UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones has taken to Facebook this morning to apologize to family and friends for his actions this past weekend in New York.

Early Saturday morning, Jones was arrested by the police in Binghamton, New York for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence after Jones car had been driven into a telephone pole at 5am. Jones reportedly drove his Bentley into a pole and was arrested on the scene.

Early reports say that Jones suffered “minor injuries” and his manager, Malki Kawa released a statement about the incident asking “fans and media to respect the privacy of Jon and his family during this time.”

Now the Champ has come out to make his first public statement about the accident and the investigation this morning at about 9am EST.

Man I haven’t added anyone new to my Facebook page in like three years and right now I’m so glad that I haven’t. It has literally been sickening to have so many people try to kick me while I’m down. At the same time, I totally understand, I gave them the leeway to. I screwed up, big time. Just needed to say thank you to all you guys for being amazing friends/supporters.

Always having to deal with so many critics, haters and fickle mma fans, I almost forgot how strong of a home base I had (607 and people that knew me before I was a champion fighter). Although the hell that will come with this hasn’t even started yet, I want you guys to know how much better you’ve all made me feel, not only about this situation but about life, everything. It’s good to feel that people are there and care. With that being said, I felt I should apologize to you first.

I’m truly sorry to those of you that I may have embarrassed in any way, to those of you with kids that I may have let down. I will prove to them as well as to myself, that no matter what is happening in life, we can always work our way back and make things even better than before. Reading you guys uplifting comments was a great reminder for me to not give up on who I am or all the hateful people. I’m not gonna allow this situation to outweigh the positive. I love you guys right back and I promise to make things right. PS sorry about the terrible grammar šŸ™‚

Former welterweight contender Josh Koscheck may have been trolling mma fans, or he may have been trying to pick a fight with former UFC champ BJ Penn when he announced on Twitter that he had accepted a fight versus ‘The Prodigy’.

Penn put the matter to rest after by posting his own message on Twitter (@bjpendotcom), saying that he is “not coming back anytime soon!”

@joshkoscheck I know it costs a lot of money to live that lavish lifestyle, big house, fast cars & you need big fights but sorry Iā€™m not coming back anytime soon!

Penn’s comments are certainly aimed at a recent piece on the program “UFC Ultimate Insider” that offered a glimpse at Koscheck’s lavish home-style.

‘The Prodigy’ hasn’t fought since last October when he lost a unanimous decision to Nick Diaz. Penn’s last win was against Matt Hughes at UFC 123 in his return to welterweight after back-to-back championship bout losses to Frankie Edgar.

For the first time in eleven years, UFC president Dana White will not be cageside for a live event.

Instead of being in Fairfax, Virginia for tonight’s UFC on FUEL TV 3 event, White is instead back home as he prepares to undergo surgery on Wednesday in Las Angeles, California.

White explained his absence to fans on Twitter (@DanaWhite), later revealing in a different Tweet that he was having surgery for Meniereā€™s disease.

first fight I will miss in 11 years and it is KILLING me!!! I have to have surgery in LA 2 morrow or trust me I would be

For those unfamiliar with Meniereā€™s disease, it is classified as an inner ear disorder that affects balance and hearing. PubMedHealth notes that surgery is only considered if other treatments fail to resolve the problem. Surgery is done to get rid of the vertigo and depending on the procedure may effect hearing.

Erick Silva Harbors No Hard Feelings, Would Welcome Referee Mario Yamasaki For His Bout At UFC on FX 3

One might expect Brazilian welterweight Erik Silva (13-2, 1NC) to hold some sort of grudge against referee Mario Yamasaki after he disqualified Silva for what he thought was strikes to the back of the head of opponent Carlo Prater at UFC 142. One might expect Brazilian welterweight Erik Silva (13-2, 1NC) to hold some sort of grudge against referee Mario Yamasaki after he disqualified Silva for what he thought was strikes to the back of the head of opponent Carlo Prater at UFC 142.

The instant replay showed that the strikes were legal but the ruling was already made and Silva suffered his first loss in over five years. Silva had Prater down in the opening seconds of the match, and if Yamasaki hadn’t of jumped in, it’s likely that Silva would have had his second straight win in the Octagon.

Silva is currently scheduled to face Charlie Brenneman on June 8, 2012 in Sunrise, Florida as part of the UFC on FX 3 event.

Speaking to Tatame.com, Silva said he’d welcome Yamasaki as his referee for the bout, holding no ill feelings towards him.

How would you feel in case Mario Yamasaki was called to be the referee on your next fight?
Iā€™d really like it if they call him up, even because I believe he didnā€™t mean to hurt me. After that heā€™s been more alert, smart and heā€™s been doing everything he can so it doesnā€™t happen again. If heā€™s the referee heā€™s going to pay much more attention so he doesnā€™t make a mistake again. As an athlete, itā€™s not my job to have any kind of feeling towards a referee like Mario Yamasaki.

Cyrille Diabate vs. Jorgen Kruth Rescheduled For UFC Event This September

Jorgen Kruth

Swedish kickboxer Jƶrgen ‘The Last Viking’ Kruth (5-0) was to have tested his striking against French fighter Cyrille ‘The Snake’ DiabatĆ© (18-8-1) last month at the UFC on FUEL TV 2 event in Stockholm, but Kruth was forced off the card due to a rib injury and was replaced by Tom DeBlass.

Kruth has a new date for his Octagon debut, September 29, 2012 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event, and it will be against DiabatƩ in a light heavyweight matchupl.

‘The Last Viking’ broke the news to Swedish news agency Expressen.SE on Sunday.

“I think it will be a fun match. We have the same background. We were supposed to have met before, but unfortunately I had to drop out. It was a boring fight and he was also disappointed, because he got to fight someone he had not prepared for.”

(loosely translated utilizing Google Translate)

Kruth is 5-0 as a mixed martial artist, and is 71-14-2 as a kickboxer. The Swedish fighter has not competed in MMA since last November when he stopped Yusuke Kawaguchi at a Rumble of the Kings 6 event in Sweden by TKO. All five of Kruth’s wins have been first round stoppages.

DiabatĆ© won his bout with DeBlass by majority decision at the UFC Sweden event, bouncing back from a submission loss to Anthony Perosh at UFC 138 last November. ‘The Snake’ has traded wins for losses since joining the UFC going 3-2. If this pattern stays true, DiabatĆ© is due for another loss.

Most pundits are in agreement that on May 26, 2012 that fans will see UFC heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos defend his title against former champ Frank Mir in the main event of UFC 146.

Many believe that Dos Santos’ striking will be the key factor too him defeating Mir, and that the only hope Mir has of winning is to take the fight to the mat to submit the champ.

Despite Mir defeating JDS’s mentor AntĆ“nio Rodrigo Nogueira last December, another heavyweight on the card, Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva, wants fans and critics to realize that a fight on the mat will not be as one sided as some think.

Speaking to Tatame.com, ‘Bigfoot’ had this to say.

ā€œIā€™d say Ciganoā€™s a brown or black belt at Jiu-Jitsu, absolutely. Heā€™s very good, fast, versatile and doesnā€™t get stuck on the positions, he can move fast and stand-up quickly. Heā€™s on a good moment of his career. Every time heā€™s in Rio he trains much Jiu-Jitsu. Because he knocks many guys out people start thinking heā€™s just good at thatā€.

UFC 146 goes down in just twelve days at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
