Antonio-Rogerio-NogueiraAntônio Rogério “Little Nog” Nogueira (19-3) is guaranteeing victory when he steps into the octagon against undefeated Ryan Bader (11-0) at UFC 119 later this month.

In a recent video interview with the Brazilian fighter, Nogueira noted that it would be his experience that would provide him with the edge on Sept. 25 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“I guarantee that I’m going to give (Ryan Bader) his first loss of his career.”

“It would be very gratifying for me to show my fans a great show and knock out Bader the same way I knocked out Luis Cane.”

“Bader is a new guy, he wants to establish himself in the rankings. I’m an older guy. With more experience and my experience will work in my favor, and help me beat Bader in this fight.”

“He definitely has a lot more experience in wrestling that I do. But I think what I’m missing in my wrestling game he is missing in his jiu-jitsu game on the ground. So I think if he takes the fight to the ground he is going to get caught. So it’s probably wiser for him to keep the fight standing up.”

“Little Nog” has won seven straight bouts, including both of his past UFC appearances. He earned a “Fight of the Night” honor in his split decision win over Jason Brilz at UFC 114. In his UFC debut at UFC 106, he earned “Knockout of the Night” after TKOing Luiz Arthur Cane in the first round.

Todd_DuffeeA day after heavyweight Todd Duffee (6-1) was officially released from his Ultimate Fighting Championship Contract, the fighter still isn’t certain of the reason for his dismissal.

Duffee talked to MMAjunkie.com from being released after only one loss.

“I don’t know what happened,” Duffee told MMAjunkie.com from the hotel room in Denver that he is currently calling home. “I first heard from my manager, Alex Davis, about a week ago that I might get cut. I have some friends that fight for other organizations, and they actually told me they had heard a rumor that I was about to be released, too.

“On Tuesday, I got the confirmation email saying I had been cut because I lost my last fight…”

“Emotionally, I’m hurt,” Duffee said. “I’m hurt more than anything because I don’t know why. As a man, you just want to hear why so you can understand…”

“I’ve lost a lot of things this year,” Duffee said. “I went from losing the biggest fight of my life to losing my dad two weeks later to losing my best friend a week after that. I lost a coach, and now I’ve lost my job. At this point, it isn’t the worst thing that could ever happen to me. There are people who would kill to be in my situation, and I just have to stay positive and keep moving forward – tuck your chin and keep moving forward.

“I think the best is yet to come. I think this is a part of it, and we’ll just kind of see what happens. In five or six years we may just look back and laughing about this. That’s my goal…”

“I know the UFC is running a business, and they’re going to do what’s best for them at the end of the day. I’m not going to harbor any hard feelings or anything like that. I’m just going to roll with punches. It’s been a year of a lot of tough losses, but I think you grow from that. It’s been a good run of bad luck. I’m just trying to stay positive and learn from these life experiences.”

Shark Fights Tried Booking Jardine vs. Alexender II

Jardine vs AlexenderShark Fight Promotions had looked at booking a rematch between Keith Jardine (15-8-1) and Houston Alexander (10-6) originally. The fight never materialized and Jardine faces Trevor Prangley in the main event of Shark Fights 13, while Alexander takes on Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou in the co-main event.

Both Jardine and Alexander were guests recently on MMAWeekly.com Radio to talk about the event, and both men talked about the potential rematch.

Jardine was happy to have a chance at avenging the loss to Alexander, but was instead given Prangley.

“The original fight was supposed to be Houston Alexander actually, and that sounded alright to me…

“They didn’t give me a reason for the change, but yeah I was looking forward to it,” Jardine said about the rematch with Alexander. “Let me tell you first, Houston’s a great warrior, he’s a great guy. I’ve said this before, he’s a great humanitarian, he’s done a lot of service around his community. I’ve met the guy a few times he’s a great guy, but that’s a really dark spot on my career.”

Alexander on the other hand, wasn’t interested in a rematch with Jardine.

“They did call me to actually rematch us, and I thought about it and I was just like ‘you know what, I got to know Keith, and he’s more like a friend now. I thought in my mind, no I wouldn’t want to fight him. They would really have to put some heavy money on the table for that to happen. Right now, I consider him a friend. I didn’t even really think twice about wanting to fight him.”

Shark Fights 13 takes place this Saturday on Sept. 11 at the Amarillo Civic Center in Amarillo, Texas. The promotion will debut it’s first pay-per-view event so check your local provider for details. As well, Sherdog.com will stream the entire preliminary card free on their website.

Junior-Dos-Santos_UFC heavyweight fighter Junior dos Santos (12-1) has had an incredible run in the Ultimate Fighting Championship with six straight victories, seven wins in total since his last fight.

“Cigano’s” coach Luis Carlos Dórea thinks that fans have yet to see the best from Dos Santos.

“He’s expecting to see who he’ll confront because they’re two great athletes, the fight would be tough against any of them… I always say: he’s constantly evolving, so you’ll see him a lot better than before, with willingness, personality, a real warrior… He knows that it’ll be worth the title and he’ll do everything in his power in order to win this. After this fight, he’ll be the champion…”

“He deserves all of this because of everything he’s been doing. There’re six wins in six fights, five of them by knockout, four of them on the first round… He’s an athlete who had evolved a lot, started against a great athlete, (Fabrício) Werdum, winning by KO… Cigano only had tough ones on his way, but there’s no easy one on UFC. He’s been tested several times and now I think the time has come. He showed his abilities while standing up, he proved himself to be very strong. Six fights, six critical wins.”

Junior dos Santos defeated Roy Nelson at UFC 117 to earn a number one contender spot for the UFC heavyweight title. The Brazilian will meet the winner between current champ Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez, who meet at UFC 121 on October 23.

Chad GriggsStrikeforce heavyweight fighter Chad Griggs (9-1) is fresh off his victory over Bobby Lashley at last months Strikeforce: Houston event. “The Grave Digger” wants to face a big name for his next fight and is hoping for Brett Rogers or Daniel Cormier.

Griggs spoke to MMAWeekly.com about his win and his next fight.

“I have a pretty strong feeling we’re gonna stay at heavyweight because (Strikeforce) needs some heavyweights,” said Griggs, who had been contemplating a move to 205 pounds prior to the Lashley bout. “They’re trying to build on their heavyweight division there. I’ve been hearing a lot of rumors and I hope that it happens, Brett Rogers’ name has been thrown around a few times.”

“I know he’s actually fighting outside of Strikeforce in Canada next,” added Griggs, “but I’m hoping that one goes through. He’s another huge guy, but it would be the exact opposite of the fight that Bobby was. He’s a stand-up guy and I think it would be a real exciting fight, so I’m hoping that gets put together.

“There was talk of December, I guess they’re gonna be doing a big show. They haven’t given me any solid details or anything. We’re hoping to hear in the next few weeks or so.”

Griggs has won four straight fights, including his only Strikeforce appearance against Lashley. Six of his nine victories have all come in the first round with 5 (T)KO’s and 1 verbal submission win.

Frank Mir Quick Quote – “You Just Can’t Keep Being In Denial”

Frank Mir (13-5) on Brock Lesnar’s advantage in the octagon, size not skill is what made the difference.

frank MirFrank Mir (13-5) on Brock Lesnar’s advantage in the octagon, size not skill is what made the difference.

“We all have our opinions and pre-conceived notions of how something should work based on past success or through learning from other individuals. And then when you walk into it, if you fail, you have to be intelligent enough to sit there and say ‘why did I fail?’ I think that any time you sit there and stick to your guns, going ‘well, on that night, this is what happened and it had nothing to do with something else,” that’s silly. I had to acknowledge that Brock’s size gave him an advantage that really nullified a lot of my technique. He didn’t have to have my level of technique, just a moderate amount, and then having good basics, along with his size, led him to be successful. So I have to learn from that and improve. There’s nothing shameful about it, it’s just one of those things where that’s part of being a scientist – you have a hypothesis, a theory, and you go out there and try it out. You stop being a scientist when you just start doing the same things over and over again and just try to find different ways of justifying why it’s not working. You can’t just keep being in denial.”

The former UFC heavyweight champ is set to headline UFC 119 against former PRIDE champ Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovi? on Sept. 25 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
