year-old Texan Evan Cutts took the fight to Reagan Penn and handed him his first career loss. With great takedowns and superior ground control, Penn had no answer for the relentless Cutts.

The main card was rounded out by the quarter finals of the Heavyweight Grand Prix. The most notable bout of the tournament was an electrifiying knockout victory for Salt Lake City’s own Jake Heun. In the very first round of his bout, Heun put Ed Carpenter to sleep with a headkick followed by some vicious ground and pound.

In the other bouts of the Grand Prix, Ryan Martinez bested tournament favorite Mark Ellis by unanimous decision, Cody Griffin had a come from behind knockout of Justyn Riley in the third round, and Richard “The Black Eagle” Odoms outlasted a game Rodney Housley to advance to the semifinals of the Grand Prix.

A pair of former UFC heavyweight champions were in action on Saturday night in Moline, Illinois, and both of them won. But neither looked particularly impressive in the process.

Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski were both victorious at Saturday night’s ProElite event, yet save for one high kick from Arlovski at the very end of his fight, it was a dreadful affair all around.

Sylvia took a unanimous decision over Andreas Kraniotakes, 30-27 on all three judges’ cards. The fight consisted of a lot of clinching from Sylvia, and the crowd loudly booed at the end of the fight and again as Sylvia got his hand raised in the cage afterward.

Arlovski knocked out Travis Fulton with a shocking head kick with one second remaining in the third round of a fight that had been, up to that point, a dud. HDNet announcer Michael Schiavello accurately described the fight as “a cure for insomnia” heading into the third round, but Arlovski finally got busy in the third, and when the opportunity arose just as the fight was coming to an end, he threw a left high kick and landed his shin perfectly against Fulton’s jawline, knocking him cold.

Reagan Penn, the brother of B.J. Penn, looked even worse than Sylvia and Arlovski in losing a unanimous decision to Evan Cutts, 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27 on the judges’ scorecards. It was the second pro fight of Penn’s MMA career, and it’s hard to see any reason he’ll have a third fight.

And in the first round of ProElite’s eight-man heavyweight tournament, four men advanced to the semifinals:
— Ryan Martinez handed Mark Ellis the first loss of his career, winning by unanimous decision, 30-27 on all three judges’ cards. It was an extremely disappointing showing from Ellis, who entered the cage as a heavy favorite but left with the crowd loudly booing his lackluster performance.
— Jake Heun brutalized Ed Carpenter, knocking him down with a kick-punch combination and then finishing him off with ground and pound for a first-round TKO.
— Cody Griffin was losing the fight after two rounds but came back on fire at the start of the third, battering Justyn Riley, knocking him down and finishing him with punches on the ground to win a third-round TKO.
— Richard Odoms beat Rodney Housley by unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring it 30-27. The fight wasn’t particularly competitive or particularly compelling — which meant it fit in well with this disappointing fight card.
